  1. Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the new and improved Orbis Portal! After several hours of work adding and removing links, finding which alliances and businesses were still active, and fixing broken links, I have re-created a reliable and comprehensive listing of all actively running P&W discord servers that is free and publicly available to all. Alliances, banks, mercs, you name it, The Orbis Portal is your one-stop shop for all servers PnW-related. Our Discord: https://discord.gg/g2zezXT Special thanks to our Portal Guides The Arctic Explorer and De Barra for helping me out and in turn helping all of Orbis. To mark the occasion, I will be running a giveaway for $20m to one lucky winner! Good luck! Hope everyone enjoys! Edit: If there's anything we're missing, ping @Portal Guide in #support.

  2. If I may introduce you to Stratton Oakmont, which liquidated and returned its shares' value directly to its investors: Now, to address the OP... 1) Shares: If you buy shares in a bank then you must demand 2% weekly interest of the cost of those shares, so if you purchased 100m in value of shares you want 2m a week return on that investment of shares. Any bank that offers you a return in cash of 2/3 or half of what they make in gross revenue is either a very risky investment or a ponzi scheme. Investors gain wealth when their share value increases too, and their share values ain't gonna increase much if the bank is paying out everything it earns in dividends. Plus, it leaves the bank less flexibility in times of low loan demand, or when sudden problems happen, like customers deleting/defaulting on their loans. Banks are not magical printing presses. 2a) Savings account, make it clear they can not loan your cash out or make a profit from your saving account, make sure you give them no more than 24 hours to send your full saving account if they fail then they are using your money to support loans, making money off your hard work and you get nothing. What incentive is there for the bank to hold someone's money if they cannot use it? For precisely this reason, none of the banks I've been part of have ever operated savings accounts as part of normal business. And when we did, we were the ones charging the account owner for our responsibility in holding and guaranteeing it. if they default the likely hood is you will lose out not the bank who has no skin in the game. What I think you mean is that the BANKER has no skin in the game. Obviously if the bank loses money, the bank loses money. It IS the skin that is in the game. You also seem to be laboring under the assumption that specific deposit accounts are used to fund specific loans. Now, I can't speak for other banks, but no bank I've ever been a part of did this - investors (not depositors - see above) are pooled into a general cash fund, and from that fund out go the loans. This actually reduces risk in the same way that buying an index fund on the stock market reduces risk - you have inbuilt diversification. If other banks wanna do fiddley bits with the accounts, that's their doing, but I would like to take this moment to remind people that complexity is almost never the friend of an honest man - it exists to obfuscate and create loopholes and opportunities. Now many people such as micro who cares about the name sold 12 billion in shares, however, loaned out 6 billion and the other 6 billion did a harry potter and disappeared. If that bank closed its doors today, all investors and shareholders lose out those running the bank do not care they made more in the last however months than they have in the time they joined us all. But it is not just small micro banks you have to be careful of its the whale banks also, let's look at Seb and Sphinx two of the biggest names in banking. Seb has had what three failed banks and every time it has always been someone else's fault, he did no wrong. Still, every time a bank failed, he got a new city, how did that happen, guess Harry potter returned for Seb. However, little old man Seb is not the only one who seems to be on the winning side of failed banks; Sphinx also seems to find a pot of gold at the end of every failed bank. When Rado left this world, it was reported he stole billions, and no one would get any interest from the bank, however a pot of gold and a new city for our boy Sphinx. And I would like to take this opportunity to remind people, once again... NEVER INVEST IN A BANK THAT IS NOT OPEN AND CLEAR ABOUT ITS FINANCES AND IS FINE WITH DISCUSSING THEM IN A WAY THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND. Just don't do it. There is no reason from the bank's point of view to be secretive about anything (other than occasional customers who wish their names to be hidden) unless they have something to hide. Stratton Oakmont kept 100% free and open books the entirety of its existence down to the general journal in which every. Single. Transaction. Was recorded. Amazingly, nothing bad ever resulted from doing so. So take it from someone who has been in the mud, who has been part of and owned many banks, unless you are running the bank you do nothing but make someone else rich off your money. SO DEMAND YOUR MONEY BACK, SELL THE DEAD SHARES. Unfortunately, this is largely true. Ever since a certain very large and influential bank drove interest rates down to the 3 - 4% region, banking has not been terribly lucrative given the amount of work it takes to run one honestly. That's not to say there is no profit to be made, but I fear many peoples' expectations are far too high when they invest. I own a bank with over 10 billion out in loans, I had 15 billion out, but as I am closing my bank down, I am building cities. As I have seen the light and the error of my ways, BANKS are just taking from you to make themselves rich nothing more. Look at the more prominent names of banking Sphinx, Seb and even myself, 40 plus cities, how many cities you on? Dishonest banks don't return on their investments, honest ones do. Most nations in mid tier are better off investing in themselves than in banks, even just strictly from a return perspective even assuming the bank doesn't collapse or suffer from defaults. However, the implication that the bankers should not be profiting from running banks is absurd. Running one well is a fair amount of work. Bankers are not charities. If you're not getting paid for the effort of record keeping, safeguarding, networking, finding investors, dealing with complaints, and working with customers, why the heck would you even do it? Speaking as one of the first successful private bankers in Orbis, it's a load of work and it's not that fun after the first year of novelty wears off. You bet I made a healthy profit from the bank I ran. But so did my investors. Side note, if you need a loan refuse to pay more than 2%, if everyone did this, the banks will have no choice but to drop interest rates, unlike my bank where all the cash is mine, all other banks have to keep investors and shareholders happy and for the most part, have to pay them weekly. THIS gives you the power to demand better interest rates. So go forth now, and any new loans refuse to pay more than 2%, watch how the micro banks fail and the whale banks dry up. Stop making other people rich and only think of yourself. This is facile. Banks have expenses. People default. Resource brokering occasionally goes bad. And as I said above, a reasonable profit is expected from all the work being put into the bank. If you demand rates that low, banks will just close. I would estimate almost all the banks will close, because even if the banker owns 100% of the bank (and he might, since there would be no point in getting investors since you claim investors should be paid 2% of their investment back every week.... even though the loans being made apparently would be getting 2% for the bank?), 2% return on their capital, less expenses (which can be very substantial) is not worth it. So, good job killing a mechanic that has deepened the game's appeal and accelerated the growth of alliances and nations from the ready flow of capital. I'm starting to wonder how good your bank could possibly have been if this is the extent of your understanding of how banks operate.

