Greetings, with the sign-up sheets full the sign-ups are closed and the tournament has begun. I would like to thank our judges and debaters ahead of time for devoting time to this tournament. Without further ado. Here are the Round 1 match-ups.

Round 1 Match-ups

Isolatar vs. Mike Haggar

GK vs. Jack McFloyd

Alexi Lysenko vs. Stormrideron

Lannan13 vs. Redael

Here is the debate bracket. http://challonge.com/PWdebatetournament

I will send out the PMs out shortly. Each debater must agree to a debate topic in their PMs. The debater on the Left shall instigate the debate and the debate must start before Tuesday of next week. If the debates are not started before that time, the debaters shall forfeit their spot in the tournament. Examples of a resolution are "Resolved: The United States Federal Government should increase funding for NASA," "Resolved: On balance, homeschooling is preferable to public schooling" or even "Resolved: Viruses should be considered a living organism." These are just examples and users are able to select other topics. **

The Debate format should follow the bellow model.

The Thread (debate) is created by Pro, the user who is affirming the resolution. Con, the user in negation of the resolution accepts the debate.

Both users post their Opening arguments, no rebuttals.

Rebuttals.

Rebuttals and conclusions. No new arguments.

Judges

1. Habibullah Sewick

2. Dimitri Valko

3. Dylan Pascua

4. Durmij

is the first name listed pro and the second con?

Yes, you can manipulate the resolution to make it fit.

For example. Say that you are for abolishing the 2nd Amendment and I'm not. So the resolution would change to fit, example is bellow.

Resolved: The United States Federal Government should pass a Constitutional Amendment to nullfiy the 2nd Amendment. (Original)

Resolved: The United States Federal Government should not nullify the 2nd Amendment. (New)

PMs have been sent.

Just curious, what is the object of these debates? I just read through the net neutrality debate, and it appears that neither participant knows much of anything about the topic or put any particular effort into formulating a reasonable argument. Lannan couldn't even be bothered to spell check or proofread his post.

We were discussing topics, and we agree on most things, so we picked net neutrality as it was one of our few things we disagree on. I had to reasearch to get most of my argument, I've also prepared rebuttals for his opening statement, which I will present next round. And the goal is to debate the subject, and the judges vote on who did a better job debating their side.

It is a simple forum revival. After the debate users are free to converse and speak on the topic and comment on the sides of the issue.

This, and I hope that it is a learning experience for both spectators and contenders. There are many topics that can be debated without resorting to the sort of buffoonery that you typically see on these forums. Any of the more sensitive topics are already banned in the forum rules.
