  6. So we all know Colors are basically meaningless. I think they're a neat idea to form cleavages between players, but aside from role-play, they don't do much. We've experimented with different options before, with not a lot of great success. This proposal is to define each color in terms of trade. This would be essentially a new mechanic, you can think of it as each color being it's own Trade Deal/Organization, and each nation gets to join one exclusively. How it works in practice is simple, every turn each nation on a given color would get a cash bonus equivalent to the average monetary net income of all nations on that color, divided by the total number of nations on that color. For example, here are current figures: So if you were an Aqua nation, you'd get a free $12,514 (~$150k/day) each turn just by being on the Aqua color. The "justification" is that your nation is doing 'extra' trading with other Aqua nations (behind the scenes) and you're all getting a shared bonus from that free-trade. This creates a trade-off then, between wanting big, producing nations on your color, and having too many small nations that bring the average down. Of course, it's free money for all nations involved, but being a flat bonus it is relatively larger for smaller nations. This is one additional way we can ease the growth of new players. Now, I would add a few stipulations to this "Active Trade Bonus" as I've dubbed it, just to ensure it's not plainly free money. You would have to be an active nation to receive it. By active, I mean either logged in on the current server-day, or have logged in on the day previous. Essentially, it would work like the login bonus does. If you're gone for 2+ days, you'll stop receiving the free bonus money until it comes back. The bonus amount would still be figured by dividing total nations though, not just active nations. If you're in an alliance, you need to be on the same color as your alliance to receive the bonus. Similar to how the current Color Bonus works. I would remove the existing, 3% gross income color bonus. I have looked at rough figures (not exact) but for the average nation, it wouldn't be until ~City 32 that you'd actually be losing money from this change, assuming you're getting $20,000 per turn ($240,000 extra per day.) Beige nations would receive some flat rate, like $20,000 per turn. Gray nations would receive no bonus, $0/turn. You would not receive the Active Trade Bonus if you were blockaded. In sum, this change would: Give Colors some meaning. There might actually be competition again to get people to move colors as you all try to maximize your cash bonuses. (You can always defeat someone in a war to kick them off of your color) Free money for everyone (I can't go wrong with that, right?) but not too much, and in particular comparatively more for smaller, active, growing nations Another reason to be active and log in everyday In addition, I may want to change "Color" to something like "Color Faction", "Color League", "Color Bloc", etc. to make it more clear what they are (particularly for new players.) I'd probably do a poll on that with suggestions and let you guys all decide what to call them. As usual, indicate favor/disfavor with like/dislike buttons, and leave your feedback in the replies!

  12. Many years ago a large successful nation known as Gran Pulse existed, it emerged in South America. It quickly grew and expanded across the South American continent becoming a major power in the world, within years it was the dominant power in the world as shown in this old map It was a highly advanced civilization that was destined to take over the world. In the nation's moment of triumph however it was cut down by a god and banished forever into the abyss with Diabolos. It suffered greatly in the abyss for many long years. When all hope seemed lost its leader Lightning emerged from the shadows and cut down the beast Diabolos, she consumed the beast thus stealing his powers. With these new powers she made a tear in the abyss allowing her nation back into the world. She tore another tear into the realm of the god who banished her and her people and decapitated him where he stood. Gran Pulse is reborn, rejoice. The Gran Pulisian people were no longer satisfied with South America so they decided to move to North America. Gran Pulse grew much since the time it was banished, it added 9 cities and and its GDP doubled. Lightning's message to the world is this "we have returned, degenerates should hide as we will show no mercy"

  15. If you switch from the home/away payout system to a win/lose system new players will never play as they can not afford to upgrade their teams with the small amounts of money they would get. He has already stated that he won't change this as he wants the massive amounts of clicks required to upgrade players. While he could and probably should increase the payout for winning games the bigger problem is all the greedy selfish players that never play any away games or tip the people that do play large amounts of away games. You are not new so you should know just how terrible sheepy's RNG is. If he put a limit on how many games that a player could play per hour/turn, no one would ever upgrade their teams again as they would not be able to make any money playing.

