What I am proposing is changing the infrastructure formula from what it used to be. I'm not sure if i'm allowed to post sheepy's old formula, but my new formula basically works to decrease the initial infrastructure cost up to the breaking point at around 2750. After that the cost would increase a fair bit. This is the costs of the old formula and my new formula. With this the lower infrastructure is a lot cheaper, which will help with player retention due to having more things to DO at the start, allow for smaller alliances to grow quicker, and make rebuild faster and return of interest on infra faster. With this as well I think the soft cap most people go to will increase from 2k-2.25k to around 2.25k-2.5k. However within it there is a large room for varied builds, something building onto what sheepy wanted with the last update, which was variety in build. Along with this, the lower infra patterns (such as being at 1500 for Mensa) would still be viable and allow for more and quicker wars in the game, such as 1 or 2 round fights (which requires less warchest). This would add a lot to the game and make it less boring and politics more interesting. Also the percentage saved in a graph: Sorry if any of my writing seems odd, I had writers block writing this Edit: why do i have to submit this as a question?42 points

Just a quick update, I've made a number of small improvements to the game that I'll note here. 1. I've added a tool for bulk improvement template importing to all cities. Instead of taking the same template and importing it into all of your cities individually, you can do all cities at once with the same template. That tool is located here: https://politicsandwar.com/city/improvements/bulk-import/ and there's a link to it on the regular Template Import tool. 2. I've increased the amount of money that new nations start with from $150,000 to $300,000 3. I've increased the minimum Objective payout from $1,000 to $50,000. All in all, it's a $364,000 increase in total Objective money, making for a grand total of $514,000 more for new players above what they were previously getting with the increase in starting cash & objective money. 4. I added a "take me to the tutorial" alert on the view nation page for new players when they're not on the right page. I often get messages in-game about people who got lost doing the tutorial and don't know where to find it, so hopefully this will improve player retention and help new players get started. 5. VIP benefits like custom city images, military images, religion images, etc. will all automatically reset to the default images if you left your subscription lapse. This will, ideally, encourage more players to keep renewing their VIP subscriptions instead of buying them once and then letting them lapse. This does not apply retroactively, though I will likely remove the custom image holdovers for nations that previously bought VIP once and no longer have it in the future. 6. I've added a link to the Alliance Control Panel in the sidebar when you're on an alliance page. It was previously missing while all the other relevant links were there. --- In the very near future I'll be improving the Bulk City Template Importer to let you select which cities you'd like to import to (if not all of them) and let you preview the operation beforehand as well. I will also be adding Alliance Tax Brackets very soon.6 points

Begin Transmission Unknown Date *Classified* The Holy Britannian Armed Forces and Colonial Army have been approved with their latest assignment. Rather than focusing on the expansion East, they will begin to turn West to recapture and prevent the fall of the Suez. With approval from the Imperial Court hundreds of tanks, jets, and CLASSIFIED have been shipped to the Middle East and training has begun. With such a large force now awake in the Middle East many have become uneasy, and many are joining the Colonial Military. With new hardware and manpower on board, Britannia aims to prevent another blunder in Suez. With the majority Muslim population now refugees the doors to a new life have opened to Britannia. This has also caused Britannia to send more soldiers into their Colonies as they engage in their training and possible future expansion, End Transmission2 points

I don't think you see what I'm saying. Firstly, I was complaining about the "fifth trade" because I was watching the steel market intently and started watching it way before that trade was made and saw what was happening. You will always be undercut no matter what. Let's take this to the extremes to illustrate what I'm saying: If a trade was made for 1,000,000,000,000 tons of steel at $900ppu, the market will forever be at, or below (emphasis on below), $900ppu until all 1 trillion tons are sold because who would offer anything higher? However, no one else will be making that money but you, so you're still going to be undercut. It doesnt matter what you sell at, someone will be more desperate for money or just not care and undercut you. The demand for steel will not go away, so there will always be buys. If selling at a lower volume, the buys will come in faster than the number of sell offers being created -- inherently making the price climb. Let's create a scenario and apply high and low volumes to it: 10 trades @ 5,000 tons each on some resource are listed, one of which is a new undercut by $5. Over some period 20,000 tons get bought and 2 new undercuts come in. What will happen? Low volume trading: High volume trading: The two new undercuts yet put on in our hypothetical will be undercutting two distinct prices. To reiterate: If selling at a lower volume, the buys will come in faster than the number of sell offers being created -- inherently making the price climb. If I bought, I'd be helping the other sellers because now the lowest trade is gone (which would have happened faster if it was a lower volume), and I wouldn't be doing myself any favors unless I traded in a very specific way: tl;dr Putting it all together: If at all I was to sell any large amount of resources or buy those up and sell them at low volumes like you said, I should only do so over the course of several days waiting for each trade to be bought completely before putting up the next bit. If you want to help sellers, sell small, if you want to help the buyers, sell large.2 points

