With their defeat at the Feitas River what was left of the Rose forces were in retreat and wherever they went they found defeat. Having retreated all the way to Synkomdi, Emperor Caillou spent a dozen hours in talks with his advisers, trying to come up with ways they could stop the tide that had greatly turned against them. A dozen hours late into the meeting came in the devious Belisarius who was met with great anger, "We would have won if we had given every soldier a Shiba like I suggested! It's your damn fault we lost Belisarius for mocking my wonderful suggestion", chided an incensed John Harms. Belisarius ignored him but he could not ignore Caillou who threw a stack of scrolls at him, "While you were out gallivanting report after report of defeat has come in! New Beringia, Texohio, Altaidor have all been taken and the enemy shows no signs of stopping there.... By Jove I've had to beg the Viridian Entente and even United Purple Nations to beat them back, post war we may well become their damn servants at this rate!". 

 

Belisarius however was as calm as he was devious and boasted that all this was child's play to him, and put in front of him any enemy and he shall present a plan to defeat them without using a single Rose soldier. Roz Wei was put forward as the force for him to beat. "Ah, Roz Wei, all too easy for someone like me. The VE forces have inflicted heavy casualties to the invading forces already so as they are weakened if we attack from 5 different points victory will be assured. First from the south send word to your vassal Don Juan commanding him to attack and take Grillopolis. From the north west send word to your vassal Placentica to first aid the VE forces and then head straight for Noitacav and to take it. From the east the Phoenix tribe can be easily intimidated to attack Menistas. The Peasant insurgents of SWF are easy to manipulated in attacking Lion's Claw from the north. Finally from the north east the Shuriken bandits can be hired to attack Noma. 

 

The Son of Heaven, Rozalia, read the reports coming in and knew immediately who had crafted such a plot, only one man in Rose could be so devious. However like all his plots they could be overcome and Rozalia set up seeing how to undo it. 

 

First was the matter of Don Juan who Rozalia knew well. Hearing that he was friends with Partisan of tS, Rozalia asked if a letter could be sent to Don Juan to dissuade him from attacking. As expected when Don Juan read the letter he feigned paralysis and sent his apologies to Emperor Caillou stating he simply could not march, and the troops morale would collapse if he was not at the head of the army and they knew he lay possibly dying. 

 

Second was the matter of the SWF peasants who were marching on the city of Lion's Claw. No Roz Wei forces were available to deploy but Rozalia knew SWF feared the one known as the Shiba of Kool Aid, Yosodog, who graciously decided to help. Once the SWF troops heard that a force lead by Yosodog was moving against them they quickly fled, leaving their leaders to surrender. In the little fighting that occurred SWF "Governor" Philip Blake was killed by Shifty Stranger.

 

Third was the matter of the deadly Rose enforcer Placentica, famed as the Lapdog of Kangtropolis. Rozalia was most worried for a short while until he read that their target was Noitacav defended by Darkusius. When asked why Rozalia replied, "Noitacav is a fortress made in a NAC style who are famous for their impregnable fortresses, no matter the size of the Lapdog's forces he will be held up for a significant amount of time at the very least". 

 

Placentica quickly arrived at Noitacav and the odds were drastically against Darkusius - he only had 6,000 men, while the Alpha army numbered 600,000. Placentica's first attempt was to carry out an escalade tactic through the use of siege ladders, but Darkusius countered with fire arrows, burning the platforms and parching the men upon them. While the ladders were still aflame, the enemies' battering rams had arrived at the city gate; Darkusius hurriedly chained some great stones and rolled them down, smashing the rams.

 

Placentica then drew back and rethought on his tactics, and decided to create more possible attack points. Therefore, the besiegers started to fill the moats and prepared their siege towers. With the entrenchments removed, the siege engines moved upon the walls while foot-soldiers climbed the walls like ants. However, Placentica was outwitted by Darkusius, who had already built interior walls inside the original walls before the attackers finished filling the trenches. As long as the siege towers could not pass the first walls, the soldiers, descending from the towers and overcoming the outer walls, could not climb the second inner walls.

 

Suffering another defeat, Placentica attempted an architectural approach. Placentica tried to create some underground passages for his armies to enter the city directly. Something much more perilous compared to the prevailing mining tactic, because defenders can counter-tunnel to cut into the attackers' works and topple them prematurely, killing anyone affected by the collapse, and that is just what Darkusius did.

 

The struggle had been continuing non-stop for 20-odd days and nights, with Placentica becoming increasingly aggressive and hypocritical going on the messages he kept sending out. News about relief forces being led by Aerys Targaryen reached the camp of Placentica, who retreated before the main reinforcements reached Noitacav. Alpha general, James II, was killed in the retreat by James XVI.

 

Hearing the excellent news that 3 out of the 5 plots of Belisarius had successfully been defeated, Rozalia was most pleased.
