  1. Hello everyone, A couple of years ago in 2018, and then again last year in 2020 (what were we doing in 2019?), we held a P&W themed pumpkin carving contest. Let's do it a third time! We have had some really cool submissions in the past, such as: (and many more. I encourage you to go look at past threads!) Plus, there will be prizes! Here are the rules: To enter, you need to come up with some Politics & War related concept (game related, alliance related, nation related, player related, etc.) and carve it into a pumpkin. Or paint it on a pumpkin. Or paint it on a watermelon. Or build it in minecraft. Or 3D print it. You have a broad creative license. Then, take a picture of your "pumpkin" and submit it here as a reply in this thread to enter the competition. You will have approximately 18 days to create and submit your entry. This thread will lock on October 25, and then we will have a period of voting from October 24 - October 29 where everyone will be able to vote on their favorite pumpkins. The winners will then be announced either October 30 or October 31. *I know some players, depending on their geographic locations IRL may not have access to pumpkins. For this reason, I am okay with submissions that are carvings into other fruits / vegetables (e.g. a watermelon, a turnip, whatever you might have access to.) Or you can make a digital pumpkin. The world is your oyster! Here are the prizes: Everyone who participates will be guaranteed a special Halloween 2021 achievement for their nation related to this event. The top 3 winners based on voting will receive 5 Credits for their nation each, as well as a special nation award in-game. The #1 winner will get 10 Credits (total). Other Notes: I reserve the right to reject submissions not related to Politics and War. You can submit multiple photos in the thread, but you need to identify one primary photo that we will use for voting. I'd like to feature your creations on social media on our Politics and War accounts! If you do not want me to share your photo in this way, please just make a note of that when you post your submission. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here in this thread so that everyone can see the questions and answers. That's it! I hope you'll enjoy this fun little festive contest and giveaway. I am excited to see what you all can come up with!

  4. How aims are fulfilled -adds new dynamic features to gameplay -The defensive and offensive ability of CyberOps adds a new dimension of gameplay for players, as well as the economic benefits of microchips and their production -Easy to understand and implement(hopefully) -Largely based off existing features -balanced gameplay for all players -High project costs and requirements means that large/rich alliances would not be able to instantly buy the projects for everyone -ROI for microchip production without projects is faster at 7 days from C14 onwards compared to 59 and 97 days for RI and SNI projects @C20, allowing newer players to also quickly benefit from this. Proposal V4(Nothing here is concrete, subject to change) New resources Microchips, Microchips are a Super resource. Super expensive but super powerful. They are produced in Microchip foundries, 3 per city. Construction cost: 250k Running costs 10k per foundry per day. 30% production boost for Max foundries. Adds 60 pollution points per foundry 1 of each resource = 3 microchips (per factory daily) New Military things New military branch, CyberOps Command. Uses Microchips and cash like how other branches use munitionsCan ‘hack’ into other Nations and cause damage. Kind of like spy operations when attacking, based on the number of specialists trained for effectiveness. Limited number of operations a day, E.g, 1 Offensive, 2 defensive a day For example Offensive actions(Success chance depends on No. of offensive specialists used to attack, No of defending specialists etc) Class: Malware Disable power in individual cities for 12 turns 25 microchips and 4 mil per city Class: Trojan E.g Enemy aircraft cannot use microchips for X turns E.g 1 microchip and 1 mil every 15 aircraft Class:DDoS Prevent player from listing or accepting trades for X turns 10 microchips and 5 mil per turn Defensive Actions Encryption duty: Decreases success % of incoming attacks for X turns 2 microchips 1 mil per turn Hotfix: Resolves effect of cyber attacks (Success chance depends on No. of offensive specialists used to attack, No of defending specialists etc) 50 microchips, 15 mil Disinformation: Hides nation statistics from viewing players outside of alliance 2 microchips 1 mil per turn Tracing Ops: Finds identity of attacking nation (Success chance depends on No. of offensive specialists used to attack, No of defending specialists etc) 10 microchips 2mil Microchips in conventional warfare Add the option to use microchips for each military branch. This option let Tanks, Aircraft and Ships deal x2.5 damage when attacking or defending. For example, think how much more effective Heat seeking missiles, ATGMs, Anti ship missiles are compared to their unguided counterparts. The consumption of expensive microchips is meant to reflect this. Spies 4 microchips per spy Nukes 5 microchips per nuke Missiles 3 Microchips per missile Soldiers 1 microchip every 3k soldiers Tanks 1 microchip every 250 tanks Planes 1 microchip every 5 aircraft Ships 1 microchips per ship CyberOps E.g (3 microchips per city, power disabled)x number of specialists New Projects Research Institute (Approx 238mil total cost 57 day ROI at 20 cities) -Requires Advanced Engineering Corps, Urban Planning, 14 cities From 3 microchips daily to 5 daily Per Microchip foundry, now each microchip foundry gives 0.5% boost to commerce Reduces per foundry pollution by half Decrease cost of new projects by 2% Cost 6k Steel 6K Aluminium 2k Uranium 8k Microchips 50mil cash 1mil food Smart Nation initiative (Approx cost 880mil, ROI 97 days with 20 cities) -Requires Telecommunications Satellite, Research Institute, Advanced Urban Planning Ability to train 2 specialists a day, up from 1 raises cap from 30 to 40 specialists From 5 microchips daily to 6 daily Per Microchip Factory, now each microchip foundry gives 2% boost to commerce Enables 2 extra microchip foundry per city so max 5 per city Automatically boosts commerce in all cities by 5% Raises max commerce to 140% Cost 10k oil 10k Uranium 35k Microchips 10k Aluminium 10k Iron 2 mil food 240mil cash The google docs for it https://docs.google.com/document/d/11FXnEutAXbYipxlNr-lampA6Uz9HVwyTBXs1havREcM/edit?usp=sharing The google sheets calculator for Microchip production , project ROI, since raws is just 1 of each resource, the market index is the price of raws https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AwY6wdpjjfSp_1eyIHa8sGq4HJhi0A8Wo3fvBwe_wuI/edit?usp=sharing

