  1. The Republic of Latvia offers its most heartfelt condolences to the People of Kressnian Yugoslavia and firmly condemns this barbaric attack. Prime Minister Dankers offers the total cooperation of Latvian security forces, should Kressnian Yugoslavia require their assistance in tracking the movements and activities of potential suspects.
  2. Soldiers of the Latvian Guard's Police Battallion getting ready for a raid against a known mob hideout. RIGA (Latvia) - Surrender is the only acceptable compromise with mobsters, corrupt politicians and assorted criminals, Prime Minister Dankers said yesterday during his New Year speech. “The only compromise that is acceptable to me is you surrender,†Mr. Dankers said. “If you continue, I said, you might end losing not only your funds but [also] your life. Because I told the police, the law enforcers and the Latvian Guard, do not hesitate to kill, especially if you think that your life is in danger. Corruption and crime wreck the country and bring ruin to the people. It is the common enemy of all Latvians. Corrupt functionaries and members of the russian and latvian mob are the chief culprits in wrecking society and destroying the people’s minds,†he said. Hundreds of suspected members of the mob and corrupt public functionaries have been either arrested or executed since Dankers took office just one month ago. Six were executed in a single night in Riga, among them the Vice Mayor, who was shot dead by a Latvian Guard firing squad. Dozens of similar killings have taken place almost daily in Latvia, but with corruption and crime so deep-rooted, there is barely any public outrage. The Latvian Prime Minister also encouraged the public to help him in his war against crime and urged citizens with guns to shoot and kill mobsters who would resist arrest and fight back in their neighborhoods. Oskars Dankers told a huge crowd celebrating New Year's eve, in the capital city of Riga, that Latvians who would help him in the bloody war against criminality would be rewarded. “Please feel free to call the Latvian Guard, or do it yourself if you have the gun, you have my support,†Dankers said in his nationally televised speech, where he warned about an extensive corruption in the country that involved even National Police. If a mobster would resist arrest or refuse to be brought to a Latvian Guard station and will instead threaten a citizen with a gun or knife, “you can kill him,†Dankers said. “Shoot him and I’ll give you a medalâ€. Dankers also asked three police officials based in the national police camp in metropolitan Riga to resign for involvement in crimes that he did not specify. He threatened to humiliate them in public if they did not quit, and said he would order a review of dismissed criminal cases of active policemen to rid their ranks of misfits.
  3. [Excerpt from a satyrical foreign TV show] This is Latvia, and these are Latvian men! What are they doing!? They think they are a real military. The Mighty and Everlasting Latvian "Reich" has unveiled its unmatched military forces. As many as ten 80 years old Panzers and two hundred goose-stepping Latvian Stormtroopers have been taking part in a major military exercise in southern Latvia near the Lithuanian border. "Operation Latvia's Glory" or "Operation Let's Pretend", as we labeled it, is the culmination of Latvia's attempt to reassert itself as a key player among the baltic nations. One is a major regional power in the North, the Republic of Exodus, and the southern one, Lithuania, does not officially exist anymore. Therefor, Latvia is the 2nd most powerful country among the baltic States region. Silver medal, if it were the olympics. But hope is the last to die, as the saying goes. Or at least this is the message the eccentric Latvian prime Minister, Oskars Dankers, wishes to send to the people of Latvia "Latvia has the right to its place under the Sun!" he said in his daily nationalistic rant. An operating base was set up by the II. Infantry Brigade among cows and sheeps, in a rural barn in southern Latvia, in a simulated warzone recreated by Latvian craftmen and so-called military experts. While international analysts have labeled the Latvian army as "The best reenactment group of North-Eastern Europe", Latvian Stormtroopers practised trench warfare. They might aswell rescue the Central Powers in the final years of World War I. The Latvians are only 100 years old late to show up on the battlefields. Speaking to Latvia Today, Prime Minister Dankers said it was an exercise on a very large scale. "It's a sizable Assault force which we are integrating within our Armed Forces," he said. "There are 200 Latvian stormtroopers deployed in this military exercise, 10 Panzers and a plethora of transport trucks.". Except for the fact their goose-stepping is not high enough, and awfully coordinated, and the fact their weapons are 80 years old, the Latvian Stormtroopers surely show commitment to the cause of the so-called "Dankers' Revolution".
