  2. The Holy Sea was built on the founding principles of friendship and trust. We were built to be a place where new futures could be built, where the past could stay there, and where we have each others' backs. As a smaller, “micro” bloc, we have always recognized that we are not capable of winning all wars. We have always seen, known, that there will be times where an enemy will come to our shores and we will not succeed. In these times, we would fight together, give it our effort together, burn together, deal together, and grow back together. Today, Sanctuary’s leadership failed on all cylinders. In the face of attacks by DR and RIE, they sought peace separately from the bloc. When first attacked, Black Skies, doing what an ally should do, began milling up to defend a member of the bloc. Black Skies is now fighting on two fronts in defense of their allies in The Holy Sea. Sanctuary requested that the Lazarus Order ask for terms of surrender, and after direct disagreement that this was the best course of action, at the request of Sanctuary, 770 went to DR and RIE and asked for those terms. Lazarus, against its own self-interests, put the interests of the bloc and allies first. Today, in the absence of their leader, and being led by their second in command, Sanctuary accepted terms of surrender and notified the bloc. A friend who stands in your limelight and hides when you’re in the shadows is not a friend but a parasite. On the grounds of breach of faith, trust, and responsibility in such a grotesque fashion as it eliminates any doubt as to the character of Sanctuary’s leadership, 770 motioned, and Black Skies concurred, that they be immediately severed from our bloc.

  4. The War between Sanctuary and RIE + DR has come to end. Due to the fact that Sanctuary was not the target of the war, we have agreed to surrender terms for Sanctuary. Which are as follow: Sanctuary agrees to publicly announce the power of the raccoon pope and his superiority over the 770 priests. Sanctuary agrees to return and remain in their peacetime standard of military readiness, of 5042 for a month. Exceptions may be made with the permission of Dawn Rising’s leadership. Both sides agree to declare no new wars; however, existing wars may be peaceful or continue until they are finished. Sanctuary agrees to remove all Black Skies members currently hiding in the Sanctuary. Sanctuary agrees not to help 770 or BS in their war against Dawn Rising + Rakatan Infinite Empire or its allies. Nor may they attack Dawn Rising + Rakatan Infinite Empire or its allies unless attacked first. Signed Ugosal, Head of Fa and Heir to Sanctuary Arcturus Black, Heir of Dawn Rising MH Speedy, Rakatan Infinite Empire

  8. Hey everyone, This is Alex here, creator and Admin of Politics and War. I'm setting a new goal of writing a monthly update to everyone about what's going on with the game. I don't know that it will necessarily be anything fancy, but it is a way that I can be more open and transparent about progress in the game. I'm also aiming for a less formal tone here--largely I'm just presenting my thoughts on the current state of the game to you all. I originally wrote this as an email to send out to all current players. But I'm also posting it here to open it up for comments. So, let's dive in. What's on the docket for Politics and War in September and beyond? Well, for those of you that don't know, I did start working with a part-time developer back last year named Payal. She doesn't play the game and isn't on Discord, so you haven't really been exposed to her, but she has been really helpful in getting a lot of things implemented in the game. She's also definitely a better programmer than I am. *insert Alex sucks as coding joke here* 😂 Anyway, she is working with me on building out a new set of alliance positions and permissions. This is going to be a cool system that keeps the existing default positions, but lets you as an alliance leader add up to 6 more (total of 10) and customize the permissions for each position. This has been a long requested change, and I think it will really improve alliance management and roleplay which is great. We're also working on setting up a treasure trading system, where you can propose an offer in-game to buy a treasure from someone. There's a lot more to this, but back when I explicitly wrote into the rules that it would be a rules violation to coordinate treasure transfer (through war) I promised I would implement a mechanism for actually transferring treasures not via war. Well, that should be coming soon, another long awaited change. Behind the scenes we've also been working on a new draft of the Game Rules. After pitching these a few weeks ago and getting some feedback, I think we're ready to move ahead. Largely this is a logistical change - instead of having a “3 strikes and you're out” system, we are going to have a “100 Moderation Points and you're out” system, where each rules violation can get a different number of moderation points. Warnings will also automatically expire, which was another frequent request/complaint about the old system. The rules change in itself isn't a huge one, but Payal is helping me build out a really robust back-end to build in a lot of these things and make moderation work far easier. My hope is that getting all of this done will really free up a lot of my time when I'm working on Politics and War, most of which actually gets spent going through messages, reports, support tickets, and other general moderation duties. I'd love to get back to spending more time actually developing content and improvements for the game! The last thing that I wanted to mention in this email is that early this month we celebrated Politics and War's 7th anniversary, which is amazing that the game has been around for so long now. For those of you that don't know, I actually created Politics and War when I was in high school - all by myself and self taught. I had no idea it was going to turn into such a popular game or last for this long. Politics and War is a huge part of my life, and more-or-less my career at this point. I've always loved making games, and in particular had an interest in government and economics, so really getting to do this is like a dream come true. Most days don't feel like work at all, and I am really fortunate that you all have contributed so much into building the community that makes this game what it is. Without all the players and alliances, discord servers, player-run banks and other institutions, Politics and War would just be a funny old website. Thank you so much for the countless hours you have all put into Politics and War. Sincerely, Alex