  5. I am for one no expert in programming and have never made a bot so take this with a grain of salt. I have however two things I wish to note with API keys: Currently you have to pay to change your API key. Although it's only one credit, and it's not that much, it doesn't make sense that anyone should ever have to pay to change their API key. People might see it, they can share it with someone who abuses it... Years ago we made Flags changes free, I think it makes a lot more sense to make an API key (which has more use than a flag) changeable for free. I'm sure people don't change their API key every week so this should be a non issue and should realistically not severely cut in anyone's revenue (and if it does, we have a different problem). API keys get shared to other people. This is a fact that multiple people who make bots know. Only a select few Orbisians make bots, everyone has API keys. Optimally people should be able to "transfer" their api calls to someone else, with the ability to revoke it at any time (or even have to be re-confirmed every month). This will make it so that people can safely share their API calls with others without risking any abuse in the future. I get point two might be hard, and might not be worth the effort. If it isn't that's fine. I would love if point one became a reality though.

  6. I'm not opposed to the idea; I think calculated the std dev would be ideal but also unnecessarily complex & potentially taxing on the server to do for each trade. Most resources (exception of Food and Credits) trade around the same price. Either setting a fixed amount (say, $1,000) or percentage off average price would be simpler & easier to implement. E.g. If the average price is $3,345 and you make a typo like punching in $334 instead of $3,344 it would pop up (either by fixed method or percentage method.) I think this could help with the alarm fatigue (get so used to the popup that you don't really look at it) that @Talus is talking about. I'd like to hear some more feedback though before pushing something like this.

  7. Sign here if you're tired of every single war being (or suggested to be) named "Error XYZ" or some other spin off about the game servers being laggy. We all know the servers are run in Alex's basement but every fricking war has these as (popular) name suggestions. War names should reflect the politics or major events/players in a war - not the goddamn tech limitations of the 2007 laptop Alex runs this game from.

  9. If I were to create a poll for how many actually read the pop-up that appears when creating a trade, I'm guessing that it's less than 10% of us. It's about as useful as those EULAs that many games make you scroll through and click I Agree. Rather than always showing that pop-up, instead only show it if the PPU for your trade offer is more than 1 standard-deviation from the average ppu. If you don't readily have that calculation available, then just use the same logic that prevents brand new nations from posting trades that are far from market value. Make sure that the pop-up displays as a warning window rather than the informational one that we see now. You could include the color red and large verbage like "WARNING" along with details about why the trade was flagged.

  18. (warning this is a shitpost) I demanded Alex to fix the game, pressured him to add water, and finally restore keno. He got furious, yelled at me, and spit in my face. We argued for days and it got worse and worse. He took my wife, my kids, and even my PS5. However he crossed the line after I told him I'd never buy credits again. In reaction he slapped me like an abusive husband and took my alliance. He couped me, took everything I had, my tax farm. My days are over, and so is Prima Victoria. We live in a world where Alex can do what he wants and if he doesnt get his way will take our loved ones. So remember kids buy credits or you'll be like me. https://web.archive.org/web/20210119022952/https://politicsandwar.com/alliance/id=7570 Prima Victoria (VIC) | Politics & War (politicsandwar.com) tL;Dr - Alex bad

  19. This happens on more than just the buy/sell improvements pages. It also happens on the baseball player upgrade screens and the embargo screen when you are trying to remove embargo's.(probably on other pages I haven't encountered yet or have forgotten about) Every time you click a button it jumps back to the top of the page so you have to scroll back down to where you want to click the button. The page just needs to stay where you have scrolled down to until you scroll to another position on the page. It's bad enough that you have to click a bazillion times to upgrade a player or remove each embargo but having to scroll the page for each click is annoying as hell.

  22. The only reason we have names is as a convention to allow us to more rapidly recognize what period people are talking about. Changing the name just muddies that convention since some people (ME 😡) have to then re-learn the war's name. Stop revising history and just call it E522. I don't care if it you don't like it because it doesn't matter. Dial up is a fine name. Fight me.

  24. Making it easier to permaroll/kill alliances by denying them valuable tax income for post war/rebuild is a bad idea, and since you know about NPO I hope you understand where I am coming from here. Yes they may be gone, but it does not mean other alliances can't/won't repeat what they did.

  25. I don't think it's an inherently bad idea, but it does bring up player privacy concerns. My hunch is that the vast majority (99%+) are never coming back and would prefer that we don't store their data (essentially) forever. I like the current Vacation Mode system because it gives players a reasonable opportunity (60 days to 1 year, depending on how much time they had already put into the game) to return and have their nation essentially restored, but it does not result in us keeping everyone's data indefinitely.
