Lucius Optimus
https://cencio4.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/if-you-dont-come-to-democracy.jpg(I'm not completely trashing the system, just bringing up some flaws)Democracy is not what these people need, and it's not what they want either. Here in the US of A we are taught from the moment we could walk how absolutely wonderful our "democracy" is. I refuse to believe this line of bologna as 1) The US gov is not designed to be a "pure democracy", but a "representative republic". 2) If it is so darn good, why are Americans so dissatisfied? Why are we swimming in crazy dept? (17 trillion and counting) why can't the congress pass a budget, or assert itself against the executive? Why do the courts approve unconstitutional legislation? Why do the elites in DC lie to the citizens? Why do we despise this government?Lets first look at the definition of a republic vs a democracy. http://www.lexrex.com/enlightened/AmericanIdeal/aspects/demrep.htmlThe big difference- republics protect the minority for a tyranny of the majority, democracies legally do not have to.The USA's founding fathers preached so hard against a democracy that they start sounding like broken records after a while. Did you know that the people are not even supposed to elect senators? Or that there used to be standards on who voted and who did not?(I'm not talking about race, or gender) It was not the mob-rule democracy that it looks like today.Western blood and treasure has been poured into less fortunate parts of the world, all in the name of spreading our sacred "democracy". Over these recent decades how many of these democracies have been toppled? Or fallen into perpetual civil war? The answer is too many. Because they are not ready, and democracy is not the solution. Here is what I would like to see.In America: A return to a more traditional republic. That means voting standards, and really cracking down on how people vote(no more early voting). I also insist on better voter education on the constitution and the nations founding (teachers please stop saying democracy!).Across the world: No more just installing democratic governments and hoping it works. Let the people get educated about their rights as humans and give them a minimum 2-3 years to chose their form of government. The internet is a very useful tool for this if they can get it.(I had to cut this a little short because of lack of time) Edited March 11, 2015 by Lucius Optimus

WISD0MTREE
Democracy is the worst kind of government... Except all the others. Be thankful America isn't Italy where you have to keep every single receipt so the tax police don't screw you over.

Lucius Optimus
Oh I am glad that USA is not Italy haha. Or any other European country for that matter. But I'm afraid the US is leaning in the direction of some of the European democracies as far as becoming unsustainable. I love Europe, but they have lost their way...
Lucius Optimus
democracy in long run is a bad type of government. I agree. Which is why it is inevitable that the American one will morph into an oligarchy or a dictatorship, perhaps even a monarchy? But I don't think so, monarchies have been given a very bad name (by supporters of democracy).
Lucius Optimus
Whoops! $18.1 trillion! It's bad! You bet it is! and absolutely no one does anything about it! It is a clear indicator of the failure of this government to properly serve the people; because no matter who you vote for for the result is nearly always the same. Same old mediocre bs Edited March 11, 2015 by Lucius Optimus

Anneal
Democracy is bad and evil...but it is better than the fundamentalist theocracies and dictatorships in other countries. And yes, we should still be thankful that despite the U.S. having its terrible issues and problems, it is much better than living in, say, Eritrea. elsuper
Voting standards, regardless of their intentions or contents (poll tax, having to pass a test, or whatever else), will always disproportionately count out the economically underprivileged, and by extension, underprivileged minorities. I'd be confounded if voting standards ever became widespread again. Nothing wrong with constitutional education, though.

It is not outdated by any measure, much better than having a celebrity president. Lucius Optimus
My 50 year plan to save the USA from it's impending political catastrophe: 1) Immediately disband the current government, purge the whole system. Only keep the vitals working. 2) place the US under martial law. 3) New curriculum for school children stressing the constitution, the revolution, and the founding fathers. Make world history upper a high school/ college subject. 4) Tech people (especially kids) to be proud of american culture, not cultures! 5) Unite the people with patriotism (of the old style) 6) make sure all citizens have the basic understanding of their rights; and that they can NEVER be infringed upon. 7) Strict new regs on political campaigning targeted at corruption. 8) Voting standards! voter Id. Only legal citizens who speak english vote. 9) re-introduce elections (slowly!) Start rebuilding the federal government from the ground up; with the basic unaltered constitution as it's blueprint. 10) With new gov in place remove martial law. ===immediately after==== 1) amend constitution to give local government more power. 2) make english the official language. Repeat this process every century to ensure to government stays clean. Edited March 12, 2015 by Lucius Optimus

SoS
I have a one step system... 1.Create an app that identifies and kills ignorant people. On a serious note, political activity is organized around the presidency. This leads to a two party system. Statistically this can only end in both sides playing the middle. We need a government structure that represents those that place in the race as well as those that win.
Big Brother
Oh I am glad that USA is not Italy haha. Or any other European country for that matter. But I'm afraid the US is leaning in the direction of some of the European democracies as far as becoming unsustainable. I love Europe, but they have lost their way... That's funny, because plenty of Europeans have been looking across the Atlantic for decades, and have thought the exact same thing about you. I can assure you, none of us want any part of your madness either. It has never been more common than it is now, to mock American society and all the lunacy you commit to over there, lunacy that the average American thinks is normal and reasonable, because your media and your educational system have duped you into being chronically self-absorbed about the American nation and wholly ignorant of world history, international politics, the norm in other nations, and which policies function well in other nations. Your government and society is definitely not growing more similar to European equivalents, more like the exact opposite. I cannot begin to express the undying, ravenous joy I experience when I recall the fact that I was not born in the United States, and how lucky I feel being a part of a society that is not only more democratic, but also provides far more opportunities for the average citizen to excel and realise themselves, than the United States does or ever has. I like meritocracy more than I like democracy, but corruption makes it difficult to achieve. Edited March 11, 2015 by Big Brother
Lucius Optimus
Ah, a european. Then how do you suggest the US right itself? Many euro nations also have crippling debt. And I don't see how you will ever get a meritocracy in the USA. It's about the GD worthless money. How are the taxes across the pond??
