  2. Hello. I know how annoying it is to run the yearly awards, everyone complaining and hating on any effort you put in. I like that this year we got a little creative and let the alliances have reps to vote on things separately, that was a good addition I think. However, the number one complaint every year seems to be that things turn into a popularity contest. After seeing some of the (preliminary) results, I can definitely see where they're coming from. The best war declaration winner (as of this text) has one broken image, one MS-Paint photoshopped image, and one sentence - just as an example I think it's obvious this was chosen because of the context instead of the content and I'm definitely not salty that my masterpiece is in last place. There are multiple other examples but I'm using this one because it made me salty enough to post lmao. Next year, for whoever runs things, we should really consider a "curated" section where we get a small group of [biased] people to choose content that is actually worth winning an award. No offense to the literary genius who typed up a sentence for Hedge Money's DoW. I also noticed quite a few vote-splits that probably just made it in due to democracy - something that could be addressed better in a curated awards section. Special shoutout to Krampus who should've won best gov, Murtaza who should win best raider, borg for best new community addition, and Partisan for most influential despite anyone's best efforts... And Adrienne, Changeup, and others who worked really hard this year to make the awards happen. Y'all did great.

  7. Hi, I would just like to say firstly I am sorry for said picture. I would instantly remove it had I been notified or warned or even given the chance. the last thing I would want to do is offend anyone and if I have I sincerly unreservedly apologise, i have had time to read the rules again, whilst I have been banned, and in the custom content section it does not list anything about graphic content. It says I should not post long images or images that may trigger epilepsy. For which you would get a strike. I've played the game for 2 years or nearly 2 years with no issue before now. Once again I am sorry im not trying to argue with anyone if I've missed something I would like to be able to set that right

  8. I unironically voted for Alex's NPO cheating scandal post as best propaganda because there was no better propaganda this year lmao. I think categories like best milcom / econ / ia / FA / etc should be removed as they're prone to either extreme bias or extreme ignorance. How can anyone who isn't in Guardian or GOB ever know how well their milcom does? You can't. So those votes are inherently a popularity vote or at best they're a "who won the war" vote. Yeah you thought I was joking when I said I literally would not have gotten things done without you last year on the awards... It's a boatload of work and I don't blame any of the organizers for any slips. This year is one of the best run that I can remember, but I think we just need to consider a major shift instead of a minor tweak. See below... touché lmao I think there should be a community element to the community awards - that being said, I think the community-voteable categories should be extremely slimmed down. Things like alliance of the year, player of the year, and highlight/controversy of the year should be publicly available I think. As mentioned though, slimming down categories would cut down on work for those running the show but also free up people to make memes, campaign around a bit, chat it up, etc. Another thing I think the awards suffer from is the post-war / post-holiday lull in activity. We should consider making this a summer / spring / fall affair.

  10. I saw the image in question, which I won't link for obvious reasons, but I'll assume the people in question have shared it or it's still on the nation. A reverse image search will turn up a story related to a Nigerian murder. The details of the body are quite graphic, and on first sight, I assumed it was real. However, a discussion with some other friends unrelated to accused brought up that it was "obviously fake", given that a headless body should have either blood on the clothes or be in a pool of blood. I think this one is a little too close to call, but I would say that real or not, it was an honest mistake by the accused, who could mistake it as "obviously fake", and not be doing it out of malice. There appears to be no rule against morbid themes either.

  12. I mean best fighter for example is literally nothing but raiders and then theo, lol. There's STILL Alex nominations because people think they're funny or clever (hi, you know you are! You're neither, sincerely - everyone) and then there's some that just don't make sense. Guardian made the cut for milcom but then gets basically no votes? I get why they aren't getting votes, Guardian and Grumpy milcom together and have members well beyond experienced enough to not really need an actual department to direct them, it's a bit silly to even nominate them at all though. People giving reasons would be helpful, it might also be a manpower thing, auditing nominations and making sure they make any actual logical sense at all is time consuming, and as always risk to bias. But like, TCW, in the run for alliance of the year? C'mon now 😛

