  1. I wanted to join in, but they're all out of my range. Good luck to our mid-tiers, they're getting good exercise.
  2. I think our shtick will be to make our DOW holiday based. So anyway, nothing personal, war is war.
  3. Seeing how many members of his cabinet have evidence on corruption and criminal links to Russia, I wouldn't be surprised.
  4. Inb Everyone starts posting their political compass. TCW seems to have a weird line between the blues and the greens.
  5. The war started with a spy attacks, and ends with getting rid of one.
  6. Never. The radiation wears off, but the scars never do.
  7. Alliances go up, alliances go down, the rollers get rolled, and then roll again; it's an eternal cycle. Unless they disband.
  8. If I remember correctly, this was what the GPA used to say about us being neutral and many of the paperless alliances tore us apart. So, when the paperless sphere trot out the same "whiny" (their words, not mine) arguments that the GPA and other neutrals used to make, I have to laugh. Sympathy and !@#$ given: Zero.
  9. For once we're on the winning side. Feels good.
  10. Remember, just the fact that you've made it as part of the poll is pretty great, so win or lose congratulations to all of you! Except those on the controversial poll. You lot know what you've done.
  11. You mean the descent of a democracy to an oligarchy? No. I t's a possible end for a democracy, which is why religious authorities and the ultra-rich or any cabal shouldn't be allowed complete control of a society, but it's not the inevitable end of a democracy.
  12. If the game suddenly experiences a growth spurt it would be awesome. New players are needed to keep it going.
  13. Well let's list the major events during the course of the war: -Cold war that went hot -Failed Blitzkrieg -New Military strategy -Biggest war to date -Massive destruction -Radiation -Destruction of one sphere, instead of the usual white peace -Concurrent weakening of neutrals -Introduction of Discord -Political upheaval -Finally, appearance of new alliances, rise and rapid decline of others The effects of the war is such that I'm putting my vote for something with New World Order in it.
  14. Been there for most of my run in Orbis when I was led and recruited by people who aren't there anymore. Everything has a beginning and an end and this was the end for the GPA. That being said, non-neutrality is going to be sweet.
  15. Haha, we'll that's certainly new. I'm sure the facility will also plenty of professionals to properly release the tenants to the world afterwards. http://150597036.r.cdn77.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/clockwork-orange-5.jpg?w=300 Fig 1: A BK scientist presenting "Ayy Lmao: A Love story" to an NPO member.
  16. Happy birthday, and many more hopefully.
  17. Actually, it's a bit unfair if I don't put out another response than the boring "Democracy is best". I think that something akin to how the Five Good Emperors operated during the height of the Roman Empire could work. To summarize, the five good emperors were Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus and Marcus Aurelius. Each one selected their successor based on their competency, and weren't chosen due to being the last ruler's heir or by political maneuvering thus bypassing the corrupt intrigue of Roman politics and their political dynasties A form of meritocracy will always be the best. Unfortunately, that would require the initial ruler to be a good ruler, not to mention that it's not accountable to the people. Is there any other flaws that I haven't seen?
  18. I think there was a Tezuka book where they left decisions about statecraft to a computer. 'Course that eventually backfired since the adherents to that had such blind faith in the computer that when it glitched out and declared nuclear war on another city led by a computer, they blew each other up. I wouldn't say Despotism necessarily requires consent... The problem with Anarchy is that it's a transition state, and eventually an authority will take over at best, or at worst everything will be divided into several cliques of warlords (such as in moments in China historically or in Modern Somalia). Until then you have mob justice, tyranny of the majority or the rule of the strong. The only way to prevent that is by having a central authority to maintain idealized anarchy ironically or have citizens who are passionate about anarchy and will always keep it from degenerating into despotism. Every political argument that ends with "we need perfect, willing citizens" however falls apart, because all systems of government work if we had that. The purpose of democracy is not to minimize the power that government holds, but to make it accountable and subject to change. tldr; Democracy is the least worst system of government.
  19. I think the name will also have to incorporate the fact that one of the giant coalitions is down. We seem to have blitzed from a WWI mess of alliances to a WWII giant fight between sides to a post war situation with just one dominant "power".
  20. Well, democracy is the least worst form of government. It's not always the best, but it certainly doesn't reach the depths of the other governments at it's worst. The main danger would be for democracy to drift into something else.
  21. Congrats to those who made this! Also I suppose to those who managed to made it in. This is pretty informative.
  22. Hmm? Oh, haven't seen that in a while, though it's a funny sort of coincidence since that was after the GPA's last stint as 1#. No, it's an innocent observation about historical trends. A big strong alliance like TEst wouldn't get worried at all about small stuff like this, would they? Make sure to enjoy the Iron Throne. Anyway it's at: UPN: 5 GPA: 2 VE: 1 Pantheon: 1
  23. Seems 1# is the equivalent of painting a giant bulls-eye on your back, so I'm curious on which alliances managed to kick away the other competitors for the top spot for the longest period of time in this bucket of crabs.