  19. "Neptune! Get up this instant! You're going to be late to the meeting!" The voice of Histoire seemed to fall on deaf ears as Neptune continued to stare at the T.V. in front of her, as she lay sprawled out on the floor. "Oh, c'mon, Histy. You know I can't quit in the middle of a battle. Lemme just finish this boss. Hiyah!" Histoire let out a long sigh. "Honestly, I wish you'd display a sense of maturity for important days like this, at least. Look, even Nepgear's ready." Nepgear walked over to where her older sister was, kneeling beside her. "Neptune, are you almost done? We should really get going..." Seconds after, a game over screen could be seen on the T.V. "Aww, game over? No fair! Well, time to try again." Just as Neptune was about to press the reset button, Histoire yanked the cord out from the socket with all her might. "Woah, Histy! It says in the instruction manual that you're not supposed to do that." Histoire began to lose control as the cord was swung around her. Neptune managed to duck, barely dodging it as it flew over her head. "Don't try this at home, boys and girls." A crack then appeared across the screen as the end of the cord finally collided with it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neptune and Nepgear finally departed. They stepped into the teleportation room of the Basilicom, arriving in Celestia moments later. They started walking toward their destination, Celestia Castle. "I'm thankful that we didn't end up breaking our readers' monitors back there." Nepgear said in a relieved tone. Neptune responded. "I'm just hoping my beloved console is okay. Histy can act so Pissty all the time." As they entered the castle, five familiar faces greeted them. Noire was the first to say something. "It's about time you showed up!" Her younger sister, Uni, smiled as she saw Nepgear. "Looks like we beat you here, unsurprisingly." "Heheh... Nice to see you, Uni." Two voices came from the other side of the room. "Miss Nepgear!" "It's Nepgear!" Nepgear turned to where the voices came from. "Oh, Rom and Ram. You're both here, too." Rom smiled, giggling. "Uh-huh! I'm a little nervous, though..." Ram wore a confident smile. "It'll be okay, Rom. We'll just be saying a few words to a camera. That's all." Nepgear nodded. "That's right. Besides, it'll be our big sisters doing most of the talking." Neptune looked up. "Nep-what? We're still in the prologue? And we have to do introductions? I didn't sign up for this!" Noire responded. "This isn't the time for your meta jokes, Neptune. A proper introduction is the least a nation's leader could do." Blanc finally spoke up. "You talk enough anyways. Introducing yourself should be no problem." Neptune sighed. "I guess..." She looked around. "Wait a second, where's Vert?" Noire answered. "Now that you mention it, I'm quite surprised you arrived before her. She must be caught up in something important." Meanwhile in Leanbox... "Oh, come on! What's the rear guard doing out there? Fiiine, I'll cover you myself..." Vert sipped her coffee while staring intently at the screen. "No, I'll be fine. You go on without me. What the?! Oh, poo! They're fast! These guys are just way too fast! Hm?" She clicked elsewhere on the screen. "Discord, huh? Looks like a Skype ripoff to me. Maybe we should shut it dow-oh...? Oooh, it displays what games you're playing as a status message? And has a built-in overlay for games? In that case, it might be a good idea to integrate this with our console's online service. Yes, I believe I'll do that. Oh!" She looked at the time in the corner of the screen. "Time flies when you're having fun. Alright, I best be going." She soon arrived in Celestia. "Sorry I'm late. I logged in intending to play for an hour before heading out, but then a castle siege started, and well, you know...I couldn't very well leave in the middle of that..." Neptune responded. "Serious Goddess fail. You might be even worse at your job than I am." "Not even close." Noire and Blanc said in unison. Noire continued. "Alright, now that everyone's here, let's get this over with. I have a ton of work to do when I get home." "The camera is all set up." Nepgear stated. "Let's go first, Nep Jr." "Hm? I wasn't expecting that. Is it really okay?" Neptune nodded. "Of course! I'm the main character, after all." With that, all the CPUs and CPU Candidates transformed, ready to begin. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nation Name: Planeptune CPU: Purple Heart (Neptune) CPU Candidate: Purple Sister (Nepgear) Oracle: Histoire Capital: Planeptune Population: 90,945,914 "Greetings, to those who reside beyond the borders of Gamindustri. Since our founding, we've strived to provide our citizens, gamer or non-gamer, with the best experience possible. With hard work and determination, we've managed to push ourselves to the top, rivaling the very best the industry has to offer. As a nation, we focus heavily on job creation, and ensuring a high quality of life for our people. Things haven't always gone our way, however. We've dealt with hacking more times than we can remember. Despite that, we continue to push the industry forward like no other. Before I get too carried away, though, I'd like to introduce you all to my younger sister, Uni." "Hey, it's nice to meet you all. My name is Uni, and I'm Lastation's CPU Candidate. I take every opportunity possible to learn as much as I can from my sister so that one day, I'm able to lead proudly and confidently, carrying on our legacy." "Thanks, Uni. I'll wrap things up here. World leaders are welcome to ask any questions they may have. If you wish to request an embassy, please contact Lastation's Basilicom so our Oracle, Kei, may assist you. I wish our viewers a pleasant day. Greatness awaits!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nation Name: Lowee CPU: White Heart (Blanc) CPU Candidates: White Sister (Rom) & White Sister (Ram) Oracle: Mina Nishizawa Capital: Lowee Population: 273,702,988 "Hello, everyone. My name is White Heart, the CPU of Lowee. Lowee is the first and oldest nation of Gamindustri, dating back to our founding in 1889. Since then, we've focused heavily on innovation and quality over powerful hardware. This has allowed us to not only find new ways for people to experience the games they love, but also reach more people around the world than ever before. We've had our fair share of difficult times, coming off of the second worst recession in our nation's history. However, even that didn't stop us from coming back swinging. Due to our most recent hardware release, Lowee's economy and population has grown to become the largest in Gamindustri. But enough about that. I'd like to introduce you to my younger sisters, Rom and Ram." "H-hey there. M-my name is Rom, and I'm one of Lowee's CPU Candidates. My sister and I are working hard to l-lead this nation someday. We won't let you down!" "And I'm Ram. I'm also a CPU Candidate of Lowee. Like my sister said, we're working hard and preparing for the day when we become Lowee's next CPUs! That is, when we're not pulling pranks on our big sister. Hehehe." *sigh* "Thank you, Rom, Ram. Lowee is open to questions and the establishment of foreign embassies. Please contact our Basilicom if you wish to request an embassy so our Oracle, Mina, may assist you. Have a nice day and remember...Switch and play!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nation Name: Leanbox CPU: Green Heart (Vert) Oracle: Chika Hakozaki Capital: Leanbox Population: 20,990,000 "Good morning, all. My name is Green Heart, and I'm the CPU of Leanbox. It's a pleasure to meet you. Of the three other nations that make up Gamindustri, Leanbox is the youngest. We focus heavily on online experiences, as well as developing capable hardware. In fact, our latest hardware has set the record for the most powerful console in history. Power aside, though, we also provide the perfect combination of first and third party support for our system, giving our citizens options when it comes to gaming preferences. Other than that, there isn't too much else to say. Unlike the other CPUs, I wasn't gifted with a cute younger sister, so Leanbox stands as the only nation in Gamindustri without a CPU Candidate. Even so, we're still getting by. Leanbox, too, is open to questions from foreign leaders. If you wish to open an embassy, I ask that you contact our Basilicom so our Oracle, Chika, may help you. I wish you a good day, and remember...it's all for one!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gamindustri Map:

