  1. People have been complaining about planes being overpowered, so perhaps we should boost the strength of Ground Control to 50%. Full disclosure, I'm saying this as someone who's currently being GC'ed, so it would weaken me too if the change went live now.

  2. Everyone knows my name, the day I arrived, the very forests of Orbis whispered the name, Shifty. For 5 years everyone has known the name Shifty. Every alliance, player, and mod has known me. You can scour every Discord and find an opinionated comment on my existence. Every player in this game has seen me as their ally, enemy, friend, thorn at their side, or has been at a loss as to why I am popular. In many cases, people have switched freely between these opinions. Even OoC wise I have been an enigma to most people, for I have been accused of being: A.... Stoner Alcoholic Christian Muslim Black White Asian Child/teenager Boomer Rich *** Pest Incel Communist "Can't see good" Libertarian Friendly and helpful Toxic Criminal More than one person Insane I've had 5 years of different forms of Shifty From the odd shitposter that everyone loved year 1 except Mensa From year 2 where I was the most popular player (rivaled Yui and Kurdanak for nicest player in a yearly award category) and finally founded my first alliance Year 3 where everyone thought I was gonna start the right wing uprising and war on women Year 4 where I just played as a nuke rogue and warring alliance hopper that leaked everyone Year 5-kept the leaks going, joined IQ and made my own AA again, fought in this endless war, disbanded, and went inactive Now we're at 5 years, going into the first day of year 6. Shifty promises another glorious 21,900 turns. As the age old saying goes, "Shifty is like herpes, you may think he's gone, but he always comes back." The SNN server will continue, but it's going to be more of Shifty's social hangout. There will probably be a newer server or group along the line to continue causing annoyances for people. Like P/W, Shifty is always a work in progress. Except when Shifty crashes, lags out, or glitches it's because of high blood alcohol count, not poor quality servers, ayy lmao. What's left for Shifty in P/W? Not much that he hasn't done. Still, he'll find something new to do. For nostalgia fans:

  6. As a member of Coalition B, I can say that the current awards are nothing more than a circlejerk between the major alliances on our side. Every year, it's the same. "@everyone, be sure to vote for X members/alliances so we can win!" It's made the yearly awards a joke, and I'm sure others agree with me when I say I don't care about them. It seems like alliances such as NPO and GOONS are wholeheartedly defending the current system because it's seemingly the only thing they're good at organizing and coming together for, basically guaranteeing their side the win every year. Their members will blindly vote for whomever their leadership tells them to without thinking about who actually deserves it. You can try to deny this is the case, but you're not fooling anybody. I've seen it myself year after year. The current system is a joke and needs to be improved upon if there is to ever be any credibility to these awards. I guarantee you if the situation was reversed, and Coalition A members were dominating the awards, it would be Coalition B alliances trying to devise a new system. You have the other side trying to work with you to create a fair voting system, but are shutting them down because things went your way this year. It's pretty sad. @hope and everyone else, this is a great suggestion and I agree with it 100%. I appreciate the effort even if no one else on my side does.

  8. Yeah, idk how the anti-communism stuff would square with their theme. I assumed the theme was just related to the anime/wehraboo stuff and the anti-socialism stuff separate. There isn't really a need to adopt Afrika Korps to be against socialism, but it doesn't even make sense to be against socialism in the context of the game in Africa even. Are there socialist movements in the in-game continent? What would they even be doing? There have been Libertarian(recruited off libertarian websites like protest warrior), Conservative alliances, gun alliances, and so on that all had their RL beliefs against socialism as the unifying glue but extolled them without invoking Aryan supremacy and German militarism. I've always thought the theme was distasteful and could definitely attract the wrong type of people(some of the banned guys) for one, but I never thought Khai or Skae were nazis as they gave no indications of such. The theme isn't really defensible on the grounds of anti-communism; at best, it was an ill-conceived way to RP girls und panzer and at worst an intentional lure for the wrong type of people. It's the precise issue with these types of themes; they can't be truly sanitized or handwaved away as non-malicious. Like Shifty had Hyperborea to troll and see if he could get away with the invocation of estoeric Nazism but the type of people who surrounded him did have the real beliefs even if it's doubtful that Shifty himself is a believer in fascism in the real world, he was still doing stuff that caused him to be in that orbit.

