  1. I like the idea of the resource boost. The revenue rate was just the first thing off the top of my head, and I posted it here to get more suggestions. But Atzuya, you're right, my original suggestion would be redundant.
  2. Yeah this deflates the market really fast. Look at munitions for today, this morning they were posted near $2500 ppu, now they're down near $1500 because of undercutting. If only the producers would coordinate it could really help keep sustainable profits for all categories. I was considering attempting to start some kind of e.g. "Munitions Producers Union" to try to coordinate the market development, but PW players seem to really have a hard time resolving the collective action problem, so at this point I'm assuming it's not even worth an attempt. But who knows, maybe this thread will spark some interest in organizing producers, once they see that if we work together we can control the market.
  3. Well, something like this could also be used to give a greater incentive for smaller nations to use civil.
  4. Considering the possibility of adding new options to the "civil" building category... Would universities/schools/etc. be an option? They could provide better educated, well trained citizens who could then "transfer into the working force" and bring greater wealth to their nation. For instance, the universities would undoubtedly require some significant upkeep (paying teachers, providing state scholarships, etc.) but then they could boost the overall revenue of your nation (or just the city they're built in) by a few percentage points? Similar to commerce, but an extra option to increasing the wealth of your nation. Would add more "realism" as education is a pretty important duty of the modern nation state. Thoughts, suggestions, comments on how public education could be added into the game?
  5. Fact: Codonian's fact is indeed a fact.
  6. Fact: As of 2011, Rwanda has the most female legislation members in government, with women accounting for 56% of the legislative body. Oman and Saudi Arabia are at the bottom of the list, both at 0%.
  7. Topic rated 5/5. Thank you for a good laugh, lol.
  8. Market Trends 10/26/14 Market Index: $13,421 (+$1,025) 1) Gasoline: $3,013 (+$132) 2) Steel: $2,089 (-$50) 3) Aluminum: $1,886 (+$35) 4) Munitions: $1,237 (+$110) 5) Coal: $1,086 (+$340) 6) Bauxite: $1004 (+$129) 7) Uranium: $809 (-$45) 8) Lead: $805 (+$430) 9) Iron: $631 (-$31) 10)Oil: $617 (+$23) 11) Food: $244 (-$61) Notes Overall Market Index continues to escalate. Lead and Bauxite prices are rising quickly as their manufactured counterparts are in high demand. Coal jumps two places up the list, from #7 to #5 With UPN and VoC officially declaring war on TAC, I'd predict that the market won't be slowing down any time soon. A large disparity exists between oil and gasoline cost. Oil remains relatively cheap, while gasoline has a firm grip on the #1 position. Those who are importing oil, refining it, and selling it as gasoline must be making huge profits.
  9. Definitely looking forward to the next show with all this political intrigue in Orbis. Sorry if I missed this in the comments, but when is the next broadcast?
  10. You get munitions! And you get munitions! And you get munitions! Everybody gets munitions! *Insert Oprah picture here*
  11. Oh okay, I didn't even realize that. Thanks for the observations, and Quelye, I will be happy to take it over from now on! EDIT: I fixed the order for 10.25.14 so now they are properly ranked, and they will be done properly in the future. Thanks for pointing that out!
  12. Market Trends 10/25/14 Market Index: $12,396 (+$5,403) 1) Gasoline: $2,881 (+$2,085) 2) Steel: $2,139 (+$865) 3) Aluminum: $1,851 (+$493) 4) Munitions: $1,127 (+$651) 5) Bauxite: $875 (+$74) 6) Uranium: $854 (-$22) 7) Coal: $746 (+$199) 8) Iron: $662 (+$418) 9) Oil: $594 (+$293) 10) Lead: $375 (+$161) 11) Food: $305 (+$199) Notes The market is skyrocketing right now, especially in the war resource category. Uranium is the only resource that has dropped in value. Despite high aluminum prices, bauxite has not increased very much in value. Food remains expensive. I will now be managing this thread, I will attempt to post every morning, typically around 0830 MST.
  13. Looking at your members and applications after only 1 day of existence, it looks like this alliance may stick around for a while! Keep up the good work Quelye!
  14. Stanley had a dream about giant purple penises which he learned about first-hand. As he farted and thought about snorting lines, he suddenly choked on an absurdly large chicken, which came from the incredible pleasure inside his stainless steel throat. Crying like a racist toaster, Stanley whipped out his new wallet, searching for Barack Obama. He tried desperately to stop World War Z with copious feminist claims, but alas he was forced to suck a racing truck. Meanwhile his spidey sense told him that a large plot of feminists got obliterated by a radical fellow known as only "Larry". So he got up and devised a plan to hasten in Latin, "ago", meaning ''You'', so that he could understand what kind old Bernice thought of. While he still sucked a racing truck, Stanley jumped on to the Grand Bridge to find a badass set of electronic bolas which someone was eating with Obama. Stanley sat on top of the "garbage" and he saw Larry milking a

  16. Fact: Today is Lithuanian Constitution Day!
  17. Welcome! Don't be afraid to ask questions on the forums or in-game with experienced players. I'm relatively new too, and I can tell you that the political scene is pretty diverse right now, but I'm sure all of the players in this game are happy to help you figure it all out. Best of luck to you and your nation!
  18. The biggest benefit of alliances in my opinion is protection. As I'm sure you know, when you are non-aligned you will be prey to raiding. The big question right now is if you want to fight or not. Looking at your war history, you seem to not mind raiding and war, so I'd assume you like and want to fight. Since (assuming) you want to fight, now the question is who do you want to fight FOR? There's several well-established, powerful alliances that you could join, or you could join an up-and-comer and potentially play a more instrumental role. If I were you I'd meticulously comb through the Alliance Recruitment but most importantly the Alliance Affairs forums. Look at the alliance leader's posts, see how they act, see if they represent what you want from an alliance. The Alliance Recruitment forum will tell you everything you want to hear, so I'd suggest really focusing more on that Alliance Affairs forum. Ultimately, consider the future of your nation, figure out what you WANT, and then find an alliance that aligns with those goals.
  19. Though you are all making interesting points for either side, you're missing one key concept in any discussion about nationalism. The difference between Ethnic Nationalism and Civic Nationalism. They are starkly different and each have different advantages/disadvantages. In this thread it seems like we are all using these two terms interchangeably or synonymously, and they are neither interchangeable or synonymous. In several of the posts one person will be discussing Ethnic Nationalism, like in Germany, and counter it with an argument that is linked to Civic Nationalism, like what we see in France. But those are two different types of Nationalism and should be treated and discussed differently. In my personal opinion, I think that Ethnic Nationalism has been used as excuse for exclusion, discrimination and hate, and Civic Nationalism has been used as excuse for imperialism and colonialism. I personally feel neither is good, and nationalism as a whole does more harm than good, but it's important to recognize and distinguish between the two in a discussion like this. Read the article below, I think its around 7 pages, if you want a brief look at Brubaker's dissertation and book on Civic vs. Ethnic Nationalism and how they influence the modern nation-state and the modern world. http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/t/text/pageviewer-idx?c=acls;cc=acls;rgn=full%20text;idno=heb01814.0001.001;didno=heb01814.0001.001;view=image;seq=00000013;node=heb01814.0001.001%3A3
