You're not supposed to. If you're sharing a network with someone, you're not supposed to interact like that, as per the Game Rules. The new updates prevents you from doing so, so that you won't be caught "accidentally" breaking the rules and removed from the game for cheating.

EDIT: Most things that the stat tracker tracks are updated once per day, right after update. Exceptions are a few things like infra destroyed, missiles/nukes launched/eaten, and resources used.

This is correct. Any sort of non-defeat result (for a ground battle) for your opponent will result in loss of ground control.
