Police Action in Velika

As of 2pm yesterday, a special emergency session of the Council of State passed an immediate amendment to the "exploitation law" that was previous passed. The amendment was proposed, again, by Minister of Justice Nemaja Varislav. The amendment makes the law retroactive, meaning that it would apply to any exploitation offenses which occurred before the passing of the bill, even before the Socialist Revolution. Mere hours after the passing, NARPOL troops sprung into action across the country as the sun set, at least 10,000 in all, driving large army trucks, wearing dark green combat uniforms, black helmets and armed with assault rifles.

During the night some 1,996 people were arrested in cities across Velika, but it is believed this is only the first "wave" of arrests related to the exploitation bill. An article this morning in the Party newspaper said the People's Police had carried "a righteous patriotic struggle against the one percent of monarchists, speculators, profiteers, kulaks, pimps, maffiosi, bourgeois and other vampires which were responsible for sucking the life-blood from the Nation before the Revolution". Under new provisions in the bill, those accused of exploitation are not entitled to the following rights; a trial by jury (instead a single judge will preside), appeal, lawyer. The cases will be heard by an emergency revolutionary court under NARPOL control. Minister Varislav defended these measures saying "these blood-sucking vermin have already exploited our Nation and State, they will not exploit our legal system too" and said that the country was in a state of war against enemy class elements which are planning to undermine, attack and overthrow the Socialist State. The article also noted the former occupations (before the Revolution) of those arrested:

plantation owners (mostly tobacco) : 174

nobility/members of the ousted royal family: 112

landowners: 287

landlords of apartment houses: 215

factory owners: 183

businessmen: 216

lived off unearned income: 198

shop-owners: 290

organized criminals: 276

pimps: 45

Grand Inquisitor Azula condemns the arrest of any innocents.

Azula: Too much government is bad, the people need to be able choose their own paths and businesses need to be able to flourish. The Peoples Republic of Velika is an oppressive state against its citizens and is incompatible with the global market.

As a result of the brutality of this crooked regime I will be pushing for embargoes the next time and I meet with the Empress.

The Evenstar strongly condemns Velika for the injustice of arresting people for violating a law that wasn't in place at the time of the crime committed- nevermind that the crime itself wasn't a concrete act and just ''exploitation of the masses'' - whatever that means!

The Evenstar also requests that we receive the members of royalty held in Velikan prisons.

It means: "living, partly or wholly, on the labor of others, ie on employed workers". So if your personal income comes from other people's work. Obviously those who can't physically work and live from a state pension (ie physically/mentally disabled and elderly retired) don't count.

We'll consider it.

Azula: This intrigues me, I'll put in a request for the plantation owners, landowners, landlords, factory owners, shopkeepers and businessmen.

FYI it's former owners etc, their property was nationalized after the Revolution, thus why the Government considers them an enemy, they may want to overthrow the State to regain that property.

So, extradite them outside Velika.
