  1. I liked FireFox once upon a time, but it's pretty much had its day. There are other alternatives to IE now (any Microsoft software is always the least desirable of the bunch), and FireFox will always be slow on updates because it's volunteer-written open-source software. Is there any reason you aren't using Safari on a Mac? I've never had the same issues with it that I had with IE.
  2. Dedicated to Buorhann: https://politicsandwar.com/forums/index.php?/topic/10764-rose-must-really-hate-deic/ Where should you get your food? I hear that GPA makes mean hamburgers Munitions? You've got Mensa and their intellectual firepower Roz Wei can cover steel. And of course the gas that keeps BoC afloat.
  3. I think it was a problem of categorization. The confusion probably lies in the fact that the rules themselves don't state what "Alliance Announcements" is for, but it appears to be assumed from the title and the subtitle So if it isn't an announcement from a specific alliance, it shouldn't go in that forum. AKA if you are not a gov member of one of the alliances in question, you shouldn't be posting a thread in there. I'd recommend that one of the mods either make a rule requiring this, or specify in the pinned rules that general discussion threads should go in Orbis Central or National Affairs. I think the warning point to Buorhann was unfair, based on the confusion I listed above. Buorhann did not attempt to impersonate anyone from Rose, only point out an in-game event. On review, I further do not think there was any way for him to be mis-identified as a Rose member. Thor appears to agree with us above, and next time he will move offending threads, instead. Appeals take time, and likely have to be signed off by someone with very little time. I hope that Buorhann will have his warning point removed, and that discussion on the embargo can move to a more appropriate subforum. Since everyone seems scared to make their own thread in Orbis Central, I will do so. I accept any fate that follows, whether it's continued vitriol or a slap in the profile.
  4. This is the way non-flagrant violations should be handled. Glad to see from the mods. Hopefully, this will continue in the future to create a better community, rather than having mods reflexively remove, triggering a fight. It's also important that people understand that a verbal warn is a request, rather than a punishment. Also, fighting forum rules will not overturn them unless you have a legitimate reason for it.
  5. I generally don't pay much attention to the politics of any celebrity, musician or otherwise. They are generally feelers, not judgers, and often follow their friends or whatever ideology that suits their fame. Still, the Gorillaz do have an environmental bent that I can understand.
  6. Which is probably what the other offending members would have wanted. And confirmation that Pre has photos of Sheepy and the mods dancing to Jessica Black. #puppetmasterindeed More likely that the mods have been spot-checking new posts, rather than going through profiles. Most of the complaintants have been active posters.
  7. Will you be making a documentary of your travels? Mighty Mericans can't read.
  8. I think somebody was voting in all of the old polls, which bumped them on the new topics list. Both hilarious and annoying at the same time. So technically grave digging.
  9. Bah, I took worse when wrestling the women's division. Your scrawny arms can't even knock a man out on the ground. Plus your soap doesn't work.
  10. Disagreeing with my answer does not mean I did not attempt to answer it :-/
  11. Generally when you join any sort of organization, they give you resources and you take on their obligations. While I don't know what Mensa offers, at a minimum they give protection from raiders in exchange for your participation in their wars. Leaving in the middle of a conflict isn't very honorable, no matter your interest. If you took any grants or loans, you should probably be prepared to have them come asking for their money back. I'm happy to see that you've elected to fight back. That's probably all Mensa would've wanted you to do.
  12. Ah, a valid complaint. Although this is Vanguard recognizing war on Mensa. Buorhann again, isn't part of either of the alliances he named.
  13. Bias is always impossible to completely remove. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. Anonymity allows mods to take actions that strong alliances may not like. If their in-game identity is known, then they are more likely to cater to the whims of their alliance leaders and the foreign policy of their alliance. For example, if a known mod belongs to an alliance that wants to befriend another alliance, they are much less likely to warn gov members of that alliance. It's up to Sheepy and the mod team as a whole to determine partiality. It's an imperfect system, but the best one that the community can get with the resources that we have. Already above, you can see Thor admit that they could've reacted differently, and it's likely this will be discussed on the mod forums. So time and cooler heads will prevail in the end. Stay patient and allow the mods to do their unpaid jobs. The only advantage I can see to public mod identities is that players can gang up on mods that they disagree with. Tyranny of the majority is not impartiality.
