  1. This will be a bit of OOC, but I feel like the conversation has moved that way in this thread so it's effectively fine. I spent a fair amount of my time playing the villain role in PnW, whether you think I was good or bad at it personally, I've been given enough nods on the character I've played in this world and others to feel qualified on speaking on what it takes to play the villain. Insults? They're fine if there's substance to them. You need a narrative, a reason to be insulting this person/group. There needs to be more to what you're doing than showing off your trolling ability, or lack there off. It's about quality and not quantity. Knowing when to speak and when to hold your punches and wait for the chance to make that critical hit. Why throw 100 punches when you can get a better effect with 2-3 proper ones. You also have to have the well-being of the game in mind. Know that you're the villain, embrace it. People are going to hate you and you can't let that bother you. But you have to know your role is to eventually lose. The best examples I can give of it are TEst and TKR. TEst embraced it's "We're the enemy" role under me, we harassed people picked fights and played off of the two spheres for as long as we could until a large section of the game came together to smash us to pieces. At that point TEst split and formed some splinters. TKR was the villain after that happened, but didn't seem to realize it or want it. They did little with the villain role really. There were almost no major wars for a long period of time. Then, like TEst, a large portion of the game united to smash them. Had TKR embraced their villain role and flexed on people frequently it might have accelerated their downfall but it would have created more interesting events that we would still be talking about. I'm not saying TEst did things right and TKR didn't things wrong but more highlighting the differences in accepting your role and trying to go against it. I often hear people look back on TEst with some very exaggerated mindset, recently Thanos said something to the effect of "Don't think you're TEst suiciding into a bigger alliance", when TEst never really did that. When you embrace your villain role stories of what you did get exaggerated, there becomes this legend about what you were/did and people talk about the crazy things you did, even if they've been warped to events that didn't actually happen. I've started to ramble.. Anyway, what I'm saying is stories are made by the villain. You need a good one for a good story. Build your reputation, make some moves that cause people to talk about "hey remember that time that guy did that thing?". But if you're the boy who cried wolf, constantly trolling/insulting your words lose their potency. tl;dr Quality villainy over quantity of villainy.

  2. From the desk of Wembley Fraggle The Best Nation Ever, Fraggle Rock Greetings Friends!! We Fraggles have been hard at work developing a new technology. Since we suspended our nuclear program, we have decided to move into new research: Time Travel. That's right, The Fraggles of Fraggle Rock have built the first ever time machine powered by uranium and chuckles. We have not tested this new technology yet, but our dear friend Boober has volunteered to have a go at it. I'm ready to go Wembley. Forward, backward, up or down....send me on an adventure. ..... 5. No thanks. I don't agree with the premise in the first place. Allowing alliance banks - storing rebuild aid and war-chest infusions later on in war - to be looted is a one-way ticket to discouraging war even further. There are a few interesting ideas that can pop up due to this change, but it really is not worth it in the long run.

  6. Clearly player run banks are a vital aspect of the game that we need to protect and design all updates of the game to avoid disrupting activities that serve the interests of so many.

  7. So basically Radoje/Radovanko played us all. I consider him pretty chill, but hey if he did it he'll hide out and we need to find him. If he didn't do it, he'd come out and fess up. That being said share trading is suspended so you can't cash out and we got fricked. Don't trust anyone. @Alex @Prefontaine Hit that shit. Add that city update.

  10. Others have covered most of what I have to say in the matter (Mitsu, Scarf, Nizam etc). But I gotta comment on this... presentation that solo AA banking is somehow difficult to pull off. It isn't. All you need is a decently active individual whom you can trust. If he's cautious even the better. Keeping a bank safe that way is no rocket science. Even then, one man AA isn't the only way to do it. Having an ally hold it for you, for instance, can work in certain circumstances. Apeman held TRF's bank when we blitzed them, for instance. Furthermore, I'll go ahead and say that the amount of leaders who went like "Uhm, we shouldn't war in part because our bank AA might get looted during the war." in the pre planning of a war is 0. It's not a frequent enough occurrence (practically 0 if you picked the right guy to do the job) to ever be considered as a factor, nor is it a factor you should even be weighing in to conclude whether you should war or not. Your main concern is seeing if you can even win. If so, you'll be too busy reaching out for potential allies, organizing the coalition and sorting out who hits what to be concerned about such a minute detail. I also don't see the issue of scoring a big hit with proper coordination if you were presented an opportunity, given that such opportunity always pops up as a result of the banker's slip up, be it inactivity, overconfidence or others. I think that we should be aiming to have everyone be more competent and capable, rather than dumbing things down. As for the "transfer of wealth". AA bank loot can be nullified if you're reasonably competent. Individual/nation loot can be greatly mitigated if you properly manage the amount of resources sent to nations in between and manage your tax policies. We learned that when we bled loot like crazy in the first weeks of 69, but after a couple of weeks it basically went down to nothing. Part of it was natural thinning out, but we noticed that it decreased greatly after implementing our countermeasures. Obviously, everything is a tradeoff, but that's just part of the game. As Scarf said, nothing is without risk. @Venom It would be a double edged sword for raiders. In one hand, yes less loot. But on the flip side, their bank held loot would be far, far safer. This is particularly more important for solo man raiders than for other raiding AA's.

