Why do people say Donald Trump is not a ''serious'' candidate?
Thalmor replied to Thalmor's topic in General Debate
What do you think of Clinton, Estelle? I think her performance so far has been very poor in terms of campaigning. Her treatment of the media is cartoonish, and I think her popularity is overblown- but maybe I'm not looking at the situation very clearly. -
Why do people say Donald Trump is not a ''serious'' candidate?
Thalmor replied to Thalmor's topic in General Debate
I don't support Jeb Bush, I only mentioned his name in relation to rather or not he's a ''serious candidate'' I'm against him as much as the next guy. Bush never had my vote because it's quite clear he's just a typical politician who has no political foundation except for whatever gets him the most popularity. Carson's extremely popular, though. I know social media isn't the best of sources to go for political information, but his page as 1.6 million likes. For comparison, Hilliary has just over 1 million, Jeb Bush has just a few hundred thousand, and Trump has two million. Of course, the election is still over a year away, so it's way to early to compare numbers and come to conclusions. -
Why do people say Donald Trump is not a ''serious'' candidate?
Thalmor replied to Thalmor's topic in General Debate
Can you go into more detail why? I mean, I can understand Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, and Rick Perry, but what about Jeb Bush? What about Ben Carson? Such a blanket statement like that is odd. I could just be ignorant on the matter, though. -
Pretty much what the title says. In many polls, he's either #1 or #2, and he certainly knows what he's doing. I mean, he's filed for bankruptcy several times, and each time, he's bounced back like nothing ever happened. He's also built his fortune of several billions dollars from the ground up. People who are stupid don't know how to do that, people who can't negotiate certainly can't do that. A huge part of politics is negotiation, and even though he may not have formal political experience, he certainly has experience with other things that are very useful for a politician to have. I also like his aggressive, blunt attitude. I mean, I like other candidate to. I like Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Scot Walker, Ben Carson, and Carly Fiorina. But I think Donald Trump is really a serious contender here, and seeing so many people scoff him off with ''he's not a serious candidate'' really confuses me.

Flipped a coin between D-I and D-IV, D-IV won. _____________________________________________________________ The King of Petravillas buys up parts of machinery from passing traders, and he encourages the craftsmen, carpenters, and engineers to all tinker with already existent machines. After some time of this, some ideas get thrown around, and a few more advanced machines get produced. As with all machines made since the Kingdom of Petravillas was founded, the new machines are traded with and put to practical use. The new machines, however, are particularly useful for improving and maintaining infrastructure. In order to project power, two squads of the Royal Petravillas Army are moved into Terras for security purposes. The Amits stay further away, and the Skullcrushers don't even think about coming near. Wandering zombies are quickly picked off. The increase in security results in more colonists moving into Terras. _____________________________________________________________ Over in the Kingdom of North Iven, a peasant revolt has occurred. The outer edges of the Kingdom of North Iven have stopped recognizing the King of North Iven as rightful ruler, and instead have adopted a sort of anarchist society. The inner sections of the Kingdom of North Iven are also in a state of massive discontent. The discontent has led to a loss of trade. There have been no changes in the map. Could've sworn I edited it, but I guess not. I bumped it to 55-->65

