  1. I like these threads. I propose a karaoke war between Exanimeminem and Buorhann, like a proxy battle between SK and Mensa, to be held on some persons radio show if they can make karaoke work. What else are we going to do once the freeze sets in, anyway.
  2. Morgan isn't even in Valyria, I wonder what they think of him speaking on their behalf.
  3. You can intentionally interpret the opportunity negatively if you want, but here's how I see it - any alliance that wants to send members over for a few weeks so that the members can earn a bunch more cash than they otherwise would is welcome to. Any individuals who aren't strongly attached to their alliance can jump to TI, earn the cash, and then figure out where they want to go when TI disbands. As for people who want to stick with their alliance long-term, my advice is to get permission to jump and a guarantee they can return. It wouldn't be smart to leave, join TI, and then have no home to go back to once TI disbands. No one in TI who isn't affiliated with an alliance has a guaranteed slot in any of TI's main contributing alliances.
  4. In a month TI will be disbanded and all those people will need somewhere else to go.
  5. Hey Roz et al, if you don't want to be tarred by the company you keep and the people you vote for, get more choosy. If you wonder why people throw rhetorical bombs and don't engage further, the reason is they realize there is no point.
  6. How does Trump win, people keep asking. Well, here it is: Trump voters spout such extreme bullshit, drawn from such great depths of stupidity, that the rest of us just can't bear to even bother engaging them. What use is arguing with a rock? And Trump supporters get angry and self-conscious, and wistfully think back to the days when they could just shove the smart kids around on the playground, and accuse us of being "elitist" and "arrogant." Perhaps, but you know what? Intelligence matters. Knowledge matters. Education matters. The ability to think and discern rationally matters.
  7. Maybe you should make it 30 days, instead of 10, since people aren't super slow and negotiations have already completed over the sale of many treasures which are now effectively worthless. If you fully anticipate a backlash to virtually every change, there are two major factors you can attack: (1) the notion that your whole active playerbase is rigidly change-averse, or (2) that there is something wrong with the way you roll out changes.
  8. Sounds like movement in the right direction!
  9. A little bit of a rude thing to say to someone who isn't a native English speaker...
  10. Who actually gives a shit what caused you to not like each other and be enemies? You are enemies and don't like each other. Done. This whole exercise of assigning blame going back years is a peculiar problem with this community and linked series of games. It's strange when the actual object of the game is to go to war and win.
  11. This guy is hilarious. It is now apparent why they are so fond of Sith iconography - feeble attempts at "evil" that inevitably fail in the most spectacular ways and against all odds in their favor. Next up, we see how NPO can be defeated by a chipmunk with a spear.
  12. A few things: 1) If you can't split threads, you should set up some demo copies of the forum using different forum software and experiment with mod tools. 2) If you find you are running into moderation issues that you struggle to resolve (i.e. when to warn, when to lock, etc.) then perhaps you should consider adding experienced forum mods / admins from elsewhere to a "mod advisory group" to weigh difficult decisions. 3) Discuss, discuss, discuss. If a problem isn't an emergency (and few are), then discuss it with mods in a mod forum before making a decision. 4) Explain - even if you don't post it, go through the work of developing a fairly detailed explanation for a decision that might be controversial. Having that will make sure you have thought it through and are ready to defend it if challenged. 5) Be open to being challenged - it has been not unusual on this forum to see extremely defensive and emotional reactions to being challenged on a moderation decision. This is, to be blunt, bad and wrong. If you resort to issuing demands that your authority be acknowledged, you have screwed up already. Enforcing the fiction that you are beyond reproach and punishing criticism may give the illusion of calm waters, but in reality it turns all the fish into sharks just waiting for the smallest sign of blood to frenzy. Lastly, like I said - there are zillions of forums out there, many of them decades old. All of these problems have been solved before. You should have a lead mod, and look for someone who has a lot of experience moderating forums for both that lead mod and your other mods.
  13. I stand ready to DOUBBBLE and TRIPPLLLE my efforts!
  14. Mensa doesn't care if you have a justification for your pre-emptive hit. My point is that your in-game conduct is perfectly sufficient to cause people to not like NPO. More importantly, whether people dislike you from (That terrible game that is totally irrelevant and I shouldn't be bringing it up anyways) is both irrelevant and perhaps unavoidable. It's a fact of human nature that if you form an opinion of someone in one context, that opinion doesn't magically disappear when the context changes. If you were !@#$ in (That terrible game that is totally irrelevant and I shouldn't be bringing it up anyways), then that follows you. But the cause of whatever dislike you are encountering doesn't matter, it doesn't invalidate positions or actions here nor is it some sort of get out of jail free card for you here as you seem to think. "These opinions are all from (That terrible game that is totally irrelevant and I shouldn't be bringing it up anyways), therefore you can't use them against us here!" Uh huh. All of this discussion boils down to this: You have bungled your entry into this game. You came in with a team and a strategy, executed presumably to plan and ended up rekt and hopelessly screwed. There is no one else to blame for your failure except yourselves. How will you react? What is your new plan?
  15. Are you not able to split threads? Or remove specific off topic posts? If a thread has entirely moved off topic, is there value in "moving" the ongoing off-topic discussion even if it will not have the effect of allowing discussion on the original topic to proceed? Honestly, these are not difficult problems to confront. Moderating a forum is not rocket surgery, and literally all of the problems you encounter have been resolved decisively by ten thousand prior forums.
  16. I don't know that Mensa has any people who played (That terrible game that is totally irrelevant and I shouldn't be bringing it up anyways). We don't like NPO either, but that is entirely from politicsandwar. Just for the record.
  17. The heavy handed approach is really just one moderator, I don't think we need to tar all the mods with the same brush. If anything the problem with the whole team is the absence of a consistent approach to "derailed" threads.
  18. Maybe we should add "greatkitteh agrees to delete" to the peace terms during the next round of talks...
  19. Thank you for reminding me, I forgot to let that domain expire.

  21. Ok, so the exploit has been proven. So take war decs that come in, lock further decs after a count exceeds 3, and then recount and eliminate any after 3 before allowing any attacks.