  11. Well the thing is that the intention of you and the original poster is different. Shify wants to abolish alliance banks so that people can raid alliance banks and get nice loot. You want to abolish alliance banks because you don't like the cluster of tiny alliances. I have not much of a problem with the cluster and would oppose eliminating alliance bank looting entirely just for the sake of reducing the number of alliances. I think offshore banks in total are not as much of a problem when it comes to the huge amount of alliances in comparison to many dead alliances that basically make up almost every alliance from #150 to (currently) #240 in the alliance ranking. If reducing the number of alliances is an important matter for you, then I would suggest you implement something into the game that leads to the deletion of alliances below a certain alliance score and below a certain amount of members after a certain amount of time if all the members are inactive. Edit: One of the reasons I oppose abolishing alliance bank loot entirely is because the occasional slip does happen. Grumpy Old Bastards during Knightfall would be a good example for that.

  12. What do you think about just eliminating alliance bank looting entirely then? It wouldn't change how the game is played, other than it wouldn't be necessary to have all these extra "fake" alliances is how I'm seeing it.

  13. Other issues I see, what if you were say at the cap and then you have a splinter and half the alliance leaves. Does excess get deleted? If so I could see some pretty big exploits and if it doesn't then the cap is pretty exploitable. I don't think there is much of a fix here that won't be easily worked around or cripple the alliance banks to be basically useless.

  14. Pre classy as always, totally not biased or anything. No need to apologize mate, it wasn't your fault. It was Rado's actions not your or anyone else. Needless to say the bank was more than one person and as Shifty's post said it, it was too big to fail as we're still here and we'll recover from this, albeit it'll be a long road ahead.

  15. I'd like to apologize first hand, me as well as the directors in Orion Bank were unaware of the ponzi scheme being ran by Rado. Orion though, is dedicated to rebuilding it's trust with customers as well as finding a solution to minimize the damages caused.

  17. The great Gods of Pantheon watched as the internal fires burned, Matthew frantically running about with a water pistol trying to put them out. “You know what we need?” said Matthew, now lacking eyebrows, “A war”. Rawr and Nomi both shrugged, decided fck it, might was well. They then went about figuring war out. As they were 90 percent stupid, 10 percent good at their respective jobs, 0 percent people who should be taking an alliance to war. The targets then made themselves known. Nova Riata led by the fearsome Pooball was in a pesky mood for revenge. For what we had no idea. Probably something lame. They had boosted their military… a lot fold. Their score had jumped up. Pooball had constantly reminded me that he would nuke me someday (plz no). “Sure, why not.” rawr decided. The Federation was led by… Kosta, cool dude I guess, and they too wanted revenge. Revenge for never getting invited to our League nights. They too went about not sneakily massing troops and score. If they were ninjas it would be the Naruto kind. “Screw it” went rawr. (Or maybe not, but I already wrote all these jokes so this paragraph stays >:^( It was then that I wondered why rawr was so nonchalant about these wars. She’s going to Endgame at turn change. Cri. TLDR: Figure it out for yourselves yeet. (Is it just me or is our flag a lil big. No matter.)

  18. The only one to "fix" this would be to remove the Alliance Bank looting altogether. Otherwise, people will just find another way to be crafty with moving it.
    2 points
  19. Honestly, I didn't read most of this thread so I won't know if this got mentioned yet, but wouldn't removing alliance bank looting just encourage alliances to keep their inactives in the alliance? Right now, keeping around inactives is a risk to the alliance because if they get raided then the alliance bank will get looted (unless moved), regardless of the nation getting moved to applicant status after the fact. This would then make it harder to find inactives to raid since they'd all be couped up in alliances being useless, and only serving as pseudo-score for their alliances whom are hoping they might one day make a return to the game. Really, there's more damage in this change towards raiding than what's shown on the surface.

  20. Ending alliance bank looting would make this game a lot more playable for newer alliances as well. Not having to build up the infrastructure to be able to hide your stuff at a second's notice is just a better deal.

  21. While I agree, it would be nice to eliminate this weird mechanic, I don't really know how to go about it in a meaningful way. I mean the simplest answer would be just to eliminate looting of alliance banks altogether. While that's not ideal, and basically makes funds/rss untouchable, that's more or less the de facto status quo anyway. It would eliminate all the extra 1-3 nation alliances clutter, and there's be less of a penalty to some nations/alliances for not being clever enough about hiding their stuff. The mechanics would more or less be the same as now; you could hide all of your money/rss in a bank (your alliance bank) and if you got Blockaded you'd be screwed. I don't know, I don't like it, but it wouldn't really make anything different than it is now.