  13. I think the work put into the awards is overall really good - the process makes sense and would generally be deemed fair. It's really hard to get around the bias and popularity side of things. The alliances with more members will obviously vote for themselves where they can, and also purposely snub those they might be at odds with. I think that's also somewhat the challenge of one vote per top 50/60 AA - I think the representative will generally vote for those they are allied to, to support an ally versus who may actually be most deserving. Thus, a bloc with more alliances would more likely have the favorable outcome in the votes. Additionally, we do have vested interests in the outcome. If my rival is up for best alliance or best for new players, etc - that's propaganda to be used by them down the line if they win, so you might vote against them, even if they are most deserving. It's human nature and you can't really remove that aspect in how people vote, but I do think you'll continue to find the results of the representative vote lean more towards AAs/members in blocs with more ties, and the general public vote towards alliances with larger membership just due to voting for yourself/friends. I think many categories the popularity contest works just fine - like Best Member, Funniest player, best nation page, a lot of the forum stuff, etc - where people are perhaps less likely to vote in "party lines". But when it comes to the main alliance or player awards, knowing which AA is AA of the year or most powerful or who the best raiders are, etc - it seems that could potentially be more objective instead of subjective. In a perhaps ideal situation there would be a neutral panel that would review actual resumes or metrics (this person raided x amount of loot, this AA had this war performance, this AA's score raised/fell this much, etc) and come up with a less democratic selection process, taking out the biases of people voting party lines. That's a bit idealistic though, as true neutral observers in a game like this would be difficult. Perhaps a bit of rambling above, but I think the process of gathering nominations and voting to bring it to a manageable final vote works fairly well, but there are certainly a number of head-scratchers in the final options for a few of the categories as a result of bloc biases it would seem. Viewing it like the Oscars, as an example, many of these awards would be what you'd see announced and not aired on the broadcast, but the few major awards perhaps in the future there could be a little write-up as to some resumes as to why they were nominated and what might be considered (stats, opinions, etc) and have them be more prestigious to win (badge to add in-game from Alex, etc) - that's a ton more work though, so definitely would understand passing on that - but it is a brainstorm/thoughts for future thread

  17. DoE While patrolling the borders during the latest great war, The Immortals, The Fighting Pacifists, and Soldiers of Liberty were forced out of The Swamp by millions of radioactive ogres. All were victims of nuclear fallout from war. The ogres had doubled in size from the radiation, their skins melted off their bones, and only blood quenched their new thirst. The Immortals, The Fighting Pacifists, and Soldiers of Liberty fought off many. But, with every ogre killed, two more took its place. They were pushed back further and further from the swamp. A new era of ogre surrounded the swamp and created a barrier. With no way to return, these heroes became refugees in Orbis. For a long time, The Immortals, The Fighting Pacifists, and Soldiers of Liberty trudged through the muck of a deep, deep swamp. Boots deep. Boots covered in earth and water... and blood. These are the realities of war. At the edge of the swamp, past all the thick and thistle, is a place where the tree line grows thin. Beyond those tree lines are sand dunes. Past the damp and murky forest full of vegetations, donkeys, and ogres, the land dries up and turns into endless sandy hills. After days of hostile travel, These heroes’ exodus from the tree line was met with hot sand under foot. The sun blistered them head on. Nothing but arid, bone-dried wastelands as far as their eyes could see. Their shadows. The war. Behind them. It was said a promised land could be found in the vast desert. A paradise lost. A sanctuary. An oasis. Off in the distance, a vague tree line of bright greens appeared. A new home was on the horizon. They knew they would arrive soon. They would arrive by morning. When night fell, The Immortals, The Fighting Pacifists, and Soldiers of Liberty looked up to the stars to guide them. Gazing at the endless heavens, a peculiar thing occurred. A supernova of electrifying colors ripped and stretched across the sky. A rift near the quacksphere had opened. An Aurora spaceship tore through the sky. Thousands of duck-like dronecrafts were in pursuit and firing at the spaceship. A loud explosion echoed over the desert as the portal closed and shifted the sands of time. Aurora fought off the drones with aerial maneuvers never seen on Orbis. Lasers firing in every direction. Drones fell from the sky like wounded ducks. The last drones flew into the thrusters of the ship and detonated. The ship’s propellers erupted and the spaceship began to plummet to the earth. The hull burned and the Aurorians inside braced for impact with the sandy knolls. The Aurorians smashed into the dunes with a force that rumbled all of the desert. Bruised and battered, the Aurorians stumbled from the wreckage and were met with a surprise. The Immortals, The Fighting Pacifists, and Soldiers of Liberty were waiting outside. They extended their hands, “Come with us.” Aurora gathered what remaining supplies they had and began their own exodus into the long night. Under twilight, sounds traveled quicker than they. These heroes heard the distinct sounds of axes chopping wood. Off in the distance, a growing fire illuminated a lone tree with great roots and amputated limbs. Purple-folk danced about and fanned the flames higher. Branch after branch piled on. The tree was now a naked pillar. The fire their commonwealth and covenant. “Good evening weary travelers! Join us by the fire and have a drink from our bottles of water,” The United Purple Nation cheerfully declared as they extended out their bottles, “You look parched.” The heroes took the bottles and drank. “This isn’t water!” said The Fighting Pacifists. “This is wine!” said The Soldiers of Liberty. “Sweet nectar of the Gods!” said The Immortals. “ Space juice!” said Aurora. “Why, of course! What else would be in a water bottle?” said United Purple Nations. Well said, they all nodded in agreement. “What brings you to these parts?” asked the heroes. “Rumors of paradise,” said United Purple Nations. “The rumors are true,” exclaimed the heroes, “Join us. We know the way.” As morning dawned, a rooster cock-a-doodle-dooed in the distance. Over the next dune, the trees grew tall and green. The water shimmered so clear you could see into the future. All sorts of animals and vegetations were about. This was the oasis. The rumors were true. The Immortals, The Fighting Pacifists, Soldiers of Liberty, Aurora, and United Purple Nations began to unpack their things. Salvation was here. Members from each alliance grabbed their instruments and began to play and sing, “Don’t Look Back In Anger”. Soon after, everyone began singing and a new bloc was formed. They determined that those who rest at the Oasis will protect one another, vigilant to desert raiders and any who seek to harm them. Weapons were forged, spaceships rebuilt, and grapes were stomped for more wine. It was decided that the lush greenery of the Oasis shall shelter all those who seek refuge from the harshness of the outside Orbis world. This is the Oasis. It’s a place where the limits of reality are your own imagination.