  20. Interesting. My comments are below (though I'm writing this really late so forgive poor wording or bad sentence-stringing - been meaning to write some sort of response to this for a while now)... For personal context, I'm pretty far left leaning, though more moderate in most liberal-type policies, and a European. I'm not a Trump supporter, mostly (though somewhat irrelevant to this particular discussion) due to his environmental beliefs, and sometimes erratic behaviour. Not a US citizen, but probably applies in similar aspects elsewhere - highly likely that most people will take many things at face value. That being said, I don't see how that would create a racial divide, though it could exacerbate such a thing. I would say though that a racial divide probably does exist however, though mostly on the fact that equality for some groups has only come into place within the lifetimes of current generations, and to very much simplify it, "old habits die hard". Considering the speed of communication, and prevalence of social media in the world, real events happening will be both spread quickly and magnified, and will result in mass spreading of truths, as well as mistruths often with little chance for supporting evidence. It, like with all other forms of 'media' should be used with some caution and objectiveness. There's always going to be an agenda on behalf of someone regardless of source or subject. I suspect not (don't know much about his history however), though that would be somewhat amusing... Actually, fairly recently (last August) at the place I was working at the time I did witness something that could be taken as racism (or at least pretty rude) directed in audible range of someone else in the room during a conversation I was having with them - it was along the lines of "I can't understand what these people are saying" spoken with a noticeable element of malice, and said not quite as politely as that. That was in an area with ~95% native population (about half of which have pretty thick, hard to understand native English accents anyway, somewhat hypocritical at least). I resent the fact that mainstream, centrist/big business/organisation supporting media is referred to as 'leftist' :p On a different, though somewhat related note, a potential article of interest for discussion on the subject of free speech, the use of media & social media, and potential racial divides: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/may/11/rakem-balogun-interview-black-identity-extremists-fbi-surveillance

