We would have the terrain advantage. Worst case scenario, we blow apart the mountains and cause tons of landslides up northeast, blocking off the roads. Yeah but Ohio outnumbers you like a trillion to one and a drastically larger economy, they have the manpower and funding to replace losses. This may also apply for Vermont or New Hampshire, and Rhode Island is pretty small so we could annex them. Also, we would get rid of Western Massachusetts. Other than that we could all survive if we went off the grid because we also have the highest amount of recorded hunters and fisherman in the Nation as well. Ehhh... this depends on whether or not Virginia sides with the US, since both Maryland and Virginia have the most military bases of any state. Maryland has the Coast Guard's only drydock, Virginia has Norfolk- Maryland has Andrews which has: F-22's, Tactical Squadrons, Air Force One, Marine One. Aberdeen which is a large proving ground for the US Army and the US Navy's test pilot school which trains NASA astronauts at PAXNAS. Virginia on the other hand has Fort A.P. Hill which has a armored division / mechanized division, Mount Weather which houses FEMA and is the US Government's fall back location in case of nuclear war. All in all.. Maryland and Virginia would !@#$ each other up. DC would need Virginia. Or DC would need Maryland. Quote It's not how hard you try, it's if you succeed.
