Nationalismus is more complicated then thinking Nation + alism = ...

Nationalism in its most known form took its roots in Europe, especially Germany and Italy and Yugoslavia area, since they were the last states to unite.

The people wanted an united country, thats why Nationalism, the urge to get a Nation.

And today maybe its Kurds etc. who are nationalistic, or people who demand older frontierlines, like the Russians.

State-driven nationalism comes mosten in form of fascism. Since people voted for those partys out of revanchism.

To set the own country above others and their thoughts about border-disputes.

National-socialism is tricky. Normally the words National aren't bad, and Socialism aren't bad.

Bad is though was the NSDAP made out of it, it was more Socialchauvinism.

Well, since they were the first and only NS-Party worth to talk about, they set how Nationalsocialism is today seen as^^

I actually did think that the concept of patriotism was an American invention.

What's your views on Nationalism(agree or disagree)? Please explain why you view nationalism that way.

Nationalism to me is the only chance for a nation's culture and heritage. Internationalism has caused nothing but war and chaos.

Nationalism is what causes war and Chaos. Globalism has required nations to NOT go to war.

Nationalism is stupid because it doesnt matter what color you are, what religion you are, how big your dick is, or how superior your own delusions may tell you, you are.

Were all human. We can either choose to not be egotistical idiots and coexist, or we can choose to think one culture is superior to another and kill eachother over things that only exist in our minds.

I like the idea of the former.

There you must draw a line between globalism and internationalism.

Globalism is the art to make capitalism globalwide that effective, that not even north korea started war for over 60 years.

Internationalism is an excuse for people born in an totally insignificant country or just lacking historic knowledge.

French.  Entirely a French.innovation.

Not sure if joking...

The first country that could be considered to have a nationalistic tendency would be Great Britain. However, if you want to disregard that nation for totally fair reasons, America should come second. France can get third place or something.

Not Rome? Perhaps Persia? Can you even define where it started? Because if I didnt know any better, Id say nationalism is what created nations to begin with....

Also, your sig is epic.

I actually brought it up in a very long essay-like thing I wrote up on the first or second page but a tl;dr is that Nationalism can be traced back to 1648, "Rule, Britannia!" was one of the first outright nationalistic items that scholars point to, and I mentioned something about how awesome the USA is.

(ooc) How is my new sig? Not sure how I feel about it yet.

Posts like this are why, every time I see your name in the "last post" area, a little smile tugs at the corner of my mouth.  Not a full smile, obviously.  That would be unseemly.  But still something.

From a political or sociological perspective, there are two main perspectives on the origins and basis of nationalism. One is the primordialist perspective that describes nationalism as a reflection of the ancient and perceived evolutionary tendency of humans to organize into distinct groupings based on an affinity of birth. The other is the modernist perspective that describes nationalism as a recent phenomenon that requires the structural conditions of modern society in order to exist.[2]

An alternative perspective to both of these lineages comes out of Engaged theory, and argues that while the form of nationalism is modern, the content and subjective reach of nationalism depends upon 'primordial' sentiments.[3]

Nationalism: According to Wikipedia.

(ooc) Not as agressive as the other one, but it looks fun!

Yea, most people I've personally talked to about it tend to take the more modernist approach, of which I personally favor. While Nationalism is a progression of our ability (or fault, according to some) to unite under something, it should still be listed as separate from other uniting factors. Especially since the Peace of Westphalia set the basis for the modern nation state.

I think that there is a way to have a healthy amount of Nationalism without going overboard. But the sad part is that many people don't seem to find that line and instead blow past it and end up being a die hard Nationalist.

The only way to make sure this world stays multicultural is by nationalism, with mutual respect for different cultures, and the existence of all peoples. That is what nationalism is about.

And I would argue that, thats what internationalism is all about.

A: Why would that be a desirable outcome? B: No, it's not, there's a difference between cultural identify and political autonomy.
