Cold War Approaching

In recent times, a lot of single nations and alliance are moving into the development of missiles and nukes, on top of this known fact, a lot of nations are also seeking some sort of protectorates and based on this. I see an international Orbis Cold War in the works.

I think this topic should be moved to the "Orbis Central" subforum.

But regardless, I think that the recent GPA War shows that missiles are not a deterrent to any conflict. In fact, they have become the de facto means by which large nations wage wars. I think that once nuclear weapons become common, they will complement missiles in warfare. But I do not think they will deter wars from being waged on the alliance level. Small nations will not be able to afford nukes and will be safe from them.

As for the current wave of protectorates cropping up, that's not related to the threat of missiles but for the threat of raiders. There are many smaller alliances entering Orbis that would be at the mercy of raiders. If not for the protectorate system, those alliances wouldn't stand a chance. As they grow stronger and out of raider range, many protectorates will naturally dissolve or evolve into formal alliances.

But I do not see the emergence of a Cold War so far.

What Belisarius said, protectorate pacts could be the only hope small alliances with no military presence or experience to survive until they can stand on their own feet.

I rather doubt there would be any kind of cold war or nuclear arm race in this game, more like mutual spite and general "leave-us-alone" atmosphere

I'd say nuke the anus first. Always nuke the anus.

"In an honest service there is thin commons, low wages, and hard labor; in this, plenty and satiety, pleasure and ease, liberty and power; and who would not balance creditor on this side, when all the hazard that is run for it, at worst, is only a sour look or two at choking. No, a merry life and a short one, shall be my motto." - Bartholomew "Black Bart" Roberts

Looks like you protect the anus too.

Disagree completely.  New small alliances will have low ANS and larger more established alliances won't be able to touch them.  Missiles are not as effective against smaller nations either.

BK was benefitted greatly especially in our upper nations by our tS protectorate. So Protectorates with smaller alliances that are growing are a great thing.
