Obongo the Paultifex
Bernie Sanders is nothing more than an old Socialist ("SOCIAL DEMOCRAT" w/e still shit) with a pipe-dream of implimenting the Scandinavian model of economics in America, and has recently become the posterboy of Populism. There's no way in hell he'll get the Democratic nomination, just like there's probably not a chance in hell that Trump will get the Republican nomination. All this proves is that America is desperate for change, and we won't get that change until we get someone young and charismatic to sweep America out of its partisain rut (Read: Either Hitler or the Antichrist [which a lot of people would probably argue is redundant])

Bored now Leafing
Hmm yes feel the burn as cities are burnt down because the value of the dollar has gone down so much that all of the dependent people can no longer maintain the life they expect and decide to start rioting, that tends to happened when playing with fiat currencies and promising free, free, free. I think i said once that socialism was a mental disorder, maybe it is more accurate to say it is a social disease spread by parasites of all kinds from the highest high to the lowest low, and the only inoculation for it is an understanding of economics and empathy for thous forced to pay the bills of a drunk nation on a spending frenzy. The well off who make there money on the backs of others have no issues with cuddling up to government and will feed on your dreams of socialism, the well off who make money by helping or improving the lives of many are the only ones targeted by socialism, no matter where government starts it always ends the same way, an uncaring elite with an eye sharply focused on a greedy dangerous mass of people who have been fattened on the flesh of the moral. So yes Feel the burn... Meet the new boss same as the old boss.
durmij
I'd like to critique Bernie from the other side. Social Democratism is just another failure at dealing with the inherent issues with capitalism. He simply offers the best chance at stabilizing the paradigm, where Trump and Paul would rather just legalize running your car on poor people blood. Bern is the best candidate by far, but he's not good enough imo. Matthew Colebourne
There have been comments in this thread that just stun me. Are you going to dismiss a candidate because he calls himself a Democratic Socialist? Really? Without even looking at his policies or plans, you're going to just stick your head in the dirt and pretend he doesn't exist. There is no excuse for that. That's just plain stupid. I am not even saying you should support him. I am just saying that it's incredibly foolish to dismiss people out of hand, no matter what they call themselves. If you have the time to watch funny cat videos on Youtube, surely you have the time to spend a minute looking at what somebody stands for. So far, I haven't heard many points being raised against Bernie's policies & plans. And the only one that has been raised was the one about higher taxes. Yes, the super-rich will have to start paying their fair share instead of thriving off the back of hard-working Americans. I am European myself, and if there's one thing I know for sure, it's that Americans are some of the most hard-working people there are. And yet, how many of you really feel that wealth? Do you feel, when you wake up, that you are literally living in the wealthiest country in the history of mankind? Well, do you? You most likely don't. Is it really that hard to admit that a country that's good for all, would be a much more pleasant country to live in than a country that's good for a few privileged people? What strikes me as even more ironic is that often (not always, but often) right-leaning people are hugely distrustful of the government. Yet it was the government who kept telling you during the Cold War that communism was bad. How comes you believe them there when pretty much everything else is a giant conspiracy? Is socialism a perfect system? No it's not. But we've tried capitalism. It breaks time and again. It's a system that works for a few. It's a system that thinks every person a predictable machine who will make cold, rational economic choices. Capitalism has brought The West a great many good things, but you'd have to be profoundly hard-headed to not at least admit that it is an unstable system, spiraling out of control. Sometimes, yes, you have to think from an "I" perspective. But when it comes to tackling issues that affect all of us, isn't it wiser to start thinking from a "we" perspective? Do you think the bankers, during the crash, where thinking from a "we" perspective or an "I" perspective? The answer should be obvious. There is a time and place for the "I" perspective. There is such a thing as taking responsibility, being disciplined, self-improvement, etc. But the matter of the fact is that you're not alone in this world. You affect people, and others affect you. You can try to hide or steer around it, but it won't work. Your live is only marginally dependent on your own good choices and largely influenced by other people, some of whom you won't even ever see. I could keep going for ages, there are so many things I would like to adress, but I'll keep it at this for now. I am open to honest and fair debate, but I am not interested in an insult party. If you knew much about the political system in the US you would know that most democrats are socialists they just don't like to call them selves such, only thing i need to know about him is that he wants a 15 min wage but is only paying his interns 12 and that tells me he is unwilling to lead by example and is a hypocrite just like the rest of them. 2. The super-rich as you call them never end up paying anything when government comes calling they fund the nation when the money runs out and turns into a neo-feudalist oligarchy. Use the scam of socialism to bleed the wealth from a nation then gobble it up for pennies on the dollar. 3. You must not get out much as there are at least as many people who call themselves left or left leaning who are conspiracy minded, as for government talking about the evils of communism, broken clocks and all that, besides i studied socialism and it's cousin communism so i know what it is and is not. In case the first part of this was not clear i do not class as left or right as thous terms detail a false political ideology scale. 4. To suggest that America or even Europe has any significant relation to capitalism at this point is beyond naive, the US has not been capitalist for over 100 years call it fascist, communist, socialist, or anything else you want but capitalist it is not and Europe with that giant Soviet Union clone called the EU hanging over your heads... hmph. No what is in place in the United States right now is an echo of the free market with a command and control economy sitting on top of it. Rozalia
https://www.brigade.com/positions/1146 That comment referring to England is really putting it at the feet of the wrong thing. Socialism economically hasn't existed in England for decades as the "socialism" referred to is actually the "third way", which is left wing socially but right wing economically. Mass immigration championed by these "third way" vandals to get them a source of people who will eternally mindlessly vote for them is what has caused mass employment and other such problems, so even their left wing social policies are just cynical ploys to get votes. Democrats in the USA are pretty much those "third way" tricksters. It isn't just conservatives that should oppose them, but socialists, anarchists, communists, fascists, libertarians, and all other political groups. It is my belief that that logically conservatism is the final obstacle of any left wing ideology but that would be the easy part. The hard part would be first to get these cynical politicians masquerading as the left wing outed and obliterated at the vote box.

