When I first became Emperor, I was presented with two apparent extremes - shall I be a cruel Emperor, or a forgiving Emperor? Two clear paths to end a conflict. However, I've always been the one to not only take the path less travelled, but to create my own by coercing my way through the brush, cutting when necessary. I aim for moderation, for balance, for a level-headed approach. With that said, please allow me to detail our experience thus far. Soon after my rise to Emperor, I faced the pressing matter on hand - an alliance had willingly harbored a ruler who committed, and admitted to, an act of heinous treason against Rose. First, I approached Cyradis on a personal level and offered my understanding, to try to quickly hash out terms to resolve this conflict. Our terms were simple: 1) A public apology by herself, after returning to Rose to be tried as a member. 2) One round of war, filled defensive slots, where she may rebuy all military units, but not use offensive air attacks/missile strikes. She had appeared to be approving of these terms, but claimed that Grealind had final say regarding the matter, as she is under the Celestial Union's protection. That is when negotiations quickly went south. Grealind immediately declared the terms lopsided and unacceptable, providing his own counterterms that included a joint apology from the CU and Cyradis, along with a monetary sum in place of damages dealt, all done with Cyradis staying under the CU's protection and control. Obviously there are several issues with these counterterms, starting with the fact that we will not accept a lump sum of cash. There is no monetary sum to be paid for committing treason. Rose will not accept bribes. Secondly, we had no reason to accept an apology from the CU, regardless of the greater advantage that he claimed it would hold for Rose. Cyradis had given us admission solely on her part for the crime. Grealind refused to release Cyradis, who had admitted to treason as a government member, back to Rose. Grealind refused to further consider a direct apology from Cyradis. Direct quotes include: Â Quote <Grealind> I'm not going to expel or otherwise remove her from the CU's membership, so having her under your alliance isn't really an option. Quote <Grealind> You won't get an apology directly from Cyradis posted on the owf. You can either have one posted by me on behalf of her or none at all. <Grealind> So which would you rather? There goes the very first term, up in flames. Whatever middle ground I could possibly consider was salted and burned, despite your claimed desire to find a reasonable agreement. Without it, no peaceful resolution with the CU was possible that would allow me to keep faith in myself as Emperor. Grealind had even attempted to forbid any and all direct communication with Cyradis, although it quickly became clear where her loyalties and bonds truly lie. So, there you have it, folks. What we wanted to keep as a conflict with a sole individual has unfortunately escalated to an alliance conflict. Now, this is an important moment to reemphasize my statements earlier regarding moderation and a level-headed approach. An all out war against the CU being the cruel option, giving up to stubbornness being the forgiving (push-over, rather) option. Rose has found our own middle ground. Rose punishes those who deserve to be punished. The individual members of the Celestial Union are innocent in this matter. They were not the ones who knowingly offered protection to an individual that outright admitted to such a treacherous crime against Rose. As such, Rose hereby declares war against Cyradis and the government of the Celestial Union. We will only declare wars against general members of the CU if they attack one of our nations first. Cyradis must face justice for her crimes, and if Grealind and his government wish to stand in the way of that justice, so be it. Every individual member of the CU has a choice to make. As for the government, you have made your choice, and we have made ours. "A thorn defends the Rose, harming only those who would steal the blossom." P.S. You told me yourself that you like to control the flow of information, Grealind. So, we're going to inform every single member of yours of the situation at hand. CU were pretty close to us once, but now I just don't know. He raised taxes considerably, and without telling anyone in CU when he took it over (and also removed me from my arranged security position). Taxes that crippled my production. . Hopefully he's removed from office.
