I remember TFP getting whacked a few times, from Arrgh, Mensa, and basically everyone else and their grandmother, but I don't remember ever getting tips. Like seriously, we were insular as !@#$. Only person who had any big idea what was happening on the broad Orbis stage was like Cromwell and maybe some of the OG TFP members. A lot of times when I go back to every time past me went, holy shit, steel is 5k PPU, it's because there was a whole war we basically ignored. First time I remember getting tips was when we were trying to finalize stuff with TEst and I was a fervent believer in TFP direct democracy.

Earlier this evening, Viridian Entente attacked The Fighting Pacifists. We have taken notice of this, and have attempted to contact VE leadership about this. The response from VE's leadership has been... less than forthcoming, and we suspect that they may be afflicted with dementia or amnesia, as they have asked us who and what they were. These acts of unprovoked aggression and bureaucratic red (possibly Viridian to them) tape will not be tolerated. These VE raiders have also sought help from Zuler of UPN, so we have also taken notice of him too. As such, TFP hereby declares an aggressive diagnostic attempt to find out what has gone wrong with the Viridian Entente. I am making a statement to apologize for the wars of nations from T$, Tfp, arggh and charming friends.

Right, but I think we all (or maybe 70% of us) can agree that the political climate is much more interesting and dynamic when alliances have prevalent opinions that stand out from their sphere. Which is what I believe Lysander was getting at. A great example being Carthago and TFP, both have a very strong individual presence outside of bloc politics

It's been a while since I've been on here, but I'll go through your post line by line. While I agree with the posters above, I'll try to explain why here. I say this to explain our reasoning, hoping this helps. Welcome! I will admit I didn't believe someone hit you with a missile, much less a nuke, until I viewed your nation's recent wars. That seems a bit odd. I remember back when those projects were considered expensive. It's still odd considering it seems counterproductive to a raid. I've been on a ~4 year hiatus from PaW, so I'll let someone else chime in if they see a reason why they would be used there. The learning curve is one of the reasons why we highly advise people to join an alliance. The war mechanics are more in-depth than they first appear; the advice of more experienced players in real-time (usually through Discord) is infinitely more valuable than any guide. Alliances are able to pool experienced and inexperienced players alike, creating room for learning. This isn't exclusive to the war aspect, either. They should be helping you in building your cities. I see you have since joined The Armed Peacekeepers (TAP). If they haven't reached out to help you with your city setups, join a different alliance. Let me repeat that: If TAP hasn't reached out to help you maximize your cities' profits, join a different alliance. I don't know much about TAP or TFP these days, so I don't know how their new player outreach is. They could be great for all I know, but it's worth mentioning. (Cut part of your reply for space because it is the same point.) This is generally only true for nations with fewer cities. Most nations join an alliance before reaching higher city counts, leading to fewer raid targets, thus fewer pirates. To my knowledge, there have only been a handful of people who reached city 20 without an alliance, and all have been raiders. (I would argue this is due to their knowledge of war and ability to wage it as the most prominent case of this had the nation constantly at war and winning more often than not.) In reality, the pirates have two revenue streams: their nation and up to 5 (6 with the appropriate project) other nations. The military maintenance is miniscule compared to the income from raiding other nations. It's basic math, really. Likewise, the maintenance from having a standing military will be miniscule compared to losing raids constantly. This is not true at higher city counts and in alliances. As a former head of alliance, there is plenty of alliance politics ongoing constantly, even early on in the game with fewer members and alliances. 1. This may be partially helped by planned changes to naval warfare. 2. -I addressed this above: multiple revenue streams. -Again, it's really only due to size and being alliance-less. Being able to call in backup (alliance members) if you are being raided is valuable. Being ignored by raiders due to just being in an alliance is priceless, as noted by Nyx above. -To be honest, I don't see how nation-level political pacts (defense pacts) would be much different than being in an alliance, minus the bonuses I mentioned above (along with city grants and memes). Alliances that don't protect their own are worthless and should be publicly shamed so raiders can deal with them. I don't know of any top 50 that don't, though. Most alliances I know of offer new nations money to build their cities and usually run progressive taxes. I remember back before the tax feature (or even the bank for that matter) was even implemented, some alliances would charge taxes of larger members just to fund younger nations. City-count cohesion is important for alliances when at war, so they are incentivized to help you build your nation. The market should have enough trading volume to negate the alliance embargo issue, unless you're in a particularly bad alliance. In addition, you have access to your alliance's market. 3. This is actually an interesting feature I'm not opposed to, to be honest. The devs already have quite a few planned features and this is effectively negated by being in an alliance, so I don't think they should make it a high priority. I do find the concept interesting and wouldn't oppose it, though.

Why is your solution to a supposed (and nonexistent I might add) lack of player choice to.... Remove more player choice? If you hate taxes you're free to pick an alliance with low or even no taxes. They exist. TFP has no taxes, they're a top 5. How exactly is there a lack of choice there? Is it because most people wouldn't exactly accuse TFP of being a good alliance? Is that why it's omitted and this framed as some sort of great calamity of missing choice? Because that's the only way that makes sense, and I have to break it to yah, TFP being 0 tax and also not accused of being particularly good by many people, is not merely a coincidence. Other 0 tax alliances are either a whale retirement home or... Micros with a very limited lifespan. Goodness I wonder why that is! Golly, batman, turns out most micros actually DO run very low taxes. To their own EXTREME detriment! I don't say this merely cause I've always been a proponent of centrally planned economy, but also because, THEY'RE NOT ROSE. Rose, the gargantuan, ancient, and LOADED Rose, still know to tax it's sub c20s at what is it now? 80/80 or something? Richest alliance in the game or at least on par with t$ but still taxes out the nose. But of course Rose is already obscenely wealthy so these taxes are primarily just maintaining and growing that wealth while also loading city grants into the econ equivalent of a belt-fed machine gun. The United Armies on the other hand, I think it's always had a 30/30 tax rate, is probably to this day, broke as all shit. When I had my micro, they had triple our members and about double our city count. And then proceeded to make about 1/7th what we did, just in general taxes excluded, since I actually ran 100/0 outside of rebuild. And shit, I was broke too! So yeah, options already exist for alliances with low taxes. Most of them aren't very good. That's not a coincidence. Most of them straight up use their tax rate to boost recruitment, knowing alliances, like Rose, despite their obscene wealth advantage, do tax out the nose. I specifically never mentioned taxes in my recruitment messages for the same reason a micro running 20/20 DOES mention them. Cause frankly when your competition during recruitment is top 5s like Rose, TKR and even TFP with 0 taxes, there are not many options you've got. I played up the whole "hey we're pretty smol, smol tighter community gang yeeee" thing. As a last note, to that thing where it's straight up against the economic stability and wealth security of micros to be low tax, maybe you ancient leviathans could solve that one! I'm just saying the last time I heard of protectors investing in their prots was when IQ was around and did that. Hell I've never even heard of Rose doing it, ever. If your prots aren't worth investing into, ancient leviathans, why are you protecting then anyway? That's just never made sense to me. Oh well, Sakura's rambled enough for today.