  22. @Alex The main issue I see with this update, is it doesn't really incentivize people to form up color blocs in the first place. There is no added advantage to two allies forming up in the same color, since the more people in one color doesn't increase the bonus, unless those people are above the current average, but even then, 10 people at 2m a day amounts to the same as 100 people at 2m a day. I'll probably think on it and make a counter suggestion, but as is I don't think this is super effective. The bonus is pretty low too, a 100k increase in income isn't going to do much to incentivize people to do anything. It should be taxable if its replacing the color bonus.

  33. Just saw this thread, not parsing through it so this might have already been said, but frick it. The issue has never been score and pixels, the issue has been the lack of meaningful daily actions. The issue will never be score and pixels, the issue will always be the lack of meaningful daily actions. There is next to nothing to do in this game for the average player on a day to day basis. How is lowering the cost of city 20 going to change the fact that most nations never make it beyond 2? This is naked politicking. The reasoning in the OP is simple projection, a new nation literally can not fathom city count because it takes so long to see it in action and actually feel the difference. Edit: Read it, the projection is running wild. Everyone dumping their feelings of inadequacy on noobs who literally often have to be walked through the tutorial again before the even get their nations functioning. Real solution, make it so players get to city 5 through the tutorial alone, while adding bot nations that attack them so they have to beat an opponent on their own. Also, make forming an alliance more expensive. Still too many sink holes of suck.

  36. At this point we have reached a state of the game where the difference between both the nation city count and the alliance city counts are, at best, large enough that it stifles the game's atmosphere. As a member of an alliance of over maybe 300, maybe 275, accepted taxcows in our history, the economics of the game have struggled to the point where alliances are discouraged from investing in new taxcows, hurting P&W's all over retention. When noob- I mean new players see people with 20+ cities, and realize that it takes literally little-to-no-brainpower to reach that level it hurts the levels of retention of said taxcows. City costs at the sub-20 level are simply too atrocious in their current state to assist newer taxcows in reaching that level, as shown by the numerous statistical number and pie graphs showing how most newer tax cows quit early on. If there was a radical cut in the sub 20 city prices, say, to 0 cost all the way up to 14 cities, it would enable ALL alliances to develop newer tax cows, and let them catch up to the normal cash cow player base, and increase retention across the board for all alliances in Orbis. This in effect would have no negative impact on older cash cows, who retain their cities they have literally just no-brain bought, but will help every alliance when developing newer tax cows. Everyone on Orbis benefits from increased retention of newer tax cows, and there isn't a benefit to it requiring literal little-to-no-brainpower to catch up to the established cash cow base.

  37. Hi Everyone, I've just heard from Sarah, who you may know as Fraggle Rock in game, about the passing of her brother. I was very upset to hear about his passing, and wanted to wish the best to both her and her family. I owe a lot of my enjoyment of this game to her, and I'm sure that is not unique to just me. I wouldn't hesitate to call her a friend, and knowing that she is going through a hard time leaves me wondering what I can do to help. She is doing her best to deal with his affairs. Her brother is survived by his two children, aged two years and six weeks old, which are the reason I'm writing this announcement. Sarah will be caring for her brother's children, and I wanted to see if anyone in this community would be able to help. I've gotten a Venmo account from her which can be used to send along money to help. I'd ask everyone to consider chipping some in, as obviously this is a lot for her to deal with, as she does already have two children of her own. If for whatever reason you're not able to send funds through Venmo or email, please let me know and I'll see about setting up an alternate method. If you want to send your best wishes along, I'd appreciate you using this thread, just so that she's able to take things at her own pace. If she needs to talk, I'm sure she knows we are available to her. Below I've included a Venmo account, and an email address. The Venmo account is more direct, so please use it first if you are able to do either. Venmo Account: @sarahC81 Email address (for e-transfers) : [email protected] (please include a note indicating this is intended for Sarah) Thanks for reading. If you're able to help signal boost this a bit I'd appreciate it. If there's any logistical questions please feel free to contact me.

