Are there really 1200+ multis?

So this morning I'm looking at my nation page and it states that there are 3224 nations in the game. I then come on here to look around, see if anything is worth trolling and I notice at the bottom of the main page it states that there are just under 1900 members. I thought in order to have a nation, one needed to be signed up on the forums. If folks had deleted their forum accounts, then shouldn't their nation be deleted and removed from the game? Just trying to figure out which number is closer to being accurate....the 3200 in-game or the 1900 members here on the forums.....and if there really are 1200+ multis floating around out there.

No, in order to have a forum account you need to have a nation, but not the other way around.

Wouldn't it work to create a forums account automatically if you create an ingame account and bind ingamename to forumsname ?

No. That would violate IP Board's ToS afaik.
