If they discover a damaging story they report on it and nothing happens to them (well they get payed). Not just leak weather reports or something, but give out secret giving out classified information. They could be charged with treason under US law. If any American citizen, not sure why you care if they are RT reporters, conducted those acts they could be charges and go to jail if convicted. Espionage is the word, vice treason. I think the max sentence is like 15 years in the US for data marked secret. Being charged with and convicted of actually espionage is different than being sentenced to death for what looks to be trumped up charges.
