For some time, Lumian ships had been moving towards Yemen. Securing Yemen was vital for the security of the region. Salazarstan needed a warning, to dissuade them from committing atrocities. It was necessary for Operation Quick Feet to be rapid, for two reasons: to prevent Salazarstani intervention and to avoid the bogging-down of Republic forces in a nation far from the battlegrounds of the Lumian Civil War. It had been hoped that the annexation would be peaceful, but the hard-headed theocratic government refused to back down. It would be necessary to use overwhelming force.

After a brief but intense aerial campaign, Republic marines made landfall, in conjunction with paratroop landings over key checkpoints. As a result, half of the Yemeni army, which had been deployed in the hopes of defeating the Lumian landings at the shore, was trapped between two enemy forces, and surrendered. When the Supreme Leader refused to surrender, Lumian elite forces were dispatched to capture all major government officials and generals. With their political and military leadership held hostage, the rest of Yemen surrendered without a fight.

Yemen would be put under temporary military administration, until the future of the nation would be put to a referendum. In the meantime, 50,000 Lumian troops would ensure the security of their nation's newly acquired territory.

You aren't in a position to make demands here: that is the consequence of your human rights abuses. All we've done is venture into your personal space to defeat a theocratic regime which was torturing its religious minorities. Your condescending attitude is unfitting of the position you are in, and seems to suggest a lukewarm attitude towards human rights abusers. What a surprise.

You seem to think that your current military position is superior to ours. Our distance from our mainland is no worry to us; Yemen already has established industry and supply lines, and our current forces are more than enough to defend the frontier. You don't seem to know who you're messing with. Lumia is a nation which, in its infancy, faced a coalition of totalitarian states, who wished to destroy our spark of freedom during a nuclear winter. Do you see them here today? We are a nation of 107 million people, who long ago banished from our land humanity's greatest enemy: ignorance. Your nation is built on it. It is us, who continue to push back disease, ageing and death and will ultimately defeat it. The only thing you push back is our standards of civility.

Hundreds of state-of-the-art missile interceptor batteries were placed across the territory, in anticipation of a missile strike. Simulations showed that with strategic placement, Lumia could easily intercept many thousands of missiles.

The military was placed on alert, and some planes were flown to almost touch Salazarstani airspace before making a tight turn back, so as to spook the rogue nation and show it that Lumia was serious about defending its territory. Unbeknownst to Salazarstan, all of the jets were drones programmed to destroy themselves upon capture, so that no Lumian lives would be lost in a potential engagement. But with speeds of Mach 5, homing missiles, EMP beams, high-level cybersecurity, and impressive control of movement, it was unlikely that any jets would need to explode themselves at all.

The Lumian Space Station was silently moved to an orbit near Salazarstan and made to minimise Earth-bound reflection. If need be, Ivan Salazar's arrogant broadcasts, along with commentary, would be beamed with overwhelming force to every news station. Civil unrest would be sure to follow.

The military administration distributed humanitarian aid packages to the populace and passed liberalising reforms, such as the right to universal suffrage and freedom of religion. Some reforms would be better passed further down the line, but public opinion in Yemen about the Lumian occupiers was rising rapidly. The genuine kindness of the Republic's soldiers was already leaving its mark on Yemeni society. Soon, Yemen would consider itself as Lumian as the mainland.

A large number of ships and submarines were deployed to the Mandeb Strait to confine Salazarstani ships to the Red Sea. While they arrived, thousands of deep sea smart-mines were deployed into the strait. Any ships travelling through would need authorisation from the Lumian Coast Guard, or the mines would be activated, and would travel towards their target, before detonating. All ships would be allowed to pass through, except for Salazarstani vessels.

A public notice was put out, expressing regret at the action, but explaining that it was necessary to punish Salazarstan for its actions. The notice finished by stating how Lumia hoped that the mines would be temporary.

Several reconnaissance satellites were kept watching the Red Sea, to give the Lumian military advanced warning of any of the rogue state's naval shenanigans. Other reconnaissance satellites marked and identified key Salazarstani military installations, which would either be aerially or orbitally bombarded in a war.
Meanwhile, hundreds of small drone ships with loudspeakers moved into the Red Sea, and began to blare anti-Salazarstani propaganda across the Salazarstani coast, into towns and cities.

The Dragon Empire would send an official demarche to Lumian requesting a general standown of offensive military operations in light of recent developments in Salazarstan, pending possible reformation of the standing government.
