Following emergency peace talks between the European Federation and the Nether Kingdom of Folgrath, an agreement was made. Below are the articles. Folgrath shall release the prisoners from the Durotan vessel, and will compensate Durotar for the vessel. Folgrath shall make its existence public to the world. All involved parties shall order their militaries to stand down. Folgrath and Europe shall guarantee each other's independence in unprovoked defensive wars. Folgrath and Europe shall allow an exchange of scientific and magical experts and knowledge.

The European Federation is a nation committed to the ideals of freedom and justice for all. It represents these ideals better than any other major nation, but it still has room to improve. Sometimes, the path to fulfil such ideals is obvious; legalising same-sex marriage or providing healthcare to the poor is an obvious correct step. Other times, it is less obvious. But no matter the challenges ahead, the Federation shall face them with full confidence in its ability to create a better world. Recently, the European Parliament has addressed numerous important bills. Below are the results. An immediate investigation into the likely effects of the legalisation of human genetic engineering. Passed in the House 394 to 126, with 74 abstentions. Passed in the Senate 73 to 17. Legalising and taxing recreational marijuana nationwide for those over 18, effective immediately. Passed in the House 390 to 68, with 136 abstentions. Passed in the Senate 65 to 25. Legalising, regulating and taxing sex work nationwide, effective immediately. Passed in the House 340 to 234, with 20 abstentions. Passed in the Senate 55 to 35. The expansion of the high-speed rail connecting the nation's major urban centres. The following advances were made: The virus was retested on mice with cystic fibrosis, this time with immunosuppressants. The disorder was removed from 78% of mice, but 15% of mice died from complications stemming from a weakened immune system. A refining of the process is necessary. A non-obstructive earpiece was patented, which automatically translates speech from a foreign language into the user's spoken language. The civilian and military applications are obvious, and the Federation's efficiency in uniting linguistic groups is expected to skyrocket, boosting the economy. For now, the sale of devices is tightly restricted, with translators going to Durotar only. Experiments were made in using quantum encryption, especially quantum key distribution.

Noticing the increased ship presence, Federation jets passed the information to their nation and to Durotar. In an attempt to defuse tensions and resolve things peacefully, a single civilian vessel moved into the area, carrying a white flag and an ambassador. They would attempt to communicate to the enemy the desire to negotiate.

The Federation flies unmanned surveillance drones over the area of the attack, and the land near it. The navy is deployed a safe distance away, and made ready to respond quickly to orders.

The European Federation, like the European Union before it, was founded not just for the sake of unity and prosperity, but to defend the rights of all individuals. For many years, it or its predecessor had made it clear that no matter what race, gender, or any other benign or arbitrary group one belonged to, they would be protected. But perhaps it was not yet clear to the world that the European Federation also believed in defending human rights without regard for location. Of course, there were still practical constraints. No amount of will would be able to get Afghanistan to embrace gay rights in a decade. For now, smaller victories would have to be enough. And where better a place to start than the Federation's own backyard? Democracy and civil rights had regressed in Europe in recent years, most notably in Hungary. For now, war was off the table, but the EF could throw its weight around in other ways. Hungary would only be allowed to trade with the Federation if its President agreed to relinquish his dictatorial emergency powers after health experts agreed that Hungary was in the clear with the coronavirus, and to only use his emergency powers to combat the pandemic, rather than to roll back minority rights.

Further advances were made, some of which are listed below. Scientists tested a genetically modified virus on mice to rid them of cystic fibrosis. It removed the disorder from 54% of mice, but 39% of mice experienced health complications. 28% died. More animal testing will be necessary before human testing becomes ethical. The terminally ill patient who received a genetically modified pig lung was released from hospital, and declared healthy. More terminally ill patients have received pig organs since.