  9. Orbis needs a way to disagree and show their dissent of posts. We need a tool to show we don't support an announcement or a new judgement or something of that sort. The game becomes stagnant if the admins don't understand what the game wants and what it does not. While all current reactions are ""Yes, I agree" or "That is funny" or "I support this", we lack a reaction which says "Frick off" or "No one likes you dummy". The proposal: Add a new reaction called "Downvote". It can look like this: It's effect will be lowering the reputation of the post(and in general of the poster overall). This will give politics a whole new dynamic where you might wage wars because people down-voted you. It will also have an effect where communities can mass-downvote people to make them look dumb. It will give Orbis a rebellious voice as well as can be used for targeted Dumb Person Attacks.

  11. Just as you claim I'm ignoring your points, you repeatedly ignore mine. I've explained multiple times how it's not a closed off cabal (it combines the "cabal", as you call it, and popular vote methods) and it's open to changes/suggestions but you continually ignore that. No one cares about the outcome of the last awards either, that's just you continually trying to push your expectations for why we might want to change the awards on us based on this, despite multitudes of people agreeing that the structure of awards doesn't work. You can have your awards for this year, keep them. I don't expect the results for this year to significantly change either, in all honesty, and that's not the point of this. But we might actually get more well rounded nominations and there are proposals for additional fun categories. So join the discussion and suggest that instead of just saying nothing's wrong with them just because you're happy with how this year's went (see, your argument goes both ways ). I'm not the sole arbiter of this process and I can't claim credit for this idea either - it's hope's and I, along with others, am just trying to help refine it. If what you outlined here is what you think would make for a better award process, go get involved and help us refine it. This process isn't set in stone. Either way, no one's forcing you to participate. We'd certainly like you to but that's your decision.

  12. No you're trying to change the majority of the vote to only account for 20% of the total vote, basically stripping away the views of the voters (ODsphere) to give yourselves a competitive advantage for a 25x25 pixel award.

  13. My entire argument is invalid because I don't see a problem with the present system and literally explained it out here? Glad to hear! The circus of the absurd seems to be getting more absurd day by day. I don't see problems with the system to spend time trying to find a "fairer" or better solution. None exists that isn't inherently exclusionary. I don't see the point joining a discord server to say these exact same lines. I mean if you want to argue for the sake of opposing me feel free. Maybe you'll read this post and see why it's preposterous to think there's some better system than a completely open one as done presently. Nice to see your veneer of "fairness" and "objectivity" finally slipping though.

  20. Nuclear Weapons irl are supposed to be deterrents. But what makes nukes a deterrent rather than an offensive weapon? For that let us look into what a nuclear weapon is: A nuclear weapon (also called an atom bomb, nuke, atomic bomb, nuclear warhead, A-bomb, or nuclear bomb) is an explosive device that derives its destructive force from nuclear reactions, either fission (fission bomb) or from a combination of fission and fusion reactions (thermonuclear bomb). Both bomb types release large quantities of ENERGY from relatively small amounts of matter. The main type of energy released by a nuclear device is RADIATION( Eg: Visible and Inviible Radiation like Gamma Rays, X-Rays, Infrared Rays(the heat energy), Visible Light(Light you see), UV Rays, etc). While Visible Radiation isn't known to cause much damage to living organisms, UV rays, Gamma-Rays, X-Rays, etc are known to cause widespread damage to living tissues ranging from burns to genetic disorders. Currently, the in-game mechanics of a nuclear hit is: 1) Nuke destroys infrastructure in the city(hence killing people) 2) Nukes cause a spike in pollution(causing more disease, thereby lowering population more) 3) Nukes cause a spike in radiation for the Nation and World. (Forgive me if I missed some part of the mechanics. I'm a noob at the game) Now, let us compare these effects to an actual Nuclear Hit: 1) Nuke destroys infrastructure in the city and kills people. 2) Nuke causes a spike in RADIOACTIVITY(and pollution). 3) Nuclear fallout spikes radiation in the City, Nation and World. The effects of the two might seem similar but we are forgetting what radiation does- IT KILLS PEOPLE aka affects disease rates in ig terms. The suggestion hence is: Tie nuclear radiation with disease. A blast from a nuclear weapon needs to cause a spike in disease. And not just in the city or nation, but in the whole world of Orbis. Since nuclear radiation is now tied with increase in disease rates, a nuke blast will cause a spike in disease not just in the nation but the entire world. The population of not just that country but the world as a whole will be affected, which in turn causes doctrines of MAD and such stuff to be established via in-game politics. Since disease is directly related to income, a large number of nuclear hits can cause you to literally stop making money, giving a way to fight against an enemy with superior firepower. This also forces your enemies to beige you faster(which helps losing sides gain some much needed beige time). Also, since disease is directly related to income, large number of nuclear hits cause you to NOT BE ABLE TO produce military units, another way to gain an advantage against a stronger foe. However, what we saw till now makes it seems nukes will affect the person hit more. This makes nukes OP. But you are forgetting the Global Radiation Index. Yes, if you blast a nuke, it affects you too. And in-fact, it affects everyone on Orbis. IF you blast too many nukes, you can cause your enemies to stop making money. But the same is true for your allies as well. The formula for deaths by Radiation can be: Deaths= Global Radiation*1000 + Continent Radiation*5000 + Country Radiation(a new variable that will need to be introduced)*10,000 Country Radiation will be a new variable that will need to be introduced and can be equal to Nukes Eaten*5. Thus, if you eat 100 nukes, it will be 500 Radiation Index. It will decrease at the rate of 1 index per 2 days(24 turns) and the effects of a nuclear detonation will cease after 10 days(120 turns) Taking this country as an example: https://politicsandwar.com/nation/id=144313 With a Global Index of around 140, 140,000 people will die per city( Or equivalent to 140 infrastructure) and with a Continent Index of 53, 265,000 people will die per city(Or equivalent to 265 infrastructure) and with a Country Radiation of say 18, 180,000 people will die per city(equivalent to 180 infrastructure). Hence, a total of 585,000 people or 585 infrastructure worth of people will die per city from radiation. As for the person launching it(say this nation here: https://politicsandwar.com/nation/id=5909), they will lose a total of 405,000 people or 405 infrastructure worth of people per city. This makes it seem OP but the motive is to make it overpowered. And since it is a dual edged sword, you will have to think twice before engaging in nuclear warfare.