  4. The Government of the Republic of Latvia watches this with interest and concern. Signed, Oskars Dankers Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia
  5. The Republic of Latvia will send Raimonds Graube as Latvian Ambassador in the Republic of Exodus. The Latvian Government is eager to open diplomatic talks with our northern neighbors. Signed, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Unfortunately President Ulmanis lacks the authority to undertake any form of diplomatic talks on behalf of the Latvian government. Such task is entrusted to either the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or Prime Minister Oskars Dankers. Prime Minister Oskars Dankers, however, will gladly meet the Government of the Republic of Goand to open official diplomatic relations. We will also dispatch Verners Tepfers to serve as Latvian ambassador. Signed, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia
  6. [[Roleplayers are allowed to participate in this thread with press correspondents and journalists]] December 28, 2016, National Assembly Building. Prime Minister Oskars Dankers steps inside the National Assembly Building in Riga. Dressed in the grey uniform of the Latvian Guard, the Prime Minister of Latvia makes his way past the enthusiastic parliamentarians of his Latvian National Front. It is there that Latvia Liberal Party's last MPs found refuge in late December after the victory of the Latvian National Front. For the last opposition party, however - chiefly the Liberal Democrats of the Latvian Liberal Party - the halls of the National Assembly are nothing less than a gauntlet. Manning every entry and exit are members of the Latvian Guard, who, alongside the "black shirts," insult and intimidate opposition members. Members of the minority parties are not represented anymore. They have either been stripped of political authority and removed, arrested or have fled to prevent their arrest. For the remaining parliamentarians, an unhappy surprise awaited them within their voting chambers. A three-dimensional Odal Rune dominates the physical space of the room which seats 100 Deputies. It was under these conditions that parliamentarians were supposed to carry out the country's most important vote since the founding of the Republic of Latvia. Just days earlier, Prime Minister Dankers's Latvian National Front proposed the "Act for the dignity of the Latvian People" - also called the "Dankers' Act." The decisive sentence in the law read: "In addition to procedures prescribed by the constitution, laws of the Republic may also be enacted by the government of the Republic". Oskars Dankers was one step closer to establishing a dictatorship. Later in the morning, Prime Minister Dankers addressed the National Assembly Prime Minister Oskars Dankers "Over the course of the past years, our People has suffered deterioration in all sectors of life, which could inconceivably have been greater. The question as to what, if anything, could have been worse than in these times is a question which cannot be answered in light of the basic values of the Latvian People as well as the political and economic inheritance which once existed. In spite of its lack of mobility in political feelings and positions, the Latvian People itself has increasingly turned away from concepts, parties, and associations which, in its eyes, are responsible for these conditions. The number of Latvians who inwardly supported the liberal Constitution in spite of the suggestive significance and ruthless exploitation of the executive power dwindled, in the end, to a mere fraction of the entire nation. Another typical characteristic of these years was the fact that- apart from natural fluctuations-the curve of developments has shown a constant decline. This depressing realization was one of the causes of the general state of despair. It served to promote the insight into the necessity of thoroughly rejecting the ideas, organizations, and men in which one gradually and rightly began to recognize the underlying causes of our decay. The Latvian National Front was thus able, in spite of the most horrible oppression, to convert increasing numbers of Latvians in terms of spirit and will to defensive action. Now, in association with the other national leagues, it has eliminated the post-communist liberals which have been ruling Latvia since the end of the Soviet occupation, within a few short weeks and, by means of a revolution, transferred public authority to the hands of the Latvian National Front. The Latvian People gave its approval to this action. The program for the reconstruction of the Latvian Nation is determined by the magnitude of the distress crippling our political, moral and economic life. The salvation of the Republic of Latvia and its people can only be effected within the scope of general economic and social policy. The Latvian National Front is determined to find a far-reaching solution to this problem. It recognizes its historical task of supporting and promoting the thousands of Latvian workers in their struggle for their rights to exist. As Prime Minister and chairman of the Latvian National Front, I feel allied to