  1. It's been pointed out to you many times over a few threads now that nobody is ignoring Nokia and George. Elijah is getting the brunt of the hate now because hes the only person who didnt cooperate, he is the only person who hasnt suffered any form of punishment in anyway (either mandatory or voluntary), put out a hollow `I got caught` apology and has spent the past few days since this revelation being a smug prick all over the place popping up everywhere to say that despite breaking the rules and being an important middle man in a cheating scheme, he didnt actually cheat. Yes, with all that in mind, it's absolutely mind boggling as to why everybody really hates the guy that plenty of people already hated in a time where the game shits out a new cheating scandal every 3 weeks and the punishments for them are laughable at best. Jesus, it's really not that difficult at all when you think about it.

  2. Pch, your argument is that EM did nothing wrong because Nokia also did something indefensible? That's like 3 fallacies at once, including false comparison (Nokia =/= EM, what either is guilty of does not actually change what the other is guilty of), two wrongs don't make a right (Just because two people did indefensible things doesn't justify either), and ad hominem (nothing about Nokia is in any way relevant to EM's rulebreaking). See, it is important to stand by your allies, of course. One must absolutely defend them... when they are defensible. One must give them the benefit of the doubt... when there is reasonable doubt. One must take great care to avoid stirring up stupid drama... even when it's difficult. And you are making it REALLY difficult.

  3. First off, messing with you on discord and dunking on you in-game are in no way cheating, at least in terms of what Alex has jurisdiction over. Which is how it should be. Your drama is entirely your problem and not the administration's. Second, Alex was friends with and gave quite a bit of preferential treatment to a number of better examples... examples which have since been banned outright. Which rather undercuts your point, assuming you even had one and weren't just depositing salt over your childish drama with Pre. Third, presumably he's talking about Church of Atom.

  4. Standard punishment for this is a nation wipe: Nokia rerolled AFTER they bought their money, hence they gained no ingame advantage - Nation wiped. Gorge wiped his nation himself despite not even getting that much attention. - Nation wiped. Noticing a pattern here? EM is the singular person from the trio that has been proven to be linked to this entire fiasco that has NOT gone through what would be the rightful punishment for trading irl money for ingame currency. Therefore, it's quite logical to ignore people that have essentially already wiped their nations themselves and faced the punishment they should've received (motives literally do not matter, point is there was a punishment and regardless of why they did it, they have wiped their nations, negating any benefit they would have received) in favour of someone who was uncooperative from the start, only really helping once he saw he would be banned and since then has been allowed off the hook scot-free. And I have literally never interacted with EM in anyway whatsoever to have prejudices against him.

  5. Bout 2.5 years ago, before and during S.A.L.T, don't need delusions when even the schizo has good enough memory to remember being there. I also recall you lot being pretty vocal about TEst hitting you, closer to 2 years ago, and Oblivion nearly a year ago now. TEst specifically you fled to VM with a vow to return when it was inconvenient for revenge, and Oblivion you only stopped when KETOG militarized and spooked your allies into forcing you to back off. Nice try though, probably sounded real witty to all the noobs who've been playing for 3 months.

  6. Back at it again with some economic interests. So Alex posted his enforcement of game rules on February 5th. This resulted in a mass exodus of GPWC, NPO, GOONS, and other alliances from PnW. By the end of February we began seeing a downward slope for raw resources. Coal: Almost 50% of the world supply gone Bauxite: Almost 50% of the world supply gone Food production stagnated since March Iron almost 50% used up Lead almost 3/4th of the supply vanished Cash hasnt recovered to pre-Feb 5th levels yet Oil : almost 50% gone Uranium supply is down 25% Basically tl;dr - It appears the market suppliers have all gone home. Aluminum appears to be the only resource being crafted at a reasonable rate, all the others are very slowly recovering. Our market is looking like it might be fooked for a long time in our post-apocalypse world.

