Chalk Talk with Coach!

Hello everyone, I'm Coach.  Game wise, I started off in Nation States...got bored with that fairly quickly, then I found (That terrible game that is totally irrelevant and I shouldn't be bringing it up anyways) and have been playing that now for about 5 years (not very active at this point), started in Sparta for about a year and a half....got bored, quit for a week or so and rerolled and joined the GPA and been there ever since.  Tried my hand at Pixelnations with Rose....and some here know how that all ended.  So now I'm here....giving this one a shot.

IRL, I retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of active duty service back in the spring 2012.  I served on an Aegis class crusier out of Japan for 2 years and 2 Aegis class destroyers, one out of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for 4.5 years and one out of Norfolk, Virginia for just over 3 years.  While onboard those ships, I've logged over 100,000 miles sailed, visited 20 or so countries getting 4 tattoos and did six 6-7 month deployments.  As for my shore duties, I did a 3 year stint with NATO out of Norfolk and a 3 year stint running the calibration lab up in Groton, Connecticut at the submarine base.  The rest of my time was spent at various training commands learning new stuff.

Since my retirment from the Navy, I'm now a power plant technician down in S.E. Missouri with a major global company.  Not a bad job....work M-Th (4 ten hour days), 3 day weekend, M-Th, 4 day weekend, Tu-F, 2 day weekend and on-call....rinse then repeat.  The pay is great and the cost of living here compared to New England is ridiculously cheap.

As too my in-game namesake.....I've been around, played and coached american style football for a long time.  When I was younger, I played on a semi-pro team in Japan when I was stationed there that was made up of military members (mainly sailors and marines) and my highest levels of coaching were at the semi-pro and college DIII levels.  Mainly assited with high schools and youth teams where ever I've been stationed.

Thats about it for my story.....if any of you have any questions at all......feel free to ask them here!!!!

How do you feel about pre 1600 History? Ever heard of the SCA? You have the perfect schedule for it and it's filled with ex military as well. There should be a group in your area. Sorry, for the shameless recruiting :D

I'm assuming you're talking about the reinacting the dark ages battles and stuff.  Know of it, sort of half-assed something like that when I was a kid....used construction site markers (the wood ones about 2 inches wide, 1/4" thick and about 3 feet long.  We'd use those....and trash can lids as shields....man we'd beat the crap out of each other.  As to how I feel about pre-1600s history....I'm some what versed on the acnient stuff like Rome and Greece.  I also played AD&D (I know.....geek-boy) from when I was about 9 or 10 when it was the first edition up through version 3.5.....until about 2007 or so....haven't played any since.  Also played CyberPunk, Gamma World, Mech Warrior, Traveler, Rolemaster, Boothill, Vampires and I think it was Marvel or DC (can't remember which it was)Superheros.

It's a living history group that does also reenact the style of warfare from the time before 1600(it's no foam swords though, full contact rattan with armour standards). And man, I'm right there with ya. D&D nerd for life! I started on 2nd edition. Nowadays I don't get much done though lol

First off....it was my pleasure to serve....and secondly, I like trying to get in on the ground floor of things....you know, there from the beginning.  So whenever this thing goes live, I can say...."I WAS THERE FROM THE START, ONE OF THE FIRST NATIONS!!!!!!"

  • 2 weeks later...

Were you ever at Panama during the 80's?

Nope....I didn't graduate H.S. until '89 then joined the Navy 10 days later. My first three years were spent at training commands. Even fhough I've been to a few places, I never made it to Central and South America, Africa (close several times to Egypt and did some anti-pirate operations off the coast of Somalia) or Antarctica. I have circumnavigated the globe though.....not allat one time, but my travels over the years have taken me all the way around.
