  2. APPLICATION Official Nation Name: Athretvari Population (P&W numbers): 1,116,153 GDP per Capita (P&W numbers): $2,912.36 Population Density (sq. km): 143.10 people/sq. mi Form of Government: Semi-democratic strato-technocracy evolved from a military junta dictatorship. Politics&War Wikia Link: (Leave blank if you don't have one) Describe your Nation IC'ly: Athretvari is an archipelago of 78 artificial islands located in SE Asia between Vietnam and the Philippines. It was created to serve as a former "ASEAN Joint Free Trade Zone" prior to its independence in December of 1998. 3. I've always been impressed by Tywin Lannister's flags and page. Leader Name: Tywin Lannister Nation Name: Land of Westeros Nation Link: https://politicsandwar.com/nation/id=15294
  4. Sheepy SO owes me. Grrrr....
  5. It isnt so much to change the prime incentive to host. It's to encourage just a bit more playing of away games by providing a tiny reward (in relation to winning). The problem now is that too many ONLY want to host now, gumming up the games. If players received just "something" for the what is admittingly the more tedious task of playing away games, then the games may flow better. I would strongly recommend reconcidering something along the lines of 5-10% of the host's ticket revenue (not winnings) to the visiting (away playing) team if they lose the game.
  6. The management of the Athretvari Jellyfish would like to thank you for highlighting this issue! A simple formula might be 10% of host's ticket sales (not winnings, just 10% of earnings for hosting) for the losing away team.
  7. MARIA (Orbis 7 August 2003) — The Athretvar Defense Forces confirmed today to RCBC that the ADF Missile Corps had conducted a successful test of the Scimitar CORBM-A1, a new three-stage long-range conventional ballistic missile built by ADIG Rocket Systems, that the government in Maria says will help strengthen the nation's defense posture. An unclassified infographic of the Scimitar CORBM-A1 released by the ADF Missile Corps. The new missile, estimated to cost the government Athretvar ¥19.5 million when including materials and fuel, is classified by some defense industry analysts as an offensive weapon. It was tested at the ADF's newly constructed ¥1.1 billion Cabo Carnival National Missile & Rocket Laboratories and Launch Facilities in the southern citystate of La Mencia. The ADF stated that in line with Athretvari's official foreign policy of neutrality and non-aggression, the Scimitar system, while subjectively classified as an offensive weapon, is strictly intended to be utilized as a defensive deterrent and that like all other Athretvar defenses, will only be deployed against hostile nations that have initiated armed conflict against Athretvari. (Athretvar ¥100 = Orbis $1)
  8. MARIA (Orbis 26 May 2003) — The people of Athretvari joined the world in mourning the sudden passing of the musical genius known as Prince. The 57-year old musician is immensely popular in Athretvari, having sang his famous song "1999" on December 7, 1999 to celebrate the nation's one-year anniversary of its independence. He graced fans with his unique music at Athretvari's Stingray Stadium a total of seven times since then. Defender Tyro Leif said today, "I know I speak for all Athretvars in saying, we shall miss him, but he will live on in our hearts forever through his music." The Central Bank of Athretvari has authorized a special-edition currency-bill valued at 1,999 Athretvar Yen (Orbis $19.99) to commemorate the artist.
  9. This nation is in Vacation Mode for the next 106 turns. This nation cannot be attacked or traded with during that time. lol...
  10. Isn't this evidence that 'war just for war's sake' philosophy is actually damaging, and not constructive, to your own nation's and alliance's development?