  22. Time to drop the big dick bud. EDIT: Are we trying to match genders on the roles? If not, I see Adrienne more of a Jon Stark than Daenarys, maybe Ygritte if I had to pick a female character for her. I wouldn't even say Roquentin should be Night King either, I can't remember the dude's name but the dick-ish guy calling for permarolling/war till one side surrendered unconditionally who was always clinging around Roq would be that. Kinda leaning on Roq being Petyr Baelish. Mostly because he could be likable, but trustworthy? Eh. Not 100% on that pick though. Kastor wouldn't be Robb Stark, I see him more of a Oberyn Martell, Daario Naharis, or Ramsay Bolton (However you feel about him). Memph would be Eddard Stark. Impero would be Tywin Lannistar. If I had to dig through history of PnW. I'd have to think on this.

  23. As is becoming tradition, KT has made a new New Years Resolution! We would go paperless if we could, but the current moronic war mechanics simply don't make it viable. Thank God there are other ways to wreak havoc! During my 7-month spiritual retreat, I learned to better align myself with my monke nature. It seems that a few of my old friends, who spent the year over in Syndisphere, have had a similar experience at the short end of yet another global dogpile! I thought we were done with those? After IQ - thank God - left this holy place, did you people not swear not to repeat their sins? Did you indeed decide to fill the power vacuum and take their place? That is not the path to heaven. That is not the path to profit. That is not the path to... uhhh... celestial phenomenons? Not our path. How does the saying go? You give a monkey a stick, he'll inevitably beat another monkey to death with it? Well, I am a monkey with a REALLY big stick. And I brought friends. Please meet them: "Recently we met a man with a strange name and another who calls himself a whale. Though interesting characters, their easygoing nature was refreshing following our brush with a more violent group. They were headed in the same direction, and we decided these would be ideal traveling companions. And with that Eclipse continues on its journey to embrace monke, with our new friends, KT and the Company." - Hughes "For Christmas, Patrick made a wish to be granted a horsecock. 25. I am fine voting for other people in different alliances, but when I don't know any of the choices I usually just default to who I know (if I have to vote) or just ignore that choice. Obviously I know why Roq would be a villain, Partisan making best OC posts, or DtC have huge e-peen, but many others I don't know anything. Most of my own nominations as well would be Oblivion/Rose focused and many others on the forums would not know why I nominated them either. If there was an excerpt about what people did to get nominated I could then choose who I thought best should win. Kind of how the best War Dec/forum post suggestions works. However I think keeping everything open to public and not private is still the best option for final results. I don't think I would be a fan on curated awards but it really depends on how the awards would be implemented specifically in the end.