  7. At this point, your argument comes down to... "But nokia did a bad, so EM shouldn't be punished at all". Even ignoring the non sequitur, there's several core issues with the logic of that idea. To parrot you a bit: not once has anyone said that Nokia should be immune, either. Mischaracterising their statements after blank quoting them is a cute manuver, but doesn't actually respond to the argument that they'd made, which is that Nokia should be punished... and has been. He sent 10b out to wherever, sure, but the punishment for his crime (buying money with IRL cash) is a nation reset... which has since happened. The letter of the law has been entirely satisfied. You could certainly make the argument that the 10b should be somehow recovered or otherwise further penalized, but that's not what you've been saying nor would such an argument have anything to do with EM whatsoever. Meanwhile, to parrot you a bit further, EM did not pay any price whatsoever. Is he deserving of immunity? You could make that argument, but not in the same breath that you claim Nokia somehow remains unpunished.

  11. Getting immunity from being banned surely means that ur squeaky cleen and didn't break the rules, you are beyond reproach; without vice. Jokes aside, so on a srs note; shut the frick up, bc you broke the rules, was going to get banned and that means you cheated. Having immunity doesn't change the facts. @Buck Turgidson sorry for taking the thread off-topic, please continue the retirement home drama

  12. Like this if you ever had to go pooop really bad but you were in a walmart so you are like omg I have to use the public restroom so you go into the restroom and someone is in the smaller stall and you take the bigger one and there is no lock on it and you're like whatever I'm going to poop my pants so you go in and you are doing your business and then you hear people coming in and out and you're like whatever bc going to the bathroom doesn't really bother you if you're in public so you're just scrolling on your phone on whatever app and letting it all go and then yous see feet at the stall door and then the door opens and there is a giant guy standing there in crocs staring at you and you look up from your phone and make eye contact and he's like omg i'm so sorry and you're like nah its fine man i'm just pooping and he just is like i'm so sorry and you're like its good and go back to scrolling on your phone and he's locked in some shock moment and then 30 seconds later he says sorry again and closes the door. Like this if you had that happen to you.

  13. As someone who used to moderate a forum with a "donate" function I can attest to the fact that this shit would occur in literally 20-30% of all banned users. People feel like they own you if they've paid you some money. It's disgusting tbh.
    2 points
  14. I did not, and have never, allowed people to pay me money in exchange for not being banned (or any benefit in terms of moderation consideration.) I don't even treat people who have donated in the past differently than non-donators (and you may be surprised to know the number of people who demand special treatment because they've donated $X in the past.)

  15. Imagine being in CoA, defending someone who cheated and profited off the game, only for that member to leave and go rogue on other people. The lack of foresight from some of these dummies is amazing. I know which alliance HS isn’t gonna defend next war lmao

  16. All I know is that raiding is super lucrative right now. Even small amounts of raws are worth the trouble now!
    1 point
  17. Npo, BK, and definitely GPWC had a large amount of lower tier nations, which are the main suppliers of raws. So when they left the game lost a massive portion of raw producers alongside an increase in demand for post war reasons, and the raw market blew up.

  23. They have been banned permanently, thank you.

  24. There's no evidence that either of those inactive nations are related to @Nokia Rokia. My guess is that "United Myanmar" is completed unrelated, "Nokia" is a karge corporation after all and it is not hard to believe someone could have used that name independently of Nokia Rokia. As for the other one, my guess is it was someone having a bit of fun making a fake nation. Like if someone made a nation with the leader name "FirwofKrommel" and then reported you for multis. Would that be damning evidence? If so, anyone could get anyone else banned pretty much at-will.

  28. Had Nokia not blown the lid, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED. Not only that, he already rerolled his nation, he punished himself, same with George. They both took it into their own hands to try and make amends with the community, all Elijah has done is offer a worthless apology, if anything, to cover his ass because there's precedent of him doing so, in this very incident, by deleting Discord logs and being uncooperative with Alex, until he was cornered into doing so. And regardless of all of this, it's irrelevant to the fact that Elijah still did wrong by the community, for breaking the rules, and then trying to cover his ass along the investigation process. His punishment is more than the reputation hit (which by the way, means nothing because he was widely infamous before this got unearthed), now, CoA are throwing themselves into the crossfire, letting their infrastructure burn away at the drop of nuclear warheads, all in defense of this cheater whose not been delivered due justice. Yes, the community has a reasonable expectation that alliances won't protect/defend cheaters or accomplices of, simply because they serve a valuable asset to said alliance. Just to be clear, accomplices are just as bad as the criminals (cheaters) that they aid. 04/23 02:19 am Your nation was embargoed by HeroofTime55 of New XGA for the reason listed of: Whiner. Laughable.