  26. You can currently attack enemies using spies while hiding behind Beige. Seeing as it is an offensive action, you should not be able to destroy nukes, missiles, spies, or bomb barracks/drydocks/hangars with spies while in Beige. To complement this, you should not be able to be targeted by spies while in beige.

  33. The Afrika Korps was definitely not "anti-communist" or fought the Soviets in any serious battle in Northern Africa. It fought the British Empire, the legacy of which even today was he fought versus the colonial armies (Indians especially). The AK for all of its "clean" image, was always an army that fought for the NAZIS, led by someone who was close to Hitler, and who at best was the hero celebrated by that Government till his eventual falling out over his alleged support for the July 20th plot. Revising history here doesn't do any good to somehow clean AK's image within this game. Khai/Skae and others weren't NAZIs and AK at large had no such connotation, since to me they were hardcore weaboos (same2same), from Entitei Ropurei and have always been consistent with the said themes. AK may have been a lightning rod to distasteful characters who'd see the theme and try to co-opt their views into AK, but were rightfully dealt with when brought up. Trying to use historical revisionism to okay the existence of the theme does a greater disservice to players who seemed more interested in the Girls und Panzer anime, than attempting any historical revisionism. The Afrika Korps will always be tainted for the country/system they fought for and were supported by and no amount of bleach/white-wash can get rid of that stain. Girls und Panzer/Weaboos on the other hand and players who have no interest in the name apart from an anime is a different ball-game to an extent, so attempting to connect the two, is a disservice to Khai/Skae and others here imho.

However, we are curious to see how a more realistic "Starvation Mode" would affect Orbis' human populations. Naturally, more people might find themselves considering transhumanist augmentation solutions, such as Robotopia's newly-patented DynaGullet stomach recycler... 40. After some thinking and digging on the word "troon," my understanding is that the term originated on the SA forum as meaning "transgender goon" and the meaning has evolved into a pejorative for "a mannish mis-gendered transgender woman" and that it's evolved outside of the SA forum, it's being used on Twitter and identified in LGBT communities as a pejorative term used by anti-homosexual, anti-trans people and groups. I agree that the people who used it originally on the game forum probably didn't mean it in that way, but I do think it is a particularly hurtful/awful word for people who are transgender, in the same vein as words targeting other groups, and I just don't have a good feeling about allowing it on the forum. I don't know how many transgender players we actually have, but I don't want to foster a hateful community that makes them feel unwelcome. I am going to add "troon" to the filtered word list, so it should just be a non-issue from here on out. If people insist on using it on the forum, they'll be subject to the filter evasion rules, and I think that's the simplest way to handle this. I know the question about where we draw the line has arisen, and my intent is not to allow any word to be turned into a "slur" that gets banned on the forum. But I think I've done my due diligence on this one and I just don't feel good about letting it be used un-checked on the forum. Future cases like this we'll examine similarly and not necessarily just throw on the filtered list like this.