  5. Simple enough, his bois forgot to cover their butts against the naval strikes that they really should have seen coming. I've pulled that stunt many times myself, and notably it did not pan out against Aurora, whose boi did see it coming, acted accordingly and countered it properly. The standard old "air only" strats work well in alliance warfare... not in irregular warfare like this. I'd honestly hoped Camelot would know that by now, but turns out I was the sucker in that bet all along ? Micro your guys lost their own raids to, what does that really say about you then? I mean really. Taking two rounds to take down a lone screwball, that's pretty far from braggable

  7. I hope this announcement finds all are doing well in these trying times. In the interest of comradeship and joint alliance military operations, STR and TKBO have agreed to an MDoAP to preserve the wellbeing of both alliances. Article I In the interest of defense STR and TKBO will come to the aid of each other when requested. Article II In offensive wars it is left to the discretion of each sovereign alliance to aid each other when requested. Article III This treaty is non-negotiably binding until the agreed length of time (100 days) has passed. Upon the expiration of the treaty, STR and TKBO will once again come together and either: abandon the treaty, edit its contents and renew, or renew as is. /s/ The Stratosphere Commander: Dave III /s/ The knights of the Blood Oath Bogor: Isole Kendra

  9. Your argument is wrong for multiple reasons 1. War is already about wealth and nation count. This does not change that fact. However, it slow a smaller group to win by being very clever. hence, making war less about wealth and numbers and more about skill 2. People keep bringing up how last war is not a good reflection of war in the game. Id agree with that, most wars are dogpiles. You should NOT be penalized as an alliannce for refusing to sign half the game to win. This addresses that. It gives you an alternative of getting really clever at when to rebuy to do the most damage to your enemy, making them more likely to peace with you. 3. There is no way for Alex to combat toxicity with mechanic changes. However, that shouldn't be an excuse to never implement new things into the game like you are trying to make it. 4. At the end of the day, this game is about willpower. If you want to win, you will find a way. If you dont like another "IQ" like group coming to power and policing the world, there's bound to be other people who also dislike them. Form a coalition, take them down. Thats how its always been, remember papers please the test got too strong, knightfall when TKR got too strong, etc. However, Alex shouldn't be used as a weapon to kill good players because the rest are bad at the game. Like, people talk about unfair advantages. "Using infra is unfair cause it lets people make more money than me" "using just planes isn't fair cause its too effective" "guerrilla isn't fair cause its too effective" Not an argument against Alex rebalancing, however, good players will ALWAYS find the meta before others. Meta shifts are good for game so it doesn't get stale, but dont fault ppl like IQ for figuring out how to tier before the so called "milcom geniuses" did. Its a result of one side having competent milcom

  11. @Bjorn Ironside Well said comrade, thus is true about North Point. North Point is only has high as they are in rank is because the fear that the Government & a few members instill unto majority of the others members to be with them. NP is definitely a powerhouse but one ruled like every major communist regime ever. They got that because of force merges from one nation to a whole alliance by attacking them & giving them either a forced merge, or treaty. If they don't get what they want they attack a few times more until they get there way or the rare chance of giving up. It is a decent strategy but morally straight messed up. All who adhere to the fear of the North Point government, there is nothing to fear. The shrouded light of @Akuryo can be fend off by those embracing the titanic glow of the hellfire & come join us in Cam sphere & Fark sphere.

