Being called a "liberal" is a pejorative. I don't want that on my nation screen. Please rename this to something more appropriate, like "center-left" or "progressive".

Hey, I'm authoritarian. One day people will anger me enough to found the Axis and conquer the world, only to be stopped by liberals.

On a more serious note, I do think there should be a more in depth way to decide where you are on the spectrum(i.e. something like the Political Compass, or the Nolan Chart instead of a line. ), and that it should have some sort of effect on one's nation.

Edit: Maybe something like a stability system determined by the amount of governments by type and policies.

You're no longer protecting the II? We have still teamed with II and TAC (and others) to rival The Covenants. This is getting complex.

Big problems for TSG. Really, not kidding.

If Casey and Cyradis are King and Queen does that mean they're married?

Economic policies affect your tax rate and average income, social policies are just for show. If you combine the economic policies and social policies you do get a sort of "political compass".

Yeah, I can agree. However if they did have some sort of effect in relation to government type bonuses, or had bonuses on their own, I think it would be a nice touch.

I don't think liberal is a pejorative, but perhaps that perception has changed with liberal use of it.

Hue hue hue hue. :P

But seriously, I don't think liberal is a pejorative any more than progressive is inferring that those who are not progressives are backwards. And centre-left just doesn't go with the rest.

Uh... how? Liberal is from the Latin liber which means "free"

Classical liberalism is a political philosophy and ideology belonging to liberalism in which primary emphasis is placed on securing the freedom of the individual by limiting the power of the government.

The etymology is unimportant: this is what the concept is that Sheepy is invoking. However, in modern vernacular, a liberal is just a slur to use against leftists, akin to "idiot", because it is referring to know-nothing social democratic voters.

Moreover, I am a communist. My economics in my nation are "extreme left". I cannot be a liberal by default because liberalism requires capitalism, (eg. social democracy). It would be like categorizing someone as an "anarchist state". It is absurd.

There is nothing wrong with any of my suggested changes. If nobody else cares either way, why not make everyone happy?

Blue:  I believe you mean "United States" vernacular. Also, vernacular in no way denotes definition; people use terms wrong all of the time.

Red: That would be assuming there is a dichotomy in Capitalism and Communism. There are so many different kinds of both. Marx was not the only Communist political theorist. Rosa Luxembourg was very revolutionary in thought. There are too many misconceptions to address here, but Communism can be very individual oriented (as Liberalism is individual oriented)... unequal pay was vouched for by a large amount of Communist theorists despite what the media says.

Green:  Anarchism does have government. It is a democracy. The common thought of it being a stateless society is "vernacular" twisting the definition. Anarchism was created by a splinter group of Communist/Socialist theorists.

Honestly, this is just knitpicking, nothing more.

Yes, agreed.

You shouldn't be lecturing an anarchist communist on leftist thought when you can't differentiate Rosa Luxemburg from a city.

Ooo, TsarNicholas, he sure showed you with his Grammar Police level 10.

In other words, he didn't have anything relevant to respond with.

There was nothing else of substance to reply to. I am not a magician.

Also, it's spelling, not grammar. Just sayin'

Neither clause makes an argument and that counter-argument ( ? ) was Ad hominem.

Also, there would be another fallacy considering the misconception of my position (which I bolded).

Like my daddy always said "If you don't want to be called '(add your own word here. In this case liberal)', then don't act like one."

Setting bonus or penalties for being one way politacally could turn people off the game. No liberal wants to be forced to play a game where they are forced to be Conservative. Or the other way around. I know some people who love nation building and hates war. They don't like having to build troops and fight wars, even if they are make believe.

I did not say it. I just quoted it.

You're an Anarchist Communist? Out of curiosity, how old are you?

I am not opposed to such a suggestion however the opening line is well...... Nothing I have ever heard before:

Being called a "liberal" is a pejorative

I am curious to know why you feel this way?

(I read all your responses, but they are not consistent with linguistics).

"Not consistent with linguistics" ...

???????????????????????????????????

My RL age is unnecessary (as Defender said) but I'm probably one of the oldest people who post here. Maybe it's only an insult to us Americans because our "liberals" are characterized as ignorant yuppie Democrats.

American here, Liberal is as much as an insult around here as Conservative is. So no, I have never seen it used in a negative way before. Personally I usually use Radical or Reactionary whenever I'm insulting a person.

I don't think "liberal" has a negative connotation, and I think this thread has been derailed enough.
