  6. This is an extremely important announcement from your favorite pirate alliance. We’ve been the subject of a brutal hacking campaign carried out, likely, by the Syndicate. They’ve targeted us where it hurts the most, out of pure jealously that we are the masters of the Caribbean and their Nassau Office is a rental leased to them by Ripper. The YouTube video featuring Arrgh’s former alliance anthem was taken down resulting in a new anthem being chosen. Behold the new beauty of our alliance anthem: Though the jealous Syndicate tried to break our spirit, we preserved and came through this incident stronger than ever. I’ve spoken to Ripper and we’re definitely raising rent in Nassau as revenge. Thank you for your time. Arrgh!

  13. Both these transphobic comments happened on platforms that PW runs. This shit should not be happening in your game. OOC attacking people in the community should be scrubbed out entirely, especially when of this nature.

  14. Yes I'm very late. RL been very stressful and I honestly kept forgetting about it. Anyways for clarity this is only for the major war that being the TCW rolling. UPN's rolling doesn't meet the threshold of a major war and therefore a war name vote. That being said if ya'll want I can open a separate thread for a vote on that otherwise it'll just be named whatever the page is already named probs. Pick the ones you like, vote will close in 3 days and then topish contenders will go for a runoff.

  18. You are all allowed to say what you mean to say: Pirate Economy is a trash project. No one cares if you can raid an extra slot at c3, No one wants an extra slot at c10 or higher. 20% more income doesn't matter at c3, you're not there for the income if you're camping in the bottom tier. The benefit of an extra slot is the ability to cast your net wide, but by the time you're not in the single-digit city count you need to refine your strategy or get rolled every time you go declare 6 raids and receive 3 counters. Arrgh doesn't avoid it because of infra costs, Arrgh avoids it because it's objectively bad. Any other military project is better than Pirate Economy right now, even for a pirate.

  19. Oh, I didn’t realize that. Maybe I and Hime-sama reacted because, at least in the US where I live, fascism is on the rise during a crisis and get a little trigger happy when someone seemingly defends something like a swastika. I don’t want bigotry to be unchallenged.

  20. Zephyr, I think you are missing something important here: context. No symbol exists in a vacuum, especially the swastika. If someone creates a nation with a southeast Asian, Buddhist theme, including the swastika as a religious symbol is fine. It’s not being used as a hate symbol. However, if the symbol is there with no context or is paired with Nazi imagery, then it’s safe to say that it’s used as a hate symbol and must be taken down. If you haven’t noticed, Politics and War is made by and American, played by people in the West. In the West, the swastika is used as a symbol of hate and Nazism, so if a Norwegian paints it on the side of their car, they’re not doing it because they’re pagan. They’re doing it because they’re a Nazi and want to show their affiliation. The swastika has been so tainted by Nazi appropriation of it that it’s unusable as a religious symbol. I know the more positive meaning of it, but please look at how the symbol is being used. A Buddhist themed nation can use it. Everyone else can’t.

  22. 1. Those are irrelevant facts as explained in previous replies (not just my own). 2. Incorrect assumption. (the second time you've done this, btw) 3. You go beyond just acknowledging its positive history and "continued positive use." Reading the highlighted portions, it's very clear in your wording that you consider the swastika a positive symbol. That entire paragraph portrays the swastika in a positive light, using time as a way to compare the two usages, mostly ignoring the negative impact that occurred in such small time span, seemingly in an attempt to defend its existence in the game; Which if allowed, would give plausible deniability to any [fascist] that wants to claim the symbol is strictly religious/cultural. 4. You wanted me to respond when I did not originally want to, if anything, you wanted me to be your patsy. In any case, this will be my final reply here, if you wanna talk on Discord, by all means.

  25. Well to be fair, this game is still allowing the use of symbols that have been used by nations, that have a far greater death count than Nazi Germany. As an example you free to use the flag of the British empire, even thought their death count might have been as high as 150 million people, that was rakked up doing the centuries of colonial rule. And communist symbols used by the Soviet Union and China is still also being well used, it not long ago we had a new alliance based on Stalin's SMERSH agency. Plus giving Germany the blame for the entirety of the European theaters death count is also a bit to much. Most historiens assign 17-21 million deaths to Nazi Germany, still an absolute horrific amount without a doubt, that our brains have a hard time to process. But we still have comparable atrocities which we are free to use symbols from. We even had more recent atrocities, that we can use from like that of the heavens gate, who's only reason it didn't kill more people was because it didn't have the means to do so. As i see it, the main reason Nazisme is singled out, is because it can cause legal trouble in some places. Rather then the horrific actions commited by Nazi Germany in it selfeves. And why also terrorist organizations have been singled out by the rules, even thought their death count and crimes against humanity is no where near that of Nazi Germany.

