Enough of the back and forth. This is not a discussion of the merits of Socialism. If you want to do that, start another thread. This thread is intended as an outlet organised by the Socialist Workers' Front for those who actually celebrate 7 November.

You've come to the wrong place good buddy.

December 26th would make a better "holiday".

It means "whore". Calm down.

Actually it also means f--k, b---h, and whore. When said as an expletive, in the manner used by the posters, it means f--k.

I presume that you are American (judging by your name). If so, I wonder how you can presume to correct a Pole's understanding of the Polish language?

Got to side with Klemens Hawicki here, word is not just an expletive but bloody annoying in how overused it seems to be with some people. I remember when I was at college there were some 3 polish lads whose every other word seemed to be that.

It's a useful mental exercise. Through the years, many thinkers have been fascinated by it. But I don't enjoy playing. It was a game that was born during a brutal age when life counted for little. Everyone believed that some people were worth more than others. Kings. Pawns. I don't think that anyone is worth more than anyone else. Chess is just a game. Real people are not pieces. You can't assign more value to some of them and not others. Not to me. Not to anyone. People are not a thing that you can sacrifice. The lesson is, if anyone who looks on to the world as if it was a game of chess, deserves to lose.

Oh so you're Polish then...

It's weird how someone whose country has been ruled by pretty much every major world power actually supports the ruling party responsible for at least 150,000 of its people during the Soviet repression alone.

And for the record, Poles don't even understand their own language. I've watched Polish people get into debates over the spelling, pronunciation, and grammar rules before. It's quite hilarious - especially when, in the end, they call each other "kurwa" and leave.

I don't particularly care for the PZPR (Polish United Workers' Party). Also I am well aware of the excesses committed by the USSR before 1956. However, somebody once said that Poland was more Polish before 1990. While it is a shocking statement, it is unfortunately true.

The absence of western firms, standards etc. before 1990 meant that Poland actually produced its many of its own distinct goods. Was the quality excellent? No, and I do not claim that these goods themselves were always better. But, nevertheless, these things were ours and that is the paradigm that always impressed me.

I do not so much support the Socialist regime both in Poland and the USSR as much as I acknowledge their creation of a modern alternative to western bourgeois-liberal capitalism. For better or for worse, these regimes achieved material and cultural independence while maintaining general technical parity with the West. It was in other words, Poland was part of a parallel modernity. Poles were Polish not simply because we were painted white and red during football matches and utter profanities like k---a every two words. The very clothes we wore, the very automobiles we drove, the contemporary architecture, the style of infrastructure all made us distinct from the west. I could go on about this, but my words usually fall on deaf (American) ears.

Socialism challenges the effects of capitalism precisely because socialism is an economic ideology that actively fights the capitalist order. In fact, Socialism is the only economically 'conscious' political ideology. Fascism, nationalism, monarchism, etc. usually fail to address the effects of material relations between persons and therefore, simply dress capitalism up in their aesthetics rather than create an alternative modernity.

As a curiosity, the great conservative/reactionary, the Prince von Metternich, describes himself as a 'conservative socialist' in his memoirs (section from 1837). I doubt that he was calling for the Marxist equality. Von Metternich simply deplored the social effects of bourgeois capitalism and the ensuing destruction of order from liberal political influences.

These are simply my thoughts about the positives of a Socialist system in Poland. I am no advocate of the PZPR by a long-shot. However, some inadvertent symptoms of the system are worth noting and perhaps even deserving of praise.

Unfortunately, some persons derailed the original topic. This was meant as a Socialist Workers' Front declaration of the 7 November holiday.

You are trying to make me dislike Bernie Sanders and it isn't working. You are nothing like the real Bernie and if I had control over names on this forum/game I would have renamed you to Stalin or any of the failed leaders after him.

blah blah blah *Insert Bourgeoisie Nonsense/Personal Attack Here* blah blah blah

Stalin wasn't a failed leader, it was khrushchev and gorbachev who ruined the soviot union, whereas stalin stopped the world being conquered by nazis. if it wasn't for him you'd be speaking german by now.
