A Brief History on the Grand Principality

The history of the Grand Principality begins in 53 B.C.

 

The Battle of Carrhae, the Roman Empire is at war with the Parthian Empire. Marcus Licinius Crassus general of the Roman invasion force, has been tasked to destroy the Parthian Army lead by General Surena. He outnumbers the enemy but Surena was a brilliant tactician, the Roman Army moved into formation. The Parthians used scare tactics and horse archers to route the roman forces. Marcus Crassus was killed during the battle ultimately causing the Roman forces to flee.

One group of 200 legionaries fled north, led by Gaius Aelius, to the Kingdom of Iberia. The Roman soldiers found shelter among the Iberians. Becoming a General of the fledging kingdom, Gaius would marry the princess of Iberia, Ana Chosroid. Their son, Livic Aelius, would become Prince of Argveti, and alongside his father would conquer the Principality of Colchis after a ten year war.

 

Livic would marry the Princess of Colchis, Elene Crisus, ending the war in 13 B.C.

Livic with his marriage to Elene formed the United Principality of Argveti and Colchis. With the death of his Grandfather in 8 B.C., he then became the King of Iberia. With his father being of Roman descent, Livic would form an Alliance with the Romans as he provided troops to fight alongside the Romans against the Parthian Empire. With his son, Drovic Aelius, leading the allied forces, under the command of Roman Emperor Gaius Germanicus, the Parthian Army was routed. As a reward for victory in Parthia, Iberia is granted control of Armenia which had been taken by the Parthians earlier in the war.

 

With this victory Livic declares the formation of the Grand Principality of Caucasus. Uniting the territories of Iberia, Armenia, Argveti and Colchis. The Grand Principality would maintain its stand through the years by allying itself with the Byzantines and later the Russians. The Grand Principality is one of the few nations to have defeated the Golden Mongolian Horde and is the oldest government currently in existence. The Clades Dynasty is currently in control of the Grand Principality, and is led by Livius Clades.