  29. We all know Nokia, EM, George, and some other(s?) in the NPO/BK/GoG coalition cheated, the 10 bil being deleted would punish people absolutely uninvolved with the cheating. There is even precedent for this, as with the Nova Riata cheating, Alex did not go and start reversing trades that occurred between Nova Riata and other parties. IRT Alex sticking to his word, that word should not have been offered to begin with. If anything, a reduced punishment, not full immunity. However, Alex made his word, he wants to keep it, fine, that's his prerogative even if I disagree. The big problem I have, is CoA members, like yourself, defending EM and protecting him from being dealt community retribution, that Alex failed to deliver. You're not only shooting your own feet, but creating PR headaches for your allies, all to defend this cheater because he's an asset to your alliance.

  32. In addition to the fact that many producers of refined resources import their raws, it is also possible no to be able to produce enough even if you make both natively. I have a bauxiteworks and max aluminum refineries, and even with max bauxite extractors I still have a net negative usage.

  37. Nokia/George at least had some kind of consequence to their actions (self-inflicted). EM has not received or done anything to atone for what he has done. And that’s without the context of his past behavior and actions. Do you really think Nokia and George have that many allies? Hell no. Do you really think people feel threatened by/care about CoA? Same answer. EM has many people that he has annoyed and wronged over the years. The fact is is that the perception of EM (by the overwhelming majority of vocal leaders in the community) is that he has been cheating for quite some time to get where he is at. It’s not political. It’s not a scheme. There’s a reason why a large majority of people (regardless of the sphere) feel the way they do about this situation. Honestly, I like/get along with EM as a person - but he’s also long been a shade-ball in this game and it’s a bad foundation for him to go without punishment for his actions.

  41. Players of Orbis, With the recent tsunami of pledges I find it necessary to make this post. Make your pledge her to stop virtue signalling because it frankly does not change a damn thing. Those who cheat will cheat and those who do toxic shit will do toxic shit. Those who pledge in here not to do so would not do so irrespective of whether they make a pledge. And so, this entire thing is reduced to a masturbatory exercise. Back to you, crikey.