  11. Will miss ya on the baseball field! Godspeed.
  12. Burke wiped the sweat from his forehead. He wasn’t looking forward to giving Elena Ripley the news, but he was happy it was the small cost he had to pay for getting out of the task himself. Elena’s luxury apartment block overlooked a small marina choked with large sleek yachts. She lived in the posh Paloma district of Cantos d’Aves, reserved for the Technate’s second-tier officials. He could barely see the first ocean breakwall far off in the distance. Elena opened her door, “Burke? What are you doing here?†“Can I come in? I’ve got some news.†.Burke hesitantly placed a hand on Elena’s shoulder to comfort her. “Don’t touch me you coward. I know they gave you this assignment. How’d you get out of it you little weasle?†“Elena! Seriously! I had nothing to do with it. I...†“Get out.†She opened the door. Burke dropped a thick dossier on her breakfast table, “Everything we have on the Citadel and Mad Max.†He turned to her, “Be caref...†“Get out!†[several minutes later.]
  13. The Government of Athretvari greatly appreciates the efforts of Narvan to facilitate the accommodations of our embassy and has itself commissioned the construction of an embassy for Narvan within the Great City of Maria, capital of Athretvari, situated prominently within the Government District of the capital upon our most glorious Boulevard of Liberty. The Government of Athretvari is delighted and agrees. We have begun the process of selecting ambassadors to the great nations of Khevin and Chernigov, and hope to announce them soon. Our nation greatly appreciates these opportunities to develop peaceful and prosperous relations between our peoples.
  14. To the Government of Mad Max, The Citadel From Elena Ripley, Chief Secretary of the Department of Cultural Interaction of the Athretvar Ministry of Foreign Interactions Respecting Participation in The Citadel Cultural Event Dear Excellencies, Greetings and salutations from the Government of Athretvari. We are a relatively small but cultured nation just emerging upon the international stage, being very desirous of further understanding the many diverse cultures and civilizations of Orbis. The Government of Athretvari would greatly appreciate an opportunity to participate in this event, in the hopes of gaining a better appreciation of Mad Max and the great nation he leads from halls of The Citadel. We appreciate this opportunity and thank his excellency Mad Max. Sincerely, E.R., Cs-DCIMFI
  15. MARIA (Orbis 26 April 2002) — Georgio Clunei was today appointed Athretvari’s first ambassador to the Empire of Narvan, the Ministry of Foreign Interactions announced. Mr Clunei has recently served as national Infrastructure, Industries and Energy minister for nearly two years after he assumed the role of chief minister of the City of Julia from 1997 to 1998. He was Julia’s minister of Infrastructure from 1990 to 1995 and vice-chief minister of the city from 1995 to 1997. Mr Clunei graduated and received his doctorate in Civil Engineering from National University in Maria in 1985. He is married to Hasmin Al-Abda Clunei, founder and chairwoman of the Institute for the Development of Athretvar Foreign Relations, a powerful think-tank in Maria, the Athretvar news service ATR-1 reported. Mr Clunei will receive his credentials at a ceremony at the Defenderate afterwhich he will travel to Narvan to take up his post. Athretvari and the Empire of Narvan established diplomatic ties in January of 2002. Mr Clunei said of the news of his appointment, “I am honored and humbled to be selected to represent Athretvari before the imperial court of Narvan. I hope to foster good, friendly, and mutually prosperous relations between our nations. And hope that our two great nations can cooperate toward insuring the peace of the greater Indian Ocean Region and Orbis."
  16. Athretvari would like to make the following claim... We're hoping this claim constitutes 15 territories.
  17. If you're starting a new RP, you should have two threads—one Out-of-Character thread for rules, sign-ups and OOC discussion, then a second thread for the actual In-Character RP posts. This will keep it "clean" and more manageable for you.
  18. Cool beans. I'll get to work then and get in contact with some queries and details soon. For when you're interested in seeing what a real RP looks like— Part I (Pre-Nuclear War): http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=240539 Part II (Post-Nuclear War): http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=284492
  19. You can keep your "RP", if you desire to call it that. LOL... I'm not at all interested in participating with god-modders. This one is all yours, bud. But maybe I will start my own, and we can compare which is still running and better in the long run. Up for the challenge?