  38. 1. Denial and isolation "My nation was never GPA! If it was, then everybody was GPA!" The first reaction to learning about ever being GPA is to deny the reality of the situation. “This isn’t happening, this can’t be happening,” people often think. It is a normal reaction to rationalize your overwhelming emotions. Denial is a common defense mechanism that buffers the immediate shock of being GPA, numbing you to your emotions. You block out the words and hide from the facts. You start to believe that life is meaningless, and nothing is of any value any longer. For most people experiencing grief, this stage is a temporary response that carries you through the first wave of pain. 2. Anger "It wasn't me! And who is this Naam, and why would he accept such an application?!" As the masking effects of denial and isolation begin to wear, reality and its pain re-emerge. You are not ready. The intense emotion is deflected from your vulnerable core, redirected and expressed instead as anger. The anger may be aimed at inanimate objects, innocent hobbits, complete strangers, friends or family. Anger may be directed at GPA. Rationally, you know GPA is not to be blamed. Emotionally, however, you may resent the GPA for ever accepting you or for leaving you. You feel guilty for being angry, and this makes you more angry. 3. Bargaining "Please Sheepy! Change my nation ID!" The normal reaction to feelings of helplessness and vulnerability is often a need to regain control through a series of “If only” statements, such as: If only I had sought another alliance sooner… If only I got a second opinion from another P&W player… If only I had tried to be a better member toward them, we could've pushed them away from neutrality sooner… This is an attempt to bargain. Secretly, you may make a deal with Sheepy in an attempt to change your nation ID. This is a weaker line of defense to protect you from the painful reality. 4. Depression "I wasted so much time being GPA, yet my nation misses it so much..." There are two types of depression that are associated with mourning. The first one is a reaction to practical implications relating to being GPA. Sadness and regret predominate this type of depression. You worry about consequences. You worry that, in your grief, you have spent less time with others that depend on you. This phase may be eased by simple clarification and reassurance. You may need a bit of helpful cooperation and a few kind words. The second type of depression is more subtle and, in a sense, perhaps more private. It is your quiet preparation to separate and to bid GPA farewell. Sometimes all you really need is a hug. 5. Acceptance. "My nation was GPA." Reaching this stage of grieving is a gift not afforded to everyone. GPA may be sudden and unexpected or you may never see beyond your anger or denial. It is not necessarily a mark of bravery to resist the inevitable and to deny yourself the opportunity to make your peace. This phase is marked by withdrawal and calm. This is not a period of happiness and must be distinguished from depression. Coping with GPA is ultimately a deeply personal and singular experience — nobody can help you go through it more easily or understand all the emotions that you’re going through. But others can be there for you and help comfort you through this process. The best thing you can do is to allow yourself to feel the grief as it comes over you. Resisting it only will prolong the natural process of healing.

  39. Every time I see this I automatically think of the Mickey Mouse Club song ♫ G - R - U... M - P - Y ♫ And I keep expecting somebody to finish it. I guess it's up to me. ♫ We're - All - Old - Fog - eys ♫ ♫ Grumpy whales! ♫ ♫ Grumpy whales! ♫ now maybe that song will no longer be stuck in my head >_<

  44. I mean it's getting to the point where I have to start wondering if Mensa's really a bunch of lunatics who belong in an asylum who wanna be geniuses while IQ has an IQ of zero. I mean do you really do this just for the memes? You make all that effort at creating artwork just for some silly number in the bottomrighthand corner of a post? I thought that was bad enough on social media, but in a fake game of fake politics... jeez.
