Destroying cities can occasionally serve some practical down declare uses. It gives raiders who feel alienated by recent changes something to look forward to, and it provides a tough lesson to noobs not to keep ungodly amounts of loot on their nations. Additionally, the lack of refund for destroying cities should be enough of an incentive not to abuse the mechanic to much.

Game Development Discussion: Beige Feedback
Avatar Patrick replied to Village's topic in Game Discussion
I think we should keep the current changes and see how they work in a live server setting before jumping to make even more drastic changes. The average global isn't nearly as one sided as dnnla vs schlosers after all. And I disagree with the attempt to end "beige baiting" and I'm not even a pirate. It's not a very frequent problem and it requires some level of skill to pull off. Piracy has been nerfed enough over the years and I don't think it needs to be further discouraged by gameplay mechanics. Not to mention, what happens when someone unintentionally beiges at the wrong time? They lose any possible chance of rebuild as the dogpiling coalition mercilessly goes in for an early round 2. -
RP doesn't play a huge role in the meta of this game. Some nations choose to do it but it's not essential by any means. Participation looks a bit different depending on your alliance and what their goals are but in general just be active and follow alliance orders and stuff. Eventually, you'll get noticed and have even more opportunities

I agree with the general premise of the post but disagree on the last part about legacy alliances. It's one thing to do bold experimentation if you're a struggling, relatively new micro with nothing to lose, but I think it's to much to ask major alliances that have put literal years of effort into getting where they are to do the same. As the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Game Development Discussion: Superiorities Feedback
Avatar Patrick replied to Village's topic in Game Discussion
I'd prefer to see a buff to military score to deal with this problem. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me or seem fair for a nation with a much larger military to be nerfed AFTER the war is declared. Generally speaking, bigger military should mean a greater chance to win. City score should be nerfed as well and I don't think superiority needs to be messed with to much.- 40 replies

The problem is that the average player doesn't get to experience those other aspects of the game aside from war. On top of that you have gameplay changes that encourage new players to rush to city 10 (farming tier) asap and miss out on the experience of raiding early on. To be honest, if I found this game during a period of prolonged peace and had everyone encouraging me to not even raid, I probably would've quit within a couple weeks. I get that alliances have to balance their interests and we can't have perma war, but I wish there was a way to get more people involved without jeopardizing alliance security. To bad democracies always fail lol Edit: I just responded to chatGPT didn't I 🤦♂️

Except it really doesn't do that. There's still an incentive to deposit your stuff after 60 days, reroll and keep raiding. And having fewer nations to raid only hurts the micros that don't have a raid bot. Alliances like Apollo/Eclipse won't be hurt by this at all.

I would've preferred we keep the inactive loot targets since it seems the deletion has had a minimal impact on resource prices so far. That being said, with raiding nerfed (again), low tier is going to be increasingly reliant on their passive income. This should soften the blow a little bit.

Poll: New Tier of City Discount Projects
Avatar Patrick replied to Prefontaine's topic in Game Discussion
I think we all need to accept at this point that catch up mechanics are inevitable and we shouldn't fight against them. Despite being a c35 myself, I welcome the competition and look forward to having more adversaries during war. As some have pointed out, this also gives us another way to sink resources. -
Alex should fix or bring back push notifications. There were a handful of times back in the day I was able to get air superiority by reacting quickly when someone declared.

Well that was a fun change of pace from our usual wars. Shoutout to dryad, penpiko, and carl for leading in stats as expected. Shoutouts to everyone in fortuna who finished with positive net. Extra shoutout to kingghost, ababxah, goober and leland for exceeding 2 billion net. Until next time... Congratulations.

When are you joining the dev team?

In all fairness, it's very difficult for pirates to maintain a blockade if they're raiding a sizeable alliance. If you don't deposit when you can, that's on you imo. And if you're in a micro, you can ask your protector, hire mercs of your own, or buy land if all else fails. 100/100 tax is a very good deterrent too.

Yes I believe your alliance leaders have chosen to switch sides and aid Eclipse in our world domination plan. No need to confirm with them, just trust me.

I can't remember the last time 2 major alliances that are allies engaged in a proxy war lol. Neat