The King of Petravillas encourage the ranchers of the Kingdom to increase their livestock. This is done by grants and by subsidizing the cost of animals passing traders might have to offer. For farmers, more landed is allocated to them. This decision, however, disturbs some of the locals that are not under the Kingdom, and they become a little frustrated by it. Upon hearing of the hospitality of the Amits from Petravillian colonists, the King of Petravillas tries to make contact with them once more. The Amits respond back pleasantly, and even gives a brief summery of themselves. The Amits started out as a confederation of other tribes and groups of people out east of the region by a few hundred miles. They've existed for about four years now. They are nomadic, and never stay in one place for longer than a few months. Their death rate is larger than their birth rate, but they've been incorporating new groups of people since their existed. Only 20% of the current Amit tribe are part of the original group, the remaining 80% are mostly other incorporated groups. The common philosophy of the group is that good will between the common man will restore the world to the way it was prior to The Fall. On the flip side, they hold to the belief that evildoers hold that progress back. Their militant stance to ''evil'' as resulted in the Amits being fierce, well-armed fighters. _____________________________________________________________ Petravillian colonists report that Skullcrusher settlers in the area have largely pulled out. The cause of this is constant skirmishes with the Amits, which have resulted in considerable causalities for the Skullcrushers. A small, stubborn pocket remains on the far western side of Terras. The Petravillian colonists also report large numbers Amit tribesmen looting vast sections of Terras on the town's eastern half. The western half is largely left alone, however. There have been no changes in the map. Status: Food Rating: 65% / A fair amount of variety and a lot amount of it. Military Rating: 65% / A decent force. Let's cap the number of soldiers a nation can have. 30,000 soldiers can beat 8,000 soldiers easily, and that's not fair. Let's cap the number of nations an alliance can have. No alliance should have more than 10 members, it makes it unfair. Let's cap the amount of income a nation should have. No nation should make more than $200,000 net a day. It gives richer nations an advantage over newer players. /s But no, seriously, I'm the type of person that loves to keep growing. If there's no end-goal to achieve because it's ''capped'' for ''equality'' then what's the point? Putting artificial barriers in the game that serves no real practical purpose hurts the game.

I just typed a full response and accidentally exited out of the whole thing. I will type the full thing out later tonight. The ''2 votes win'' rule is still active, though, so A-V wins next turn. Do you guys want me to re-institute ''3 votes win'' or keep it as it is?

Thank you for pointing that out, I actually forgot to edit that.

Alarmed by the sudden presence of Skullcrushers just one mile south of Outer Petravillas, the King of Petravillas decides to go on the offensive. First, though, he wonders if it would be possible to add helicopters to the Army. He speaks it over with the more educated subjects, and spends plenty of funds on trying to buy up parts for helicopters from passing traders. This is made harder by the lack of an actual downed helicopter anywhere in the region. With no idea of where to start, the craftsmen and engineers get to work trying to build a helicopter from scratch. They actually do succeed, and a small, 2-seater helicopter is made. It's very basic, but does have room for a machine gun on it. Although due to the fact that it was taxing to make, Marshall Mayer orders it to only be used for scouting purposes. Marshall Mayer decides to attack the Skullcrusher position with full manpower and with all vehicles. The King of Petravillas also calls upon Apol to come help. Several hundred fighters, equipped with many machine guns and attacking from the north and east, flood the Skullcrusher encampments. Caught off guard, flanked, outgunned, and outnumbered, the Skullcrushers are quickly killed or routed. The causalities are as followed: Petravillas: 1 Killed, 7 wounded, 1 vehicles lightly damaged Iven-Petravillas: 2 Killed, 13 wounded Skullercrusher: 47 killed, 56 wounded Skullcrusher weapons and other supplies are looted. Because they fought together, relations between the Ivens and Petravillian grow even stronger. _____________________________________________________________ Petravillian colonists in Terras report that several firefights between them and Skullcrusher settlers have killed many colonists, they request reinforcements. The Amits have decided to establish their camps outside Terras, they have set up their home in the region. Petravillian colonists report that they are very friendly. The King of Petravillas decides that electing an official heir to the Petravillas Throne would lessen the risk of civil war come the time of his passing on. He decides that Charlie Mayer is a fitting choice. As he is also in charge of the military, it makes the chance of a civil war even less. Mayer accepts the decision, although does state that ''he is not politician.'' _____________________________________________________________ The Amits have bypassed the zombie horde and is moving towards Terras. The Skullcrushers have set up a position east of the mountains north of Iven. This has cut trade down dramatically and hurt stability. The endorsement of Medon Teliku still stands. MiEsca Pedsano sounds like he/she wants to start a war. LeZejerold Park actually does sound decent, though, I will admit. Although because Rekishstein is powered by nuclear energy, it makes me wonder what he/she will do to advance the environment. I fear he/she will support radical ideas that will be harmful in the end.