Moon Man
So your saying that I should pretend that he isnt a socialist even though he outright said it? I see no benefit to socialism, it will be the downfall to civilization. Why bother working if the government gives you everything and taxes you to the point that there is no point in making money? Surely a capitalist society would spring up and defeat the socialist society if this were to happen, as capitalism has the highest motivation of any socio-economic system out there (except perhaps fascism, but that tends to be more motivation out of fear than anything else

Surely a capitalist society would spring up and defeat the socialist society if this were to happen, as capitalism has the highest motivation of any socio-economic system out there (except perhaps fascism, but that tends to be more motivation out of fear than anything else People always say that about benefits and outside a minority that the media for strictly political reasons pays a lot of attention to, that mostly isn't the case. In reality what we're moving towards is there being less and less jobs as mechanisation and other such things eradicate jobs. Already today the idea that everyone should have a job is a joke as it's an impossibility, take millions of jobs out of the equation and add in some extra people due to high immigration rates and the idea of work being a necessity becomes more of a farce. By that point you either let people die in the streets or you give them benefits to keep them going, and if you don't give the people what they require then they'll take it don't worry. Once every citizen (too many immigrants so cut anything they get and let them figure out their situation out by returning back where they came from if necessary) receives such support then I personally believe business will actually benefit, not stagnate. With no more social obligation to provide jobs, and people being content receiving their income from the government, they'll be able to mechanise further and cut more and more jobs leading to the making of more money. Also many companies should return as the whole expensive workforce being more expensive matter won't be a problem, and China may have their quasi-slave worker force but no human force can compare to a mechanical one. Not sure what the point is there, was simply saying how he is going to be portrayed by the media. Ironically however Trump with his reputation is actually Putin's preferred candidate as while he talks tough on such matters, he's more likely to just let Russia do what it wants in places like the middle east. Trump and Putin seem like they'd be best buddies honestly. I may die of laughter if America and Russia became firm allies under Trump. Miles Dyson
Sanders should pick up where Ron Paul and Ralph Nader left off, and help build a cross-spectral coalition of social democrats and classical liberals against corporatism, excessive military intervention and spending, abuses of civil liberties, the Fed, and the two-party system. Americans should be fighting their common enemy, not each-other. It would be nice if he shed more light on co-ops too while he's at it.