  12. Caledonia Declaration of Existence Purpose: To announce the existence of the Caledonia Alliance. Intended Users: New nations and micro users. The alliance of Caledonia focuses on helping new nations make their way into the world of Orbis. There is of course those who are merely offended by the thought of micros because god forbid that someone do something other than what the macros want. If someone really hates the idea of micros well your parents didn't tell you your opinion wasn't worth that much. So for the most part we exist outside of the realm of macros influence who cannot handle the idea of not having something under their control. You may take my infra, lands, and men, but you will never take my freedom to talk crap. Otherwise, I look forward to working with many others in the world of Orbis. Signed: Robert the Bruce

  13. Unfortunately, your argument is wrong on at least three foundational levels. First, neither the score formula nor the rebuy rates nor the unlimited cheat resources had or even could have had any effect on the toxicity. That much is inevitable in competitive environments; as long as people hold onto their backwards and utterly immoral mindsets of "winning" and "losing" as things to be achieved at any cost, then no amount of mechanical balancing nor moderation will stop them from being as monstrous and despicable as can possibly be imagined by the most damaged minds mankind has to offer. Whether the mechanical abuse is bending the rules, using poorly balanced mechanics or just flat dishonesty is quite irrelevant and isn't something that we can possibly stop on a mechanical level. Perhaps more importantly, it was in fact not effective. Many players left... and all of their side did, either entirely turned into pillars of salt as they looked back upon the godforsaken city of theirs burning behind them or simply put themselves into quiet exile, nursing their hatred still. One might be tempted to attribute that state of affairs to the act of god smiting their foul works, but do recall that their GWPC was merely a logical extension of the 'tactics' (I use that word in the most ironic and loosest possible sense) that they had been abusing for over 14 years. Nothing about their specific heresies changed the core reality of their deliberately crafted engine of intolerance, bigotry and hatred, which has failed them time and time again even before they arrived on Orbis at all. Third, the rebuy rates suggested and tested really are far too much of an overcorrection. Like I pointed out before, on the one hand sure this makes it harder to sit on people... on the other hand, it makes raw wealth and number of nations able to throw into the meatgrinder more important than even militarization itself, to the point that there are legitimate defensive merits to not having military at all. Consider, if you will, that the main thing limiting IQ's ability to deploy their cheated crap was the score range limitations, the score value and the speed of militarization. With these changes, shit like GWPC and for that matter an IQ style blob could be just plain that much worse, not better.

  15. Heaven has spoken. The gods have declared our time as a strong, independent empire is now over. As of today, the Ming Empire is just a memory. We have had four beautiful and prosperous years in PnW, what started as a CyberNations alliance founded by Diomedes and Trajan as Ragnarok become something more. The Ming Empire was an alliance of diversity, of friends from afar who joined to foster a sense of community and we are proud of that. And while we, the citizens of Ming are sad to see it fade into the pages of history, we are proud of our accomplishments, whether it be supporting each other or our allies, to reaching 50+ members, or joining the top 10. We go now into the beyond with hope and trust that our time here was enjoyable for all and that Heaven’s will be done. While our Mandate has expired, the gods have entrusted a new just ruler with their blessing: Valk of Rose. As fitting, our Empire will merge with theirs, becoming stronger. In the spirit of an independent Ming however, our members had the free will to join any other alliance they saw fit, and we wish them health, wealth, and prosperity. Ming Out TLTR- Merging into Rose

  18. A suggestion to cover what is obviously the most essential resource in the modern world Raw production is wood. The improvement is a forest, which basically operates like a farm - more output with more land Manufactured output is toilet paper. Every citizen you own needs toilet paper at a rate of 1 roll per citizen per week. If the supply of tp drops to 0 then there is civil unrest, all production ceases and your money is looted by your citizens

  19. It's been an honor having Ming Empire for our side longer than even I've been in Rose. Fantastic allies, and now fantastic alliance-mates. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for us as a unified Rose. May the Mandate of Heaven live on through the Eternal Empire. Now I just gotta get Camelot to merge too

  23. Using the last war as an example of the meta is inaccurate. IQ spent years forgoing growth to stockpile resources for a perma war conflict. In the end after all that investment they still had to cheat to stay afloat. That being said, all the issues of that war would be worse with the increase to rebuy. Its already way too difficult to effectively "pin" people in war. All this change does is make it even harder, and put even more emphasis on resources as a deciding factor for victory rather than coordination. skill or activity. As for changing score, unless the military units are rebalanced to be more reflective of strength, like I suggested before, I don't see this as a good idea on its own. Score is way too arbitrary as it is to go making it more defined.

  24. Honestly all of your advice is just to mitigate the risk of investment in shady banks with little or no transparency. Just don't invest in people you don't trust, you don't need to avoid banks.