C has won, I will add the next turn in later this evening. I don't know if y'all saw it earlier, but I said that if anybody has any questions about the lore that hasn't been specified, feel free to ask.

Not picking a special is fine and will be recognized. E and 1 wins this turn. _____________________________________________________________ The King of Petravillas puts craftsmen and other carpenters to work fixing outer roads and even a few of the country ones. It isn't particularly expensive. The improved trade quickly made up the different anyways. The King of Petravillas makes an announcement and requests adventurers for the colonization of Terras. Most of those who volunteer are people who have already went and their respective spouses. They take plenty of supplies with them, and they head to Terras. _____________________________________________________________ There have been no changes in the map. The endorsement of Medon Teliku still stands. Ayy Elemayo of The LMAO Party needs to take a lesson in economics. It's always good to have about 2% unemployment as to keep an economy flexible. DeNoloki Peas of the Conquering Party is a coward because he skipped out on national military service. Max Peas of the Peace Party sounds like a one-issue party, so forget about that.

The King of Petravillas decides to would be a useful idea to add machine guns and even possibly rocket launchers onto the vehicles. The extra firepower would certainly open up extra tactical options. After speaking to the Marshall, and then to the craftsman, the King of Petravillas takes a moderate amount from the treasury and invests in metals and larger caliber ammunition. The craftsman come up with their own explosives. Eventually, after some time, heavy weapons are added onto the trucks and even some of the cars. Ammunition isn't exact plentiful, but the new addition to the R.P.A. is useful. The soldiers are elated. The King of Petravillas decides to publicly challenge the King of North Iven's claim over Apol. Poorer, weaker, and greatly disliked, the King of North Iven is forced to retract his declaration. The King of Petravillas is now even more popular among the ethnic Ivens. _____________________________________________________________ There have been no changes in the map. ''...until it can't be sustained any more.'' Can you please elaborate on that? I don't see how a system as simple as ''you give me X for Y'' will become unsustainable. I suppose we're at an ideological stonewall then. I just don't see anything wrong with someone working for other person voluntarily. I mean, it's only natural for humans to form hierarchies and for people to rule over another. I mean, I see where you're coming from, I think. I just don't see an issue that need fixing. At least, not fixing now. The employees do two different things. First, they ''work up'' patients by going in, seeing the initial issues, and then they leave a chart for my mother to see. The second thing the employees do is organize the charts by the information given by the patients and by what treatment my mother prescribes for them. We have to organize everything the way we do to both provide the best care, and to meet state and federal standards. With my mother's employees helping, we wouldn't be able to do that. We'd go out of business, and then suddenly, hundreds of people in lose quality healthcare. But hey, at least the worker's aren't exploited, right? By the way, those two comics are extremely biased and really don't paint the issue fairly. The first comic is literally ''Capitalism is bad, communism good! And the second one portrays all employer's as greedy and arrogant. Thank you for clearing that up. For some reason, I had trouble following and thus deciphering the quote. Capitalism is a simple idea, though. ''You give me X for Y.'' Gravity can be observed. Evolution is backed up by fossils. Yet, again, I bring up the fact that you yourself said that true communism hasn't been practiced. So, where's the supporting evidence?