  14. Yeah, fight the establishment, man. Own those warns. Or recognize that, you know, they're using their sigs to remind people of the rules, as well as getting something for their free labor. It's not totally free until everybody has Mod privileges! More like the mods finally catching up on enforcement. I stated above at least 2 reasons sig limitations could be in force (readability and mobile devices). The problem with non-enforcement is that eventually somebody will eventually come up with a sig that takes up half of your window (like a longcat or something) and will go "oh, but you let X have a sig that's 1 pixel oversized". Best to just be firm with all of it, even if you have to retroactively take out old sigs. People seem more hurt by the verbal warns than anything. Remake the sigs, if they're that important to you. It's annoying, but surely the forum rules were around when you made them originally.
  15. There's always one in every group that runs. Probably after this thread, there won't be any Mensa members that run from a fight, since I doubt this one will be allowed back in. Not very intelligent to post this without working it out privately first. Arggh seems to be in a keelhauling mood.
  16. I will agree that moving the topic would have been a more appropriate response, but it's likely the lock was a kneejerk reaction, just like much of the bellyaching and drama in this thread. Buorhann is fun and has sharp eyes, but he isn't in Rose or DEIC. Sometimes mods are human, too. They get emotional and make mistakes. Players are acting like a warn or lock has mortally wounded them, rather than simply moving the discussion to a more appropriate subforum or calmly requesting an appeal. Both of those actions would do far more for open discussion than throwing a temper tantrum which has taken attention completely away from the subject at hand. I'm hoping Sheepy or another mod will move and reopen the thread, now that there's been time for people to calm down. But they are the authority here, not me. Or maybe one of you could start a thread in Orbis Central. If that gets locked, then the caterwaulin can start.
  17. I think that the mod staff were trying to make it clear that no government member of Rose has currently declared war on DEIC, and vice versa. Alliance Affairs are one of the more serious parts of the forums because topics inside of it carry more weight than topics in other parts of the forum. Smaller alliances may not have the experience to judge which declarations are genuine, and may start a war over mistaken identity when anyone "declares war" for another alliance. This is especially sensitive when a poster is overtly hostile to one of the alliances in question, as Buorhann has repeatedly been hostile towards Rose and would celebrate if a mistaken war broke out. For an example, John Harms started a similar thread about Rose declaring on the Greens, but he started it in the spam forum. This lends it far less weight than the Alliance Affairs forum. I still think it was in bad taste, but I doubt John cares. So if Buorhann had started it in any place except for Alliance Affairs, then it's doubtful the thread would have been locked. Posters need to be more cautious in Alliance Affairs than in most of the other forums, and I'd even say it's advisable that non-gov members never start an Alliance Affairs thread to prevent dragging their own alliance into an inadvertent incident. Post all you want, just don't start a thread.
  18. Frustration is understandable, but rules must be enforced no matter how long the actual infraction has gone on. For an example it doesn't matter how long a multi has existed or how large it has grown, multis should be deleted when found. The sig rules are to keep the forums semi-readable for anyone on devices with low computational capacity (like cell phones) or low mental capacity (like me). While I'm sure your sig was the essence of beauty, your artwork becomes a detriment when it prevents members of the community from accessing the forums. I'm sure you'd like as many people to enjoy your posts as possible. I do wonder whether spoilered elements of sigs would be a decent compromise, but I'm not fully certain whether spoilers are loaded into a device or not. It would certainly clean up threads while still allowing creativity beyond the sig rules.
  19. Main issue with this is that it may not be within the capabilities of the forum software. The best thing you can do with people you don't want to talk to is just not talk to them. That gives them fewer excuses to post and makes it impossible to carry on a dialogue. Don't respond to their topics unless you are ready to deal with the stupid involved. I find a lot of the hostility towards warns really amusing. People say "it's just a joke" and "grow thicker skin", and then flip out over a single warn. If you want to live the Thug Life, then don't piss yourself when the po-po shows up. A thug does his time with dignity. Otherwise, you're outing yourself as a weak little punk.
