MarkGrace
Greetings everybody, I recently hosted, alongside a colleague of mine, a chess tournament within my alliance. It was a 2+1 Bullet game with a $100 million prize fund, split into individual prize money depending on who gets 1st, 2nd or 3rd place within the tournament. The tournament was a great success. I then thought about an idea that might seem crazy and might end up falling on top of its head depending on how strong the chess fanbase is in P&W. While war is great and all, I wanted to add a whole new competitive nature into P&W, and possibly change how we usually see P&W now. My idea was to have alliances send their best chess players, battle against each other till one person challenges the World Chess Champion for his or her title, I thought that would be an amazing idea. After the success of the tournament within our alliance, I wanted to challenge myself to see if I can pull it off. So, that's what I'm doing. Two organisations are created: the Epic Chess Prix and the Orbis Chess Federation. Using the alliance system, we could have the ability to accept sponsorships from other alliances who might want to promote the game of chess to Orbis but also advertise their alliance as well. The two organisations do different things: The Epic Chess Prix is an organisation that primary hosts and manages chess tournaments from January to August. The Epic Chess Prix covers Rapid, Blitz and Classical games, with prize money given to players depending on where they are in the standings. The higher you are in the standings, the more prize money you'll get. The Orbis Chess Federation organises the World Chess Championships and the World Team Championship. The Orbis Chess Federation defines and maintains the rules of chess for all tournaments within both the Epic Chess Prix and individual alliance tournaments. The Orbis Chess Federation is the most important one, as they organise the World Chess Championship and the World Team Championship. For now, we'll focus on the World Chess Championship. Let's say your aim is to challenge the World Chess Champion for his or her title and eventually win it. What do you have to do in order to reach that stage? Well, here is the process of getting to that stage: Every month till September will be the usual tournaments, created and held by the Epic Chess Prix. September is when the Candidates Tournament starts. In order to qualify for the Candidates Tournament, you must have won 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th place in any tournament played during the Epic Chess Prix. The person who wins the Candidates Tournament can challenge the current World Chess Champion for his or her title. Prize money is also given here. The World Chess Championship starts in November. 12 Classical games are held with breaks. If tie breaks emerge, then 10 games of blitz are held, best to 5 wins. If all 10 games are drawn, then Armageddon tie-breaks kick in. If the challenger wins, they will get the World Chess Champion title and the prize money, if the World Chess Champion defends his or her title, he or she keeps their title and wins the prize money. The cycle starts all over again in January the following year. I hope to see this through and have it successfully implemented in P&W for the remaining years to come. Any comments, suggestions and criticisms you have, leave it in the comments down below. If you are interested in joining as a board member for either the Epic Chess Prix or the Orbis Chess Federation, please DM Scepter#4452 (me) on Discord. If any alliance or individuals who would like to sponsor any of these events, please let me know. Keegoz
Who cares about 100m when you can cheat in 200b... That aside, sounds cool. 2 1 Quote [11:52 PM] Prefontaine: But Keegoz is actually bad. We'll have arbiters who will make sure cheating is at a minimum. We'll have ways to see if people are cheating.
Spaceman Thrax
I am pretty sure Valinor had a chess tournament recently. You might try hitting some of them up. : ) Quote Slaughter the shits of the world. They poison the air you breathe. ~ William S. Burroughs

Fluffy
Chess tourneys sound awesome, I have a feeling it'd be difficult organizing due to timezones though.

Yeah, plus people might have work or school and stuff, which might make things difficult. I think, when organising it, both the Epic Chess Prix and the Orbis Chess Federation will make sure the event is aligned to every timezone as best as possible, so every player can play. Senyor Puloy
This actually sounds good. NPO also did an internal chess tournament, though from a different game branch (NationStates). Also, what kind of chess platform do you propose to do this? Lichess maybe? or something else? Lichess.org would be the best option for everyone
True King
I consider myself pretty good at chess, even I usually just play games sometimes at family get togethers for Holidays. Might be interested in a chess tournament with PnW players.