them as the former companions of my youth. The increase in the consumer power of these masses will constitute a substantial means of reviving the economy. While maintaining our social legislation, the first step to its reform must be taken. In principle, however, every worker shall be utilized in the service of the public. The stagnation of hundred thousands of human working hours is madness and a crime which must inevitably lead to the impoverishment of all. Regardless of which values would have been created by the utilization of our surplus work force, for thousands of people who today are going to waste in misery and distress, they could represent essential values of life. The organizational capabilities of our People must and will succeed in solving this problem. However, the Latvian National Front wishes to cultivate this spirit of a will for freedom in the Latvian People. The honor of the nation, the honor of our Army, and the ideal of freedom-all must once more become sacred to the people of Latvia! Latvia wishes to live in peace with the world. To deal with the economic catastrophe, the following is necessary: 1. an absolutely authoritarian leadership at home to create confidence in the stability of conditions; 2. safeguarding peace on the part of the major nations for a long time to come and thus restoring the confidence of the people in one another. All the more, however, the Government insists upon the passage of the bill. Either way, it is asking for a clear decision. It is offering the parties of the National Assembly the chance for a smooth development which might lead to the growth of an understanding in future. However, the Government is just as determined as it is prepared to accept a notice of rejection and thus a declaration of resistance. May you, Gentlemen, now choose for yourselves between peace or war!" The National Assembly passed the law a few minutes later, and law took immediatly effect as much as it immediately marginalized the National Assembly, many of whose members, whether in fear of repression and violent retribution or simply in blind faith that Dankers would hold to his promises, had voted yes. In his own speech, the chairman of a Latvian Liberal Party spoke passionately in support of Dankers. "The fatherland is in extreme danger - we are not allowed to fail!" he said in his last statement.
  7. Coat of Arms of the Latvian Defence Force The Latvian Defence Force has preserved a strong German-Prussian military tradition. The Latvian Defence Force comes by its German influences and traditions honestly, from a decent-sized influx of German immigrants during the German occupation of Latvia and the establishment of the Reichskommissariat Ostland. In 1941, however, German influence wasn’t a precondition of adopting German military traditions. Beginning with the establishment of Reichskommissariat Ostland, the German administration worked hard to develop a serious military culture, mostly as a reaction to the disastrous conditions of the Latvian military, which failed to resist the Soviet invasion of 1940. By the time the Third Reich launched the invasion of Russia, they had succeeded, and Latvia, despite its small size, had a formidable and motivated land component; so formidable that the Latvian Legion participated in the most important battles of the Russian campaign, aswell as the heroic resistance in the Courland pocket in 1945. The Latvian Legion was one of the last units to surrender after the cessation of hostilities. Of course, the Latvians haven’t had much call to use their army since the end of the War. Finally, the Germanization of the Latvian military encouraged Latvian-Germans to take up military careers, and even though only about 5% of present-day Latvians claim German ancestry, Germans are substantially overrepresented in the Latvian officers’ corp and many officers have teutonic family names such as: Heillig, Spielman, Heine, Meissner, Geissbuhler. Despite its small size (2000 active personnel), the Latvian Defence Force is determined and well trained. They are equipped with Stg44 assault rifles, Mp40 sub-machineguns, some Kar98 bolt action rifles, and Panzerfaust single-shot anti-tank weapons . Currently they lack armoured vehicles, but plans are on the way to refurbish at least a hundred Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. B tanks (Panzer VI Tiger II). While incommensurably inferior to modern military forces, Latvian soldiers are extremely motivated by the nationalist propaganda and harsh military drills introduced by Prime Minister Oskars Dankers and its Latvian National Front party. Foreign analysts have ironically defined the Latvian Defence Force as "the strongest of the weakest military forces of Orbis", but the determination of its men and women is surely an aspect worth of note and respect. Their uniforms are reminiscent, if not identical, to the clothing of the late German Werhmacht soldiers (1943-1945). At the moment, the Latvian Defence Forces is composed of 2 Infantry divisions, divided into 5 brigades each. Their uniforms are reminiscent, if not identical, to the clothing of the late German Werhmacht soldiers (1943-1945).