  9. No, I said that Blackwater or Rosesphere alone couldn't beat Hollywood in the high and whale tiers in 1v1, not Grumpy alone. Again what you're saying here is just complete nonsense, Grumpy would never fight alone if t$ or Rose blitzed them, the rest of Hollywood would help them. Hollywood has 78 c30s+ (19 TKR, 30 Grumpy, 25 Guardian, 3 tO, 1 BK) as well, that's more than Rose or BW. But the problem isn't at all about c30+, using this as an argument is incredibly stupid, there is a huge difference between a c30 and a c40 nowadays. 85% of Rose and t$ whales are c30-35 while over half of Grumpy (about 15 nations) is c40+. You'd have a point with the old planes-only war meta, but with the new war meta that nerfed updeclares asf & boosted downdeclares, a 3 well-coordinated c40s can easily beat 6 c35s without any problem, this is one of the reasons why Hollywood beat Roasis Inc in gw18. It's not normal that it should take 2 weeks to pin Grumpy in the first place, and even in the best of the scenarios Blackwater or Rosesphere alone would never be able to fully pin GG with Hollywood. It's not about winning nor losing, it's about giving GG whales a beating they largely deserve after methodically beating the whales of the rest of the game one by one to take the edge. I already said it but literally the only way to properly beat GG right away is to have Blackwater & Rose collaborate together, do you find that normal ? Do you think it's fun to be a whale not in GG and see your nation being rolled to ashes every single time you fight GG ? And then spend billions and billions to rebuild post-war while GG whales lose almost nothing and keep growing like weed ? Well, I can tell you that it's not. I don't care much about FA stuff & justifications, I'm not into such bullshit. This war just has a logical purpose behind it that not only serves Blackwater & Rose interests but also the entire game which is to not have one group of alliances dominating the highest tier of the game and snowball until it's too late to stop them. And eh, your CB in gw18 wasn't really much better ya know ? This was quite literally an attempt at dogpiling Rosesphere, you had more numbers + blitz advantage + militarization advantage + overall competency. The war at the very beginning before Oasis & half of Mystery joined was nowhere near fair.

  10. Alan, in your own words, you straight up accused me and fabricated a leak of signing SMC calling them bank heisters and scammers. Stating tfp condones having allies who took advantage of people. I couldn’t help but notice your 770 treaty these days. What is black skies vetting process? Does black skies condone working with and protecting known (and thalmoria convicted) bank and market scammers?

  16. “The cost of ROI is always high, but The Syndicate has always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission” -Snek On Moon For years, the Syndicate has prided itself on the path it has struck for itself. A path that does not veer off towards degeneracy nor complacency. It is this path, this legacy, that the Syndicate strives to uphold, one that prizes hard work, fair play, and a world in balance. Contrary to this path, leaders and alliances across Orbis would seek to disrupt peace, take the easy way out, and throw our world into ruin. For over a year, such an alliance has existed unchallenged within Orbis. However, the bill has come due, and it is time for them to pay it. It is my duty to inform the world that a state of conflict exists between the Syndicate and Hollywood. This is not a conflict we enter lightly; we are aware of the power that some in this bloc hold, but it has been the duty of all Chief Global Strategists to speak truth to power, and to bring the pain when necessary. Under SRD’s own admission, Blackwater would have been the target of Guns N’ Roses, had it not been for the still smoldering flames on the treaty between TKR and the Syndicate. Perhaps you can chalk this up to the grandstanding of one who resides in a retirement home, but all indicators pointed to SRD looking to make good on his threats toward us. This became clear to see when members of the Hollywood bloc joined forces with the Knights Templar to aggressively attack our friends in the Legion and our allies in Eclipse. These provocations might go unpunished by lesser men, but we are not such men. We will defend our interests and our allies. May admin have mercy on your whales, for we shall have none. “Snekmen, at times like these our capacity to retaliate must be and has to be massive, to deter all forms of aggression.” – Snek On Moon