Ah I see the distinction now. The poll is kinda misleading. Doesn't change the fact that it is a bandaid fix, but I if it were lowered to something like 10-25% it might be reasonable. 50% is an extremely large cost reduction. It'll undo the entire point of this update which was to specialize and its not helping new players get over the infra hurdle at the start. (The raise in starting cash helps but it should have been way more than that imo).2 points

Ah, sorry about the couple mistakes I made. Fixed the link in-game on the Changelog, I'll fix the typo on the Control Panel quick link in the sidebar. I'm not sure why anyone's upset by the VIP deal - it's a subscription service. Why would you expect to keep all the benefits after you unsubscribe? You've been able to keep a few of the things because I never got around to fixing it - but encouraging people to buy VIP is good because then the number of people that buy pay-to-win things matters less.2 points

The badly done trading has been brought up before. Massive undercuts are annoying, but those aren't the only things that bring down the market. When you trade at large volumes you essentially create a price ceiling that will be perpetually undercut by any amount. Had Placentica here (not a jab at Placentica) traded at a smaller volume (the original trade was at 34,000 tons) the buys would have ate their way up the trades to a higher price before the new undercuts came and landed the price back to about where it was in the first place: $1,960. (1) Trading at low volumes maintains higher prices. (2) Not massively undercutting maintains higher prices. (3) Trading at low volumes helps lessen the problem of massive undercuts. Kind of had this joke a while, made this a few days ago:1 point

[Classified] Two of the three fleets currently blockading the Gulf of Oman, an Amphib and a Carrier Group, withdrew from their task and began heading south-south east into the open ocean. The fifth fleet continued northward to link up with the pair of fleets that had exited the gulf of Oman. The tenth fleet, returning home from USAsia continued into the Indian Ocean and westwards towards the Maldives. The amphibious fleets in Tangier were finally relieved by the full field army that had been slowly ferried in by boat and air from MoG[Corp]s primary holdings, and set sail for their next objective. The seventh fleet began moving northward to reinforce the first fleet's position and further secure the Atlantic side of Gibraltar to remain strictly friendly to MoG[Corp]. A pair of E-3 Sentrys would remain in flight at any given time, with a total of six now based in Tangiers to ensure the western Med was kept under the careful eye of the corporation. On the opposite side the same would begin from the horn of africa, A pair of E-3s observing anything that moved from the Red Sea to Aden. Laser based weaponry would begin to shine into the skies day and night, blinding any satellites with the unfortunate task of attempting to observe corporate military bases or naval locations. Of course they'd find out where the fleets were, but only once.1 point

I dislike this quite a lot. It's a bad idea to change something like this midgame, and the end result of the change as you propose it here will be pushing everyone more strongly towards the same infra watermarks, so everyone will have similar builds. It also will mute a lot of the effects of Alex's resource update, which, love it or hate it, at least accomplished something.1 point

You just use the ingame calculator or put the amount into the city thing and it auto calculates? Also it's actually pretty easy for mine, just input target number and current number into equation, then sub the current from the target, and viola! you know how much it is... or you use the ingame calculator.1 point

This 100%. The import/export feature is great, but for whales like me to have to do it to 17 cities... it just hurts my delicate hands.1 point

The answer to this update is to just have competent alliance governments put in effort to fix their members and get them to adapt to the new changes.1 point

Well, you certainly did one thing right, and that's having a protector since day one. Lots of micros fail to do this, and that's why they fail overall. Seems like you're off to a good start. Wish you luck.1 point

Shoutouts to *clears throat*: Restius: man we had a ton of adventures in trying to manage CS together. Never a dull moment. Thank you good sir. Senatorius: we were on each other's side, we fought against each other in a war, we were on each other's side again, we co-managed CS, never a dull moment, very good times. Les Paul Supreme: you're not reading this but I follow your world travels on Facebook. You'll make a great doctor someday. Thank you for everything my old friend. Britishdude: I know you probably don't like me anymore, but thank you for that fateful email we all received back in 2014 announcing the CCC's next chapter as Cornerstone. It has been fun and changed my life. Kastor: we rarely saw eye to eye, but man you definitely make the game more interesting and I'm proud to see all you've accomplished and the journey you've made along side so many PnW veterans. Aristide: you have developed as a leader from this game. Great work brother. Glad to serve next to you and you were a great GP. Rache: we'll talk more on FB for sure. You've got this man. Go get em! Retekan: will miss you man Alexius: great serving alongside you in so many wars Aliyan: I'll miss you too man. When I first saw a Muslim guy applying to CS I thought you must have gotten lost, lol, but it's great having you with us and I'll miss you man. SRD: good fighting next to you in countless wars and learning from you man. Fraggle: love your late night forum rants/monologues. Never change. Charming Friends have, as of the typing of this, lost 10,085 tanks. At current market prices for steel, that is just over $40,000,000 in damages.1 point

Me stating that C.F. is violating Reichswehr's freedom of speech - as granted by the First Amendment of the United States' Constitution - is partially roleplay. You're taking what I was saying to seriously. I am, however, using the concept of ''freedom of speech'' quite broadly in this. I can see how you hold that contrary viewpoint to what I'm saying.1 point
