  6. Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL) introduced a bill last month which would make all semi-auto rifles and shotguns with detachable magazines items restricted by the National Firearms Act (NFA). For anyone not familiar with US gun laws, NFA items are heavily restricted. They include short barreled rifles, short barreled shotguns, destructive devices, suppressors, full auto firearms (further restricted by the Hughes Amendment) and a weird classification known as "any other weapon" (AOW). To obtain these firearms, you must Fill out a large amount of paperwork Send in fingerprints for a more in depth background check Pay a $200 tax stamp (only $5 for AOWs) Register it on a federal registry (Unless you break another law with the firearm, in which case you can't be tried for not registering it as that would be self incrimination.) Transfer it at a dealer with a Federal Firearms License Wait months for approval (usually between 6 and 12 months; I'm currently on 6) Must be placed into a trust to be reasonably transferred through a will There's a ton regarding the legality of the NFA. I may make a rant post about it some day. Anyway, HR 1263 is interesting for a few reasons. First, it uses a current law to further restrict purchasing a firearm as opposed to new laws. This seems easier to do and different from the usual assault weapon ban proposed every year. However, it's also much more restrictive. HR 1263 doesn't exempt .22s with detachable magazines, which are commonly used for summer camps and programs such as scouts. While tube fed .22s are exempt from the definition of "ammunition feeding device," only firearms with detachable "ammunition feeding devices" are being restricted. Tube fed guns don't have detachable magazines. Why would this be included? The only answer would be to make it easier to enact bans in the future, which may include guns with fixed magazines. In addition, definition of detachable magazine is similar to the one used in California that led to the creation of the bullet button. Effectively, people made the magazine release on their guns to act similar to a reset button on a calculator, using a bullet as a "tool" to release the magazine. Because a "tool" was used, they legally "disassembled" the firearm when they reloaded, making the magazines legally fixed magazines. It took the state years to actually ban bullet buttons. The fact that this bill doesn't learn from California shows that Ted Deutch hasn't researched the topic at all. Finally, the bill only targets rifles and shotguns, a common theme with gun laws. Had Deutch done his homework, he would know that the vast majority of homicides are committed with handguns, not rifles and shotguns. Homicides with rifles, shotguns, other firearms, and all unspecified firearms would still be less than half the number of homicides with handguns. This bill, like many others, completely ignores that handguns make up a disproportionately large part of homicides. Instead, it focuses on weapons commonly demonized by the media and politicians. Ted Deutch would've known this if he did his research. In reality, he doesn't care about firearm homicides. He doesn't care about your safety. He only cares about his politics, his donations, and his reelection.

  7. The guns issue is what will most energize voters toward Republicans; Democrat party has went so anti-Gun there is a danger of them trying to weaponize the gov against gun owners. It’s people like this congressman the founders were worried about. I’m a Libertarian & don’t care for either major party. Although the democrats are bad enough on this issue I want them to lose more usually.

  8. Many mistrades are to buy food for 2k+ PPU from clicking on the Create Offer page and then forgetting to change the resource type. An easy fix to this would be to set the Create Offer default resource type to match the resource of the originating page. ie. if a player clicks Create Offer from a screen that was filtering on iron, then the default resource should be iron instead of food. If the originating page isn't filtering on a resource type, then just leave the default resource type to food. I think this would be as simple as appending something like "&defaultResource=iron" to the Create Offer button and updating the Create Offer page to consume that parameter. If this is too much work, then a simpler change would be to just unset the default resource type. Leave it blank, thus requiring players to select their desired resource.

  9. The problem with seeing a range is that it's still gives you a decent idea of what their army is like, unless the range is huge but at that point having the range in the first place is useless. The problem is many wars were won or avoided by deception, such as pretending to have a big army, or pretending to have a small army. So how about something like this: say the ranges are already in place, under the military tab, you can pay an amount depending on how many mock-ups you need to build or how many things you need to hide: hiding would naturally cost more, to shift the range up or down.