The biggest issue I see with this, though, is how will you convince seven billion people - particularly in Europe and North America - to adopt a system that would dramatically change society and their daily lives? Change is scary to people, especially in regards to how they, well, live their daily life; their routine if you will. How will you convince all the governments of the world to dissolve? Although, I will be honest here. My opposition to what you're saying comes less from ideology and more from pragmatist. I suppose I can see this happening once technology gets to the point where physical labor on behalf of humans is no longer necessary. However, until then, I'm very skeptical. The employees of the world are not exploited, though. Employment is a voluntary agreement between two people: the employee and the employer. The employee gives his labor, and in exchange, receives a wage. I know this firsthand because my mother owns a clinic and for the half-decade she's been open she's had dozens of employees. All of them were paid above minimum wage and were treated nicely, they weren't taken advantage of, and they chose to be there. The claim that the rich individuals of the world don't do any work is absurd. The kings of history had the duty of running the state, and the C.E.O.'s of the world have the responsibility to make sure their company runs smoothly. My mother, for instance, has to make sure the bills are paid and that the employees don't act up. Don't they all work with their hands? No, but that doesn't meant they don't work. See, here's the issue, though: To Karl Marx himself, his proposition was a theory; it's never been done before. You stated yourself that ''true'' Communism has never existed. Marx doesn't know what he says in the above quoted paragraph is true. The arguments you are providing for you ''side'' are simply that: theories. There's nothing for sure known about them.

A society without a government just isn't possible. It's natural for people to form social spheres and to attempt to control other people. Trying to form what is, by the way you're putting in, an anarchist society, is difficult because how will you stop the thieves without a police force? How will you prosecute and go after crime? How will said society make sure everyone does the work necessary to preserve modern society as we know it? How will science progress? I mean, will scientists do their work diligently and for the greater good of mankind out of their own kindness? If you can achieve what you describe and at the same time keep the peace, then good for you. However, it just doesn't seem possible because of all the variables. I was defending capitalism, not Laissez-faire. I can understand some regulation in the market and some forms of welfare. Heck, I generally view myself as leaning conservative and I can get behind a single-payer healthcare system; assuming it's done right and carefully. So how are you going to change it, then? For the reasons I pointed out above, it just seems like it would be easier to accept the current system and to make the best out of it yourself than to commit to the promotion of an ideology that has had it's name smeared in more blood than a feminine hygiene product has.

When it comes to military (or really any kind of) technology, the general rule is that the cooler it looks, the worse it performs. Japan's robot will look like something out of Pacific Rim, and the United State's robot will look like an autonomous junkyard. After the match, Japan's robot will be an actual junkyard, and America's robot will be getting all the hot robot babes.

You can rant and rave all you want about capitalism, but In every application of communism that has occurred throughout the 20th century you see the same thing - which is to say, massive loss of civil rights and massive rates of death; caused by political purges or dramatic economic hardship. Simply looking at it per capita, capitalist nations enjoy higher qualities of life. Look at this these well-fed, wealthy, free Soviets!

Let it be known that King Thalmor of The Evenstar officially endorses Medon Teliku of the Conservative Party of Rekishstein for the office of Chief Executive of Rekishstein. Like, seriously, Teliku gave a reasonable campaign. He/She made a decent case for himself/herself whereas Anra Key was basically ''HURR DURR POWER TO THE MUH PEOPLE LUL''

Books not already held in the collection of the schools or private libraries are rounded up and cataloged. Trade is focused on buying books, and some people even take an initiative to write their own. These are shared between a national, government-funded library and the various schools. People continue to learn more and more about the world around them and how to use it. An expedition by the Royal Petravillas Army into Terras takes place. They report back, confirming a moderate zombie presence and the presence of both unaligned marauders and Skullcrusher settlers. It is also reported that a lot of goods, specifically plenty of weapons and metals, are available for looting. _____________________________________________________________ The Amits and the zombies have stopped fighting, although the zombie horde remains in place south of their encampments. Carefully, the Amit traders go out and scout the region, establishing relations with Petravillas and Iven-Petravillas Apol. The Skullcrushers killed the Amit representatives whenever they met them. The King of North Iven declares Apol to be rightful North Iven land, and demands that the King of Apol submits. The King of Apol scoffs it off, and the North Iven people slowly start to migrate over to Apol as complaints against the King of North Iven grows. The North Iven identity is slowly fading.