  22. I'm not sure how many times I have to say this for people to listen, but I'm clearly not there yet, so here we go again. NEVER TRUST A BANK THAT ISN'T OPEN ABOUT THEIR FINANCES. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT PROVIDING PERIODIC FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, AND ANY BANK THAT DOES NOT DO THIS AT THE LEAST SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED WITH SIGNIFICANT MONEY. If only people followed this advice, Rado would not have been able to pull what he did to the extent he did. This happened not only because Rado was a crook, but also because everyone who invested in him was lazy about doing their homework.

  23. Didn't you see, Rado deleted i'm mourning. Nah jk I'm happy. I always tell people investing in banks is stupid. Its fun watching stupid people lose all their money.

  24. Yes, because history has proven bandaid fixes are exactly what the game needs.

  25. This game is inherently conflict driven, so yes. If everyone started holding hands and singing kum ba ya, then user generated content that drives the IC dynamics forward (which is what a significant portion are here for) would pretty much end immediately. That said, there’s a fine line between being antagonistic, playing ‘the villain’ etc., and being a dumbass like Akuryo and coming off as a petulant child who thinks everyone but them is retarded. The latter isn’t fun for about anyone, it isn’t playing the villain, it isn’t making the meta any more interesting. (I will say this. They have done a spectacular job of pissing people off. It’s the means that I have an issue with.)

  26. The OWF would get real boring real quick if the only content people were posting were ‘nice’ things about one another. In fact, I would argue that doing this would be far more damaging to the community than Akuryo waltzing around talking out of their ass and acting self-important.

  33. Just wanted to mention something to keep in mind when you so thoughtlessly dismiss this. This is an MMO in which everyone is constantly printing money. Every MMO developer faces a problem, which is that the supply of stuff is constantly increasing at an ever faster rate. If this continues unabated then there will be so much stuff in the game that it will all become next to worthless. Try to consider for a moment that nothing ever gets done to create resource sinks, what is the end result of that? Resources will become so abundant that there is almost no demand. They cease to have value, where $1000 may once have bought you 1 unit of munitions it will now buy 1000 units because the abundance of resources is such that every listing is the lowest PPU possible, $1. The market will no longer be competitive or impoprtant. So far gone will the situation be that even major wars won’t budge the price at all. Everyone will be using the same city template, resources will become irrelevant numbers that require no strategising or forethought. That’s the end result of leaving things be. IRL you can just stop printing money to fix this problem, but you can’t just stop nations from having revenue. The solution to the problem of hyperdeflation in PW is to add resource sinks and commerce changes in such a way that reasonably stable balance is struck between supply and demand of all resources. That is measured in price. Picking a random benchmark price for resources and seeing if new features take you closer to it or further away is a valid strategy for measuring the impact of changes.

  34. This is a good idea. Have commerce require resources, just like producing resources requires money. Create a cycle of buying and selling that previously was not required, which could add an interesting economic dynamic.

  35. It was obvious that Nova and The Federation were gearing up for war, just had to look at their militerisation. But hats off to Pantheon to at least catching them by surprise, rather than waiting for a Blitzing by TF and Nova.

  36. Pardon? Pika and Gator are Soup Kitchen members. They are currently in Food Pantry/Metallica, which are extensions of Soup. If Kos for example created an extension and called it “Farkistan” - it would not be a 1v3, it would still be a 1v2 as Kos is a Fark member and merely using a separate AA as an extension. Spinning is not your forte, Moonshadow. I suggest you stick with your multis.

  37. Many often talk about the need and their desire to have more fair wars, yet even the most "ballsy" rarely ever do it. This war despite the first strike advantage is not anywhere near 100% favourable for soup, especially looking at that tiering sheet. Respectable move for your first war, I hope others take this as an example. Well done. PS: Kastor... lmao And James.... get off the crack.

  41. Earlier tonight, the Witch Council informed the Federation of Alexiamia and Sweden's government that Rokkenjima will be terminating the Empire of Witches Pact, thus completely ending all relations between the two countries. This also means Rokkenjima's withdrawal from the Great Northern Trade Route. Although the treaty's terms do not conclude for another 72 hours, the citizens of Rokkenjima have wasted no time celebrating. People across the nation have taken to the streets, waving the nation's flag whilst singing Rokkenjima's national anthem. Crowds have even gathered outside the FSA's embassy in Tokyo, burning their flag and cheering for their eventual departure. Thus far, there have been no law-breakers and no arrests have been made. Run and Wave of the Jaegers have been ordered by the Witch Council to keep an eye on the crowd and ensure that no violence erupts. Further coverage will continue throughout the night.
