  1. I for one welcome actual posts declaring war. I wish we could go back to asking for bullshit CB's at least. I would like for a DoW to contain "A reason for the war"--legit or not, who cares and "A way out"--the conditions the target alliance must meet for the war to end Like "Hey, Polaris, we're hitting you cuz we hate polar bears and pengiuns. You can end this war at any time by disbanding all nuclear weapons and missiles and aircraft and announcing your surrender on these forums". Something like that. Well, a mangirl can dream.
  2. I've complained about it many times. Fundamentally, if it makes it inconvenient for everyone and prevents a world where scripters buy any low offer and dominate the market, its probably worth it until a better solution comes out.
  3. My theory is this, Boony. We're all on the same cycle. Buy up, fight a war. Rebuild. Buy up. So, prices go up before a war, way up during war, down after(after we're all buying infra, trying to get one more city so we're 'more prepared' for the next war), then up again before. And since wars happen pretty much big ones all together at once...we are all on the same cycle except peaceniks. And they occasionally get ganked in response to their profiting off the cycle.
  4. This takes courage. I salute you!
  5. How do you access Casino other then the objectives screen?
  6. I'll see your "Manhattan Project" and raise you a "I am become death" project. I'll see your "KGB" and raise you an "Orbital Mind Control Laser". I think projects should not be renameable.
  7. Once, about 15 years ago, I had a sort of Buddhist mini-enlightenment, and I found some of my truth. I found that I am connected to all living beings. And so a murder, an unlawful, intentional killing of another human being, is subjectively immoral to me because killing anyone diminishes me in that I am connected to them. Were I the one doing the killing, I would then be responsible for the killing and all the untold ripples of it throughout time. I deny that humans can be objective about most things. Math maybe, that's about it. We're all observers, seeing from our perspective, so I won't pretend my reply truly addresses "objective morality".
  8. I see some of the money and time conversation has come up a lot. One does not have to live in debt. If you believe freedom is the most important thing, then living under your income level for a decade or so should let you retire forever, so that you only work when you want to. This guy's blog has hundreds of good posts(thousands? Not sure, maybe just hundreds) about the topic. http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/ I only bring it in the context of
  9. Biologically, the point is obviously to procreate, and to raise children who will do the same. You don't want to raise bottom-dwellers, so you need a good partner, and some income.
  10. Ok Roz, you're right. In this case, anyone in a western country who faces a threat of death, for a religious reason or for any reason, deserves police protection and the police should consider preventative detention of those who issue threats, at least briefly. Again though, why would anyone ever give the second answer.
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKGZnB41_e4 Race matters. Race + Guns is a combination that must be considered. TLDW; White guy open carries in town no problem. Black guy gets swarmed by 10 cops. Followup with conclusion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQhkMhdGUf8
  12. With Brexit, NATO straining, and conflicting signals from Germany about confronting Russia, I think its in England's interests to be very close to the US, and its in the US's interests to do what it needs to do to keep that relationship strong. Not that they could see all that in 2002, but it wasn't unthinkable that the EU project could have trouble. The UK needs either the US or the EU. It doesn't need both.
  13. Your answers are !@#$ing stupid. "Muslims are more important and we don't want to offend?" Who the hell believes that? How about, no way do I want to send our soldiers to the middle east to protect anyone, not Israel and certainly not liberal Muslims. And it has nothing to do with caring about offending Muslims. Shame on so many Islamic states for failing to protect their own people(the banghaledeshi secular bloggers come to mind), but fundamentally...its NMP.
  14. Wouldn't buddhism be more the religion of peace?
  15. Others asking the same question. http://reason.com/blog/2016/07/07/black-lives-matter-and-so-do-their-gun-r
  16. Rudolph Hess was convicted as a war criminal for his role in planning offensive war. But his side lost the war. Winners never go on trial.
  17. I read a good book on the Ottoman's some time back. Was written around 1930 I think by some British Lord. It pointed out the constant struggle between a westward looking Islam reform movement, and a medieval-looking conservative movement. All most terrorists groups are in the latter camp. They believe if they just live like they did around 670AD, all will be well. Which is true? Whatever. Which Christianity is the true Christianity? The one with a Pope or the nine hundred sects(totally made up number) without a Pope? Which Judaism is the true Judaism? The one that allows Jews to marry outside Judaism or the other one? Pointless question. If the regular mainstream Sunni's don't crush the radicals soon, they're going to find they are defined solely by those radicals. I never would have predicted the rise of fundamentalism among the Sunni. It was the Shia that were acting all fundamentalist with the Iranian revolution. But I think Afghanistan(the soviet invasion of 1979, not the US invasion of 2002), Bosnia and Chechnya changed the Sunnis and paved the way for a radical Jihad movement that only finds legitimacy in the second viewpoint in Islam, the fundamentalist side.
  18. Juvenile delinquent that's too young to have political beliefs.
  19. Throughout all of history? The Aztec religion comes to mind.
  20. http://www.citypages.com/news/graphic-video-shows-black-man-bleeding-after-police-shooting-in-falcon-heights-video-8415016 http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/06/us/baton-rouge-shooting-alton-sterling/ Both men had legal guns, both men were black, both were killed by police because they had a gun rather then because they did anything illegal or threatening.
  21. Tywin. Yeah. Quaking in my stylish yet affordable boots.
  22. Lets refocus on the very narrowest possible point. Should the government be telling people what they can and cant say? I say "hell no". However good the motive, I think you have to let our redneck sister-!@#$ing hillbillies talk about stringing up the Muslims so the rest of us can laugh at them. Its not like shouting "fire" in a theater, and even racist nutjob conservatives have the right to their opinion and the right to share it, promised to us all by the first amendment.