Despite the collapse of Israel, disorganised mass murder of non-human species continued, with thousands dying. An ultimatum to end the violence was met with no reply. For this reason, the European Federation's armed forces were deployed on a mission to end the violence quickly and decisively, without attempting a regime change that would likely fail. The Federation would have 30,000 troops at their disposal in the region. Federation cruisers fired numerous cruise missiles at enemy ships, airfields and anti-air defences, before bombing government buildings and troops, crippling the resistance of the most powerful splinter state. The majority of troop landings were made there, and it was soon put under occupation. Several more states fell, before the remaining ones agreed to let their non-human minorities travel to the occupied regions instead of killing them. After several weeks, the Federation forces returned home, having brought many thousands of refugees to Europe, and arrested several suspected high-ranking perpetrators of the genocide. The perpetrators would be judged under international law by an independent court, and those found guilty were sentenced, although not with the death penalty.

In their continuing quest to bring about a united humanity, the European Federation has been making numerous technological and scientific advances. With each one, the realm of human knowledge is expanded, and the world gets one step closer to killing at least two of the horsemen of the apocalypse. The deaths of Pestilence and Famine are already in sight, and through careful understanding and force of will, the European Federation will ensure that such a vision comes to fruition. Below are several of the recent advances made in the Federation. The refinement of a viral method, known as adoptive cell transfer, to treat leukaemia and aggressive lymphoma. It involves collecting T-cells from the patient's immune system, and infecting them with a specially designed virus, which reprograms the DNA of the T-cells to target cancer cells. The T-cells are then introduced into the bloodstream, where they will target the cancer cells. Work is being done to see if this treatment can be effectively translated to other types of cancer. The development of a viral method to edit the DNA of a donated organ, so that it will not be rejected by the patient's immune system. Human organs have not yet been edited, but the method has proved successful in tests on mice. An edited pig lung was also successfully transplanted into a terminally ill human, and at least for now, the patient is healthy. The discovery of some genes linked to intelligence. The successful erasure of cystic fibrosis alleles from 96% of recessive allele-carrying human sperm cells in a sample.

The Federation would accept that request, and also suggested that the exercise be used to practice amphibious landing operations.

After a brief meeting between European Federation President Samantha Weiz and the representative from Durotar, the two nations have recognised their agreement on numerous political and strategic issues of global importance, and have decided to formalise their agreement by entering into a defensive treaty. Articles of the Europe-Durotar Mutual Defence Treaty If either nation is brought unprovoked into a defensive war, the other must come to its defence and join it against the aggressor. If either nation feels that its territorial integrity, political independence or security is immediately threatened, the two nations will consult over military matters. The European Federation would offer 1,000,000,000 euros in aid to the USSR for humanitarian purposes, such as the cleanup for the nuclear disaster.

For the good of all sentient life, the European Federation is devoted to multilateralism and cooperation. The first step to such a goal is the establishment of diplomatic relations with the other nations of this world. For this reason, we are inviting all nations to send diplomatic missions to our nation, and to receive ours in turn. We will construct the necessary embassies for their housing. When one looks at the crises the world faces today, it is clear that they are too large for merely one nation to face on their own. Climate change and the ongoing pandemic threaten all of humanity, not just Germans, or Fijians, or Indians. Such problems must be faced by a unified world, not a divided one. Yet at the moment when humanity should be uniting, science denialists and short-sighted demagogues threaten to upend this grand effort. They must be defeated, at the ballot, in trade, or if truly necessary, on the battlefield. For they would see us divided, squabbling amongst ourselves over the last meagre scraps of a dying world. They would have us reject the social and intellectual advances of the last four centuries, to have us kill each other for the glory of an entrenched privileged few, while we drink water that is as murky as our thoughts. To this, we say 'no'. We refuse to accept that humanity is destined to fall to its own folly. We will hold the course, for the sake of all of us. And if any would sabotage the preservation of humanity for their own fleeting interests, they will be stopped. Every horseman of the apocalypse will be slain, or bow to the will of humanity. For this reason, the people of our new nation have voted to unite as one. More are free to join us. No matter one's race, gender or sexual orientation, you shall be accepted. For nothing that is human is alien to us. And to the non-human species roaming this planet: you too are welcome.
