Check out my profile, or my country, Midorijima, if you want. I'm not as war-minded as I may come off as at times, but I am here for the trade and the management of my nation. I know I'm probably making myself more vulnerable by not actively trying to join one, but I'm going to try to remain somewhat passive in the game for now, until I can get the basic 4 cities down pact. Then I'll think about joining one. :3c If you wish to remain somewhat passive, I'd recommend looking into a neutral alliance like the GPA. They will likely have guides and city grants that can help you out, too, instead of taking on the learning curve on yourself. But of course, your playstyle is your choice.