  27. imma be brutally honest here and probably earn myself some downvotes: even if there was some better communication, ppl love to hate on BS so much that they'd probably hit them and not care regardless. That and CTO will probably hit every organism that breathes at this point when they can't find ppl to statpad off of in the global. I do think that a lot of issues that befall BS originate from some mixture of unfounded pride and defeatism translating into self-fulfilling prophecy, and that their choice of allies is, let's just say... questionable, but I will at the least not hesitate to give props that they are at least willing to defend their allies, which most alliances honestly cannot say.

  30. What's claimed on the OWF as reasons for wars is all stagecraft for the masses. So while people say secret treaty this, secret treaty that. Really its revenge for this, or revenge for that, or prevent power consolidation/weaken potential opponents. These are all fine goals for CBs and politics drive all of it.
    1 point
  31. This statement is correct. You shouldn't be able to win a dog pile, if you have failed at politics to the point of getting dog piled, you should lose. If you are able to politically maneuver your opponents into a dog pile, its pretty ridiculous if the game mechanics are such that your opponents have a shot at winning a fight.

  34. So lets address CB's. Why do we give a !@#$ what we use as a reason for war in this current meta? We don't gain anything from war, no reparations, no imposed sanctions or restrictions. Nothing, not a single benefit at all. Literally the only use for CB's at this point in time is to give people on the forums a topic to argue over, seriously it's kinda pathetic. Since you guys struggle so much, here are some simple CB's for you all to use: - Cut down to size (You are growing too fast or are already too big, we want you to bleed) - Humiliate (for you guys with old grudges you want to settle but have no valid reason, just fight you chickens) - Containment (You are doing something that is pissing everyone off, stop it) (this can be warmongering, unjustified actions or overbearing attitudes in past peace conferences) - Ideology conflict (for alliances with RP reasons to have conflict, FA actions or alliance culture) - Retribution (Justification against people who are housing players alliances are holding a grudge against. This could be traitors, spies, unjustified raiding done either directly by the alliance or indirectly through means such as leaving and joining raiders temporarily. Or hunting people who have unpaid debts or stole large sums of items/money) Obviously you should expand upon these few concepts. Try and actually format it correctly, explain the reason why you are going to war, if you have any. Then give a list of steps the others could potentially take to prevent the war (to open negotiations early, even if they are extreme), then give a method of how you plan to reach your goal. If we are trying to beat up Grumpy are you going to just hit them for a week and ditch or do you plan to nuke every one of their cities to rubble? Clearly outlining these methods will give you a diplomatic advantage in negotiations as it demonstrates the planning and effort put into this war before it even started. An alliance will be less likely to continue a war if you can give a detailed plan of what your end goals are, being all mysterious about whether a war will last 2 days or 6 months only makes diplomacy harder, an end goal is far more useful. Feel free to discuss any of the stupid shit I have said, I just want to see this crap actually dealt with and not just left with the shit we have which is basically: "Oh we thought they should be punished" or "Well we gave a reason in paragraph 7 of our monologue" TLDR: For CB's: Give a reason, Expand upon reason, Explain what your end goal is, Why it can't be reached peacefully, how do you plan to achieve your goal.

  35. But it is our fault for being boring on the RP side of things. We can't play a game called politics and war and then blame the game mechanics for all our alliances having shitty politics.