  20. You can deal with the "continent specific resource" issue by just assigning a player's actual in-game resources to whichever territory he/she occupy on the RP map. OR create a new planet with continents with their own mix of resources. (That's if resources will actually mean anything practical in the RP, for example if the OP rules state you must account for resources, then they are important. Otherwise, they are just RP fluff and it can be assumed that players get their resources "some how".) The best bet would be a non-Earth map that basically "resets" what territory is truly valuable in the grand sceme of the RP and what's not. The premise of the RP could be a near future colonization, forcing each player to "start from scratch" and keeping the tech level within understanding.
  21. I was the OP and cartographer for an open RP that ran three years straight on Nationstates. Our map: http://www.gothamloki.com/nconmap.htm Sadly ended when a bunch of newbies demanded RP rule-changes to off-set the fact they needed to start off small while there were many big established nations already in the RP. The OOC debate got so heated it destroyed the RP. But this is totally off topic. My bad.
  22. RP AMATUERS, The whole lot of ya! 1: The person who draws the map, owns the map. (Usually the OP.) 2: The OP of the RP is god of the RP in that he/she sets the rules of the RP. 3: The OP's rules must address two basic RP actions—initial claim, and how to expand. 4: OP's rules must also address Military Size. This can be done two ways—Use in-game numbers, OR allow each nation at sign-up to declare a population and a max military of 10% thereof. (The second option is only advised for a small group of players that know and respect each other. Otherwise, in-game stats are best in that they are most “impartialâ€.) 5: The OP must enforce the RP rules and moderate battles. 6: Players must consent to battles. Either an agreement before each RP war, OR players understand that by being on the RP map, they automatically give that consent. (The first option is only advised for a small group of players that know and respect each other. Otherwise, the second option is best to keep the RP “moving alongâ€.) 7: Unless otherwise stated in the OP’s RP rules, anything possible in the real-world should be possible in the RP. Same goes for restrictions on what is possible. (Example, conquering neighboring chunk of 1000 sq miles IS possible with just 50,000 soldiers and 1000 tanks. Conquering half of Africa with that number IS NOT possible.) 8: Address RP events, ie, a player conquering half of a continent, IN THE RP. (Ask, can that player defend all that territory? If not, ask/demand that the player define the position and strength of his/her forces, and then act accordingly.) Don’t let IC RP events spill over into OOC. This will guarantee/scare players from RPing with you in the first place. 9: If you have a tyrant or idiot for an OP, don’t join that RP. You’ll regret it and quit over time anyway.
  23. GLORIA (Orbis 4 April 2002) — An Athretvar masterpiece worth up to 5 million Athretvar Ƀitcoin has been taken from the National Museum of Art (NMA) in Gloria, amid speculation that it may have been stolen on the order of a private collector. The small oil painting entitled "Hungry Cat", is by Subo Figgs, an Athretvar painter from Cantos d'Aves whose mastery of light and shade has drawn comparisons with Rembrandt and Walt Disney. It was stolen in the middle of the night from the Modern Art Hall of the National Museum of Art in the northern Opera District of Gloria earlier this morning. The painting, completed in 1939, would be hard to resell in Athretvari because of stringent controls on stolen art works, but the thieves may try to off-load it on Orbis's notorious blackmarket, experts said. Or it may have been stolen to order by a Bond-style criminal mastermind, one art historian at the NMA speculated. "It may have been taken on the orders of a very rich, passionate art lover who wants to have it for himself, a bit like the head of Spectre in the 007 films," said Claus von Burns, an expert on Subo Figgs. Victor Scarbo, a well-known Athretvar art critic, said the painting was "a monumental work and national treasure" that would be worth between five and six million Athretvar Ƀitcoin. The theft is being investigated by officers from a specialist unit of the ADF Gendarmerie police force. The heist of the painting has shocked the nation, the museum’s curator said. "This precious painting is part of the cultural heritage of Athretvari," said Jon Carlos Mozilla. "The theft has affected not just the museum but the whole country."
