Ekejen Luish
The streets of Genoa were filled with rioters, terrorists almost. Many were armed with hunting rifles, knives, or spades. Some had firearms. But they were aided, not by some random group, but by the Genoa Territory Militia (MTT). The MTT had been called to stop the violence; instead, they began assisting the armed rioters. Several police officers had been killed or injured, and had taken cover in buildings. A man had a megaphone. Into it, he shouted "Indipendenza per Genova! Otal gifete liperato Tşenowa!" The crowd repeated his chant. Genoa and the surrounding region was not a province of Rekishtein - it was the prize of a nine day long war between Rekishtein and Italy from the 1960s. It was a territory, and did not have representation in the Rekish government. But it was not representation that these radicals wanted, it was independence that they had long dreamed of. Seeing that the MTT had failed to stop the violence and were only aiding it, the Generals in charge of the Genoan Territory Rekish Military Garrison sent Federal troops to deal with the situations. Meanwhile, the MTT used their artillery weapons to fire at Rekish ships docked in and near Genoa, forcing the Rekish ships to evacuate from the docks. Armed with live bullets, the Federal troops fired into the air near the crowd. When they did not disperse, they were fired upon. The man with the megaphone was shot. The crowd began to rout, fleeing the scene. As soon as they began running away, the Federal troops stopped. However, only an hour later, the Federal troops found that the crowd and the MTT had reorganized and realized they were surrounded. An MTT soldier with a megaphone ordered the Federal troops to surrender, or be fired upon by artillery, which had been repositioned and was ready to fire upon the Federal troops. Ekejen Luish
A statement from Julja Tişul, Grand Senator and Leader of the Opposition: The Rekish Senate has determined that the acts of violence in Genoa cannot represent the entire population living within Genoa. As such, I have ordered that Genoa has a referendum regarding their independence movement. The referendum committee will have groups representing both sides of the argument, and will remain unbiased. Should the Genoa Territory vote to stay as part of Rekishtein, then I personally will do all in my power to ensure Genoa gains proper representation within the Rekish federal government. If they choose to secede, then they should do so peacefully. I personally condemn the acts of violence in the Genoa region. These people taking part in this attack in Genoa is a disgrace to themselves. If Genoa wishes to become independent, they must know that Rekishtein does not internally operate with violence. Their chances of independence would have been much greater had they come forward with a peaceful proposition for secession. Nonetheless, I speak for the Senate, and for President Luiş as I know this is one of the few things that he and I agree on, when I say that we are willing to consider the independence of Genoa as a realistic possibility, however this shall only happen if the Rekish federal troops are released peacefully back into Rekishtein. I must also address the measures taken recently by certain nations, especially Nova. I mean to make it clear that this violence in Genoa is an exception to the behavior of Rekish people. No nation in Orbis need be afraid, to any extent, of Rekish or Genoans. We promise you that Rekish people do not mean to cause any terror or crime in your nations, and there is no reason to detain them. To Nova, I must say that your actions seem, for lack of a better word, rash. Although we can confirm that there were no Rekish flights to Nova, nor Novian flights to Rekishtein, I must ask what you would have done if there had been? What if Rekish citizens had been en route to Nova, whenever your decision was made? They would have been detained for no good reason. Not only that, but your decision to detain all Rekish citizens attempting to enter the nation is not justified. An entire 16 million people should not be made out to be criminals because of the violence caused by a few hundred radicals in Genoa. If we made similar decisions to that of Genoa, no citizens on Orbis would be allowed entry into Rekishtein simply because of the crimes committed every day by thousands across Orbis. Your decision was a terrible one, and I hope you rethink it. Quote This is very small