  11. lAzY I'm gonna be honest, i dont know much about firearms because I'm a dirty liberal but I dont see why this would be restricted. Funny enough - eventhough far left politicans does target these bigger weapons, and try to paint them worse than handguns but I looked up a study one of them quoted from and found large data they didnt post which would of contradicted their position which showed handguns were far more used in assaults and robberies due to the ability to conceal them #TheFarLeftIsRuingingTheLiberalName I know it seems I'm supporting conservative points, but last I checked, liberalism is about personal freedoms and that's why I consider myself a liberal, personal freedoms should never be infringed, and guns go in line of personal freedoms.

  14. I am happy to be a part of the hobo express & my first stop with The Enterprise was super fun - had a great time with y'all. As for Krieg having the time and motivation in forming that diagram and thinking that it is even worth bringing up where the express is going and where it hasn't gone is really damn hilarious. Plus, the fact that y'all can't ever just say you ride on the coattails of IQ/NPO....dumbest shit ever.

  15. Why are smaller/micro alliances good/bad for this game? If you could say anything to a new alliance about to pop up a DoE in alliance affairs, what would you say?
    1 point
  16. If you want to start an alliance and the first thought that pops into your head is that you need to get a protectorate, you probably shouldn't. If you're not experimenting with a system no one else is trying, you're probably really boring and unlikely to develop a niche inside the broader context. If you don't have a recruitment strategy other than that maybe you'll have such a *fun* gathering of underachieving social circlejerkers that it will slowly accrete more and more window lickers, then you're probably wasting your time and energy on an alliance that won't last.

  18. Didn't realize when we accepted the hobos in and gave them stellar internship positions that we were merely a pawn in a much bigger game. Thank you for uncovering this conspiracy theory I will be sure to send the findings to our public relations team to create a statement ASAP. That aside they were great workers and it was a joy to have them with us for the week they were there. Safe travels hobos and may you hopefully find a safe haven somewhere...probably not Polaris though, seems like a hostile environment over there.

  19. Enterprise is Rosesphere. And literally everyone knows what sphere your alliance is in. So uhh. Not only are you completely wrong, you're still proving my point about why you were probably passed over. I'm sorry no one wants to visit you guys, though! : )

  20. I think the only way most startups are getting 20 people is if its someone who brought 20 friends to the game, ran the IA department of a massive recruiting alliance like TKR and therefore has a sizable following that could certainly be convinced to join them, or if you're a beloved radio show host or some other sort of celebrity in the game. Or if you happen to preach a certain political ideology within the game that resonates powerfully with people. Otherwise i think the largest i've ever seen was 12-15 or so. Any example above that, has one of the above going for it. I actually had far more of the last one than i expected, but i also ended up competing in those minds with someone who had one of the prior 3 as well, so rip me. Guess the lesson is, go get your own wildly popular radio show or newspaper! Or make friends in real life, but i daresay most of us wouldn't be here if we could do that.

  21. I propose that players have the ability to directly send money to a nation. Sure, we have the current method of selling 1 food or something similar, but we could simplify the process. This change would benefit banks, peace talks, etc.

  39. I don't think its a bad idea to just wait until you have enough people who want you to create the alliance for it to be around the top 50 or so alliances, otherwise just push back when you might make it or not bother. I don't think smaller micros really do any harm, but think its important a new alliance have a good start if they're going to be successful & keep attracting new members. If an alliance forms with vacancies for all the desired gov positions; might be better to wait to launch until those are filled. 20 is kind of an artificial number; since 10 nations with ~20 Cities would probably be preferable to starting with 20 people you've recruited from out of game & need to build up from scratch. Although some planning should go into it, rather than people just creating an AA & hoping people will come.

  40. The 10 vs 20 example was just to point out quality makes a difference over raw number; although I agree mostly with your point & 10 would be on the light side. I'm not sure 20 would be the bare minimum for it to be successful if everything else is good; although I agree its better to have as many as you can & ~20 would be a good number to aim for.