  36. Not our fault PnW mechanics are both poorly integrated with one another and poorly designed.

  37. What the !@#$ does this even mean? Grumpy is the only alliance in the game that can't participate in the War part of Politics and War? If we fight, we aren't "peaceful" when we sit out, we are making the game worse by growing while everyone else fights... y'all gotttttta get the story straight about us

  41. The following is a combination of old updates that were never put in, changes based on feedback/suggestions. Please feel free to provide feedback and suggestions to alternative options. Try to limit additional content beyond the scope of what is in this thread. Thank you. Trading Treasures Treasures can be directly traded between players. Treasures cannot be traded while either nation has an active offensive or defensive war. A nation with a treasure already in it cannot trade for another treasure. City/Project Timers New City timers are not effected by projects. New Protects have their own timer of 10 days (120 turns) City timer resets are reduced by 1 credit to 3 credits. Project timer resets cost 1 credit. New Projects Research and Development Center Effect: This project provides two project slots (net: one additional project slot) Cost Cash: $50,000,000 Food: 100,000 Aluminum: 5,000 Logistics Center Effect: Opens an additional trade route for Commodities Cost Cash: $5,000,000 Food: 25,000 Uranium: 5,000 Aluminum: 5,000 World Trade Organization Effect: Opens an additional trade route for Commodities Requirements: International Trade Center, Logistics Center, Space Program Cost Cash: $20,000,000 Food: 250,000 Uranium: 15,000 Aluminum: 10,000 Gasoline: 10,000 Spies Casualties Spy vs Spy casualties are reduced by 33% for the defender on a successful op, and attacker for a failed op. Missiles Spy attacks against missiles have a 25% chance to destroy an additional missile. Soldiers 5% increase is casualties from soldiers fighting soldiers. 33% reduction in tanks killed by soldiers. Soldier only attacks/defends kill too many tanks. Tanks Tanks ability to kill planes after gaining ground superiority reduced by 33% 15% increase in casualties to soldiers by tanks 10% increase in casualties to tanks by tanks With soldiers killing less tanks Planes 25% increase in tanks killed by bombing runs. 10% increase in planes killed by dogfights Ships 10% increase in ships killed by ships. New Attack Type: Bombardment When a nation is blockaded naval units can bombard a city instead of performing a naval battle. This attack destroys 33% less infrastructure This attack destroys 2 non-power plant, non-military improvements in that city. If there are only power plant and military improvements, this attack kills no improvements. This attack costs 50% less gas to perform. This attack costs 50% more munitions to perform If a bombardment attack happens while the defending nation has defending ships, the casualties caused by those defending ships is increased 25%. Example: If you attack with 200 ships and they have 50 ships defending and those 50 ships were going to kill 20 attacking ships, in a bombardment attack they instead would kill 25 ships. You must use at least 75% of your max navy when performing this attack max navy is determined by the number ships you could have if all of your cities had max dry docks, not how many dry docks you current have If you have 20 or less improvements in a city this attack will only kill 1 improvement. If you have 5 cities or less, this attack only kills 1 improvement. Nukes Nukes can now kill 4 improvements per nuclear missile. 2 of these improvements are "general" improvements and have a chance to be any improvement. 2 of these improvements are any non-power plant, non-military improvement. In the event there are no available targets, it bumps up the target list. Effectively if someone only has power plants and military structures, the nuke will destroy 4 of any improvement. Missiles Missiles can now kill 2 improvements per missile. Missile Launch Pad allows a nation to build 2 missiles per day. Iron Dome Reduces the amount of improvements killed from a missile by 1. In addition to normal effeccts Chance of blocking a missile reduced from 50% to 30%. Vital Defense System Chance to block a nuclear missile increased from 20% to 25% Reduces the amount of improvements killed from a nuke by 1. The improvement category this blocks from is the non-power plant, non-military category. Quality of Life Alliances can only have 1 treaty between them. Alliances have the ability to create up to 8 alliance positions, 5 more than the default 3. All alliance roles will come with a check list for which powers those positions have. Bank Access Changing Roles Ability to see spy counts Ability to see daily reset timers (time zones) Editing Tax Brackets Accept new members View member caches Alliance Trades offers also show in the global trades. These trades will show in a different color Expand leaderboards Increase the leaderboards from top 10 to top 100. Alternatively, include all nations in the leaderboards (suggested filters, upon talking more with Roberts: active, non-VM players, perhaps also with a filter to exclude the brand new nations that only logged in once/haven't built up anything). Allow for a search by discord handle Send an automated email to players with nations emerging from vacation mode after an extended period of time. Allow for an option to hide trades of embargoed nations/alliances from the market.