  29. I will definitely play every turn if I could if the rewards are much higher and worth investing into. It would also be pretty cool if the revenue scales with the nation's total infra. so that high infra nations, which tend to sign in once a day, will have an incentive to play baseball, hence come online more often to maximise revenue

  30. Once upon a time credits could be cashed in for 5m, in those days it meant a name change would cost 10m for a single change or 20m for a full change. Now credits are worth 20m and sell for up to 30m on the market at times, that's 80 to 120m for a full rebrand to leader & Nation. As this is really a cosmetic change as it takes about 7 minutes to figure out who this person was before, either name change tokens should be reduced to 1 credit or there should be a bulk Name Change purchase so you can buy 2 for 3 credits, 5 for 7, or 10 for 10 credits etc.(or something like that) at a time at a bulk discount. This really is just something that hasn't caught up with the changing times

  31. *tinfoil hat* This war was just an excuse to extend a sphere-wide NAP between HM/Swamp/tCW so that they can strike at Quack and/or Rose with impunity. The 90 day NAP was the goal, the 10 day war was the price.

  32. Europe, Russia, US, Canada, and plenty of uninvolved nations know about the atrocities. You also have this misconception that population matters as a metric either; seeing that you ignored the rest of what was written, I will emphasize again that 50+ million people died because of those bearing the swastika. Perhaps you should address the main point of the argument, instead of trying to pick at details that don't even matter.

  33. It was your final response that I disagreed with. The swastika is not primarily a positive symbol, and using time as a metric to measure positiveness is a straw man, the impact of the symbol's use, and what it represents, matters so much more. I reckon the reason swastikas are not explicitly mentioned in the game rules, is because they fall in with "nazism," which is stated to be against the game rules. If you think icons, gestures, or the like cannot change in meaning, then you are sorely mistaken. Tip: including facts to an argument, does not in fact, make the argument correct. You wanna hear a fact? Over 50 million people died in WW2, thanks to the people flying the swastika on their banner. You are correct on one thing, there is no debate here. And the other 3 quarters? You can also read the above.

  34. If you're asking "will I debate this with you in this thread", the answer is no. Your attempt to straw man and portray the swastika as a positive symbol is actually vile.

  35. This is a suggestion that has been floated previously, but I think that given the late-stage of the game it would really add something. In a nutshell, my proposal is that every turn, there is some (very small) chance that any given Nuclear Power Plant will experience an accident, causing a meltdown and resulting in the uninhabitability of the city. (I.E. The city is destroyed/removed.) Right now there are 0 mechanics that can reduce someone's city count. Because there is effectively no cap on nation growth, some players are just really far ahead of others and will always be farther ahead. Adding a meltdown mechanic will add a small limiting factor and at the least reduce the growth rate of very high-city nations. Yes, I know, you could just not use Nuclear Power Plants, and I would expect that some players would switch to Wind Power. Which, in my opinion is fine, as that does take up a lot more improvement slots and ultimately still accomplishes the same goal of reducing the growth rate of players at the high end. Here are some numbers I've calculated using a 0.0004% chance of a meltdown happening per Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) per turn. For smaller nations, the likelihood of experiencing a meltdown is lower because smaller nations either have no or significantly less NPPs. It's also important to recognize that the cost of rebuilding, say, City #10 is significantly less than rebuilding City #40. It would be a relatively insignificant change for most players, but it would up-the-ante so to speak for using Nuclear Power Plants, and IMO it's a fun mechanic - it allows a player's risk-tolerance to enter into their decision making when deciding how to build their cities. This change would of course be thoroughly tested on the Test Server for bugs, and probably wouldn't be implemented until late January at the very earliest. So, in the mean-time, I'm throwing it up here to get some feedback. The numbers could be tweaked, of course, but I think that this is a reasonable balance. Let me know what you think.