  46. If I may introduce you to Stratton Oakmont, which liquidated and returned its shares' value directly to its investors: Now, to address the OP... 1) Shares: If you buy shares in a bank then you must demand 2% weekly interest of the cost of those shares, so if you purchased 100m in value of shares you want 2m a week return on that investment of shares. Any bank that offers you a return in cash of 2/3 or half of what they make in gross revenue is either a very risky investment or a ponzi scheme. Investors gain wealth when their share value increases too, and their share values ain't gonna increase much if the bank is paying out everything it earns in dividends. Plus, it leaves the bank less flexibility in times of low loan demand, or when sudden problems happen, like customers deleting/defaulting on their loans. Banks are not magical printing presses. 2a) Savings account, make it clear they can not loan your cash out or make a profit from your saving account, make sure you give them no more than 24 hours to send your full saving account if they fail then they are using your money to support loans, making money off your hard work and you get nothing. What incentive is there for the bank to hold someone's money if they cannot use it? For precisely this reason, none of the banks I've been part of have ever operated savings accounts as part of normal business. And when we did, we were the ones charging the account owner for our responsibility in holding and guaranteeing it. if they default the likely hood is you will lose out not the bank who has no skin in the game. What I think you mean is that the BANKER has no skin in the game. Obviously if the bank loses money, the bank loses money. It IS the skin that is in the game. You also seem to be laboring under the assumption that specific deposit accounts are used to fund specific loans. Now, I can't speak for other banks, but no bank I've ever been a part of did this - investors (not depositors - see above) are pooled into a general cash fund, and from that fund out go the loans. This actually reduces risk in the same way that buying an index fund on the stock market reduces risk - you have inbuilt diversification. If other banks wanna do fiddley bits with the accounts, that's their doing, but I would like to take this moment to remind people that complexity is almost never the friend of an honest man - it exists to obfuscate and create loopholes and opportunities. Now many people such as micro who cares about the name sold 12 billion in shares, however, loaned out 6 billion and the other 6 billion did a harry potter and disappeared. If that bank closed its doors today, all investors and shareholders lose out those running the bank do not care they made more in the last however months than they have in the time they joined us all. But it is not just small micro banks you have to be careful of its the whale banks also, let's look at Seb and Sphinx two of the biggest names in banking. Seb has had what three failed banks and every time it has always been someone else's fault, he did no wrong. Still, every time a bank failed, he got a new city, how did that happen, guess Harry potter returned for Seb. However, little old man Seb is not the only one who seems to be on the winning side of failed banks; Sphinx also seems to find a pot of gold at the end of every failed bank. When Rado left this world, it was reported he stole billions, and no one would get any interest from the bank, however a pot of gold and a new city for our boy Sphinx. And I would like to take this opportunity to remind people, once again... NEVER INVEST IN A BANK THAT IS NOT OPEN AND CLEAR ABOUT ITS FINANCES AND IS FINE WITH DISCUSSING THEM IN A WAY THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND. Just don't do it. There is no reason from the bank's point of view to be secretive about anything (other than occasional customers who wish their names to be hidden) unless they have something to hide. Stratton Oakmont kept 100% free and open books the entirety of its existence down to the general journal in which every. Single. Transaction. Was recorded. Amazingly, nothing bad ever resulted from doing so. So take it from someone who has been in the mud, who has been part of and owned many banks, unless you are running the bank you do nothing but make someone else rich off your money. SO DEMAND YOUR MONEY BACK, SELL THE DEAD SHARES. Unfortunately, this is largely true. Ever since a certain very large and influential bank drove interest rates down to the 3 - 4% region, banking has not been terribly lucrative given the amount of work it takes to run one honestly. That's not to say there is no profit to be made, but I fear many peoples' expectations are far too high when they invest. I own a bank with over 10 billion out in loans, I had 15 billion out, but as I am closing my bank down, I am building cities. As I have seen the light and the error of my ways, BANKS are just taking from you to make themselves rich nothing more. Look at the more prominent names of banking Sphinx, Seb and even myself, 40 plus cities, how many cities you on? Dishonest banks don't return on their investments, honest ones do. Most nations in mid tier are better off investing in themselves than in banks, even just strictly from a return perspective even assuming the bank doesn't collapse or suffer from defaults. However, the implication that the bankers should not be profiting from running banks is absurd. Running one well is a fair amount of work. Bankers are not charities. If you're not getting paid for the effort of record keeping, safeguarding, networking, finding investors, dealing with complaints, and working with customers, why the heck would you even do it? Speaking as one of the first successful private bankers in Orbis, it's a load of work and it's not that fun after the first year of novelty wears off. You bet I made a healthy profit from the bank I ran. But so did my investors. Side note, if you need a loan refuse to pay more than 2%, if everyone did this, the banks will have no choice but to drop interest rates, unlike my bank where all the cash is mine, all other banks have to keep investors and shareholders happy and for the most part, have to pay them weekly. THIS gives you the power to demand better interest rates. So go forth now, and any new loans refuse to pay more than 2%, watch how the micro banks fail and the whale banks dry up. Stop making other people rich and only think of yourself. This is facile. Banks have expenses. People default. Resource brokering occasionally goes bad. And as I said above, a reasonable profit is expected from all the work being put into the bank. If you demand rates that low, banks will just close. I would estimate almost all the banks will close, because even if the banker owns 100% of the bank (and he might, since there would be no point in getting investors since you claim investors should be paid 2% of their investment back every week.... even though the loans being made apparently would be getting 2% for the bank?), 2% return on their capital, less expenses (which can be very substantial) is not worth it. So, good job killing a mechanic that has deepened the game's appeal and accelerated the growth of alliances and nations from the ready flow of capital. I'm starting to wonder how good your bank could possibly have been if this is the extent of your understanding of how banks operate.