  27. What were you doing (or trying to do): Attck a nation on test after declaring What happened (describe thoroughly please): While testing out various aspects of the game I came across a peculiar issue after declaring on one specific nation. I would go to issue an attack (whether it was ground, air or naval, the same things happened) the attack proceeded as normal but when I clicked go back to war page after a successful attack, no maps had been spent, no military unites used up and resistance remained the same. After ruling out that it was the computer I was on, the browser (firefox initially) I was using, any browser add-ons, my vpn ect I logged off, then back on again, issue persisted. I logged off, rebooted my pc logged back on and issue persisted. I tried using different browsers, chrome, and chronium) I tried using a different computer, same problem, tried using the mobile phone to do the attack, same problem. I discovered the only attack I could do was a nuclear one, so I did that. after 12 maps I attempted another nuclear attack and the problem popped up again. I eventually traced the probelm to the names in some of the nation's cities. some were named City xx, and come were named Cítч xx. the ones named Cítч xx I couldnt even nuke, the ones named City xx I could, so I determined that the use of the odd characters in the cities named Cítч were the problem and not on my end. Link to page: nation with the odd city names https://test.politicsandwar.com/nation/id=196908 Any other relevant information: After discovering this bug I thought, wow, if this bug existed on live, it could make a nation invincible, they could attack anyone they wanted and no one could attack them back.... this is a MAJOR game breaker IMO. I have not tested it on live as to do so even as a test could be seen as exploiting a bug. so I hand this off to you Screenshot: (if available)

  30. Yeah, I've spent last night and this morning looking through the nominations and considering things and as I mentioned before, I do think the main issue behind the complaints came from opening up the nominations to everyone. Just to be clear, I'm not saying being more inclusive with the nominations was the issue but rather that because of that, there were so many more nominations that Top 5 wasn't enough anymore with some categories and it did become what you mentioned here, so that's one possible avenue for improvement. I very much still feel that shortlisting is a good idea because many, if not most, of these categories would contain 20+ nominations otherwise and that would make an already long poll all the longer and more inaccessible to a majority of players here, given that that's another regular complaint that's made. Considering that the individuals involved in that process cover such a wide base of alliances and interests, the group itself doesn't create any more significant a bias than the general player base does but it does equalize large member alliances such as TKR, Rose, and t$ with smaller member alliances like Aurora, The Coal Mines, and Alpha, which was the goal. That being said though, I would be in support of expanding to include more than just the Top 5 nominations and after looking at things, I believe that would have resolved the vast majority of complaints made already this year. And I do see their point, I think we simply got the Top # wrong because we didn't realize how receiving more nominations would change things. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say. I was also considering something similar to what you suggested here as a check on the nominations. Where possible, we tried to combine things that were similar and make sense of sometimes somewhat confusing nominations, but obviously missed some things that would have been good to do, like your suggestion regarding combining NPO/GPWC. Having a few individuals with eyes unmarred by days of staring at spreadsheets could be beneficial for catching things we missed. And then I'll likely change up the schedule a bit because the way we sorted it this year did not at all leave enough time to be able to really spend significant amounts of time doing much else besides sticking to the process. I didn't realize just how much additional work opening up nominations to the general public would be and a day and a half turn around from nominations to shortlisting was barely enough to complete compiling all the nominations and was only achieved because I didn't do anything else besides nominations those days. It turned out to be a bit too ambitious a timeline that didn't allow the time to really look at the shortlisted nominations making it through and make adjustments mid-process if necessary. Anyways, these are very much still preliminary thoughts so definitely open to further feedback and consideration but I do hope it gives some clarity at least on how things went behind the scenes this year and shows you that we are actually listening to and considering the comments made to continue to improve on this process.

  33. Helloooooooo, Orbis! Welcome to the final voting for the 2020 PnW Academy Awards! Before we begin, I'd like to quickly note that the following four categories were moved from alliance to community simply due to there being a limit on the forums of how many questions can be asked in a single thread: - Best Treaty Announcement - Best Declaration of War - Best Alliance Ad - Best Propaganda Post You can find links to each of the polls below. These polls will remain open until 11:59 pm Orbis time on January 14th. -Alliance Categories -Player Categories -Community Categories -Fourth Poll, contains missing/broken categories. Please remember that there are both popular voting (the threads above) and an alliance representative voting portion taking place simultaneously on our discord. If you'd like to refresh yourself on how the entire process works, we detailed it in our kick-off thread here (https://forum.politicsandwar.com/index.php?/topic/30330-2020-pnw-academy-awards/). Lastly, if you'd like to join our discord and receive updates there as the voting progresses, you can do so here (https://discord.gg/hWrtY2AtC3). The final awards ceremony will take place in the RON server (https://discord.gg/ZgAtEzx) on January 15th at update Orbis time (7 pm EST) with hosts Zigbigadorlou and Krampus. The results will be published here on the OWF shortly thereafter. Thank you and happy voting!

  34. IMO upvotes have never been an accurate measure of post quality on any forum board or social media website ever, but I do think that your post (and all nominations) should've been voted on because it makes very little sense for a small group of nominees to determine a shortlist that the entirety of Orbis will have a much wider collective experience with (hence my earlier suggestion), and then if all the people who upvoted your post vote for you, let the chips fall that way