  8. Agreed. Also, i know i am new to this board and i surely don't want to step over anyone's feet but.. i come from "another popular nation simulation game" where the roleplay has been totally destroyed, and brought down to total inactivity, by mindless warmongering and massive annexation of countries, and unfortunately OOC hostilities between players, thus leading good roleplayers to leave after months, sometimes years, of roleplay. My only suggestion is the mutual respect between players, and the constant remind that this is a game, a roleplay board, that in no way should be influenced or altered by "ooc" issues between players. OOC must stay out of the roleplay, because when OOC gets involved.. it really destroys the essence of roleplay, which is the personal enjoyment of the players. I think the main task of a game, any game, is to have fun, the same rule should apply for roleplay. We are here because we have fun in nation roleplaying games. I'm not saying this for any particular reason other than the previous experience "in another popular nation simulation game", which led to useless and childish drama and ooc plotting against players who were basically forced out of the boards trought random nuclear attacks and unrealistic massive invasions of space-laser-nuclear-plasma-alien-robot-spaceships and stuff like that. Mutual respect between players, and the respect for players efforts in their nation's lore, is key for the well-being and the serenity of nation roleplaying games.
  9. The Latvian Guard, Latvian National Front's paramilitary wing, has launched a massive recruitment campaign to fight youth unemployment. RIGA (Latvia) - Prime Minister Oskars Dankers signed the "Act for the dignity of the Latvian People" today at the building of the National Assembly in Riga. The Act, passed thanks to the overwhelming majority of the Latvian National Front in Latvia's Parliament, is "The first of a number of economic and social measures to ease the suffering and fight the poverty which have engulfed the Latvian Nation in the past two decades". The Act, considered by many the most important reform since the end of the soviet occupation, is set to deeply change the face of Latvia's welfare system. The private single-payer Healthcare System has been replaced by a Universal Healthcare system that redefines Healthcare as a "Basic right for the Latvian people, irrespective of their income and social status. Nobody shall be left behind, and the main task of our Healthcare system will be the well being of our men, women and children". Prime Minister Dankers also noted that "The Government's priority is to guarantee every Latvian citizen the means and the conditions to live an honourable life, with particular regards to large families. Poor families will receive 30 Orbis Notes monthly subsides for each of their children. Women, who will give our Nation the future generations of Latvians, must be regarded as the most important pillars of our society, and the Latvian National Front will defend their rights as far as humanely possible. This reform will give young mothers the support of public Institutions should they require any economic and social assistance." Another important revolution is set to change the unemployment subsides system, engulfed by rampant corruption, inefficiency and years of mismanagement by previous Latvian administrations. "Every Latvian citizen who suffered unvoluntary unemployment, illness or inability, will receive a monthly subside of 150 Orbis Notes. Meanwhile, the Government will provide all the necessary vocational training in order to improve their skills, and give the unemployed a renewed chance to find a suitable job. As promised, the Latvian National Front's priority is to restore the dignity of Latvian workers, who will be the protagonists of the Golden Century that is set to give Latvia its place under the sun." Prime Minister Dankers added. The Government also announced the construction of new public housing buildings in the outskirts of Riga. The priority will be given to homeless citizens and all the Latvians living under the line of poverty who struggle to pay rents and bills. "It is unacceptable, i say totally unacceptable, that a large part of the population is denied the right to live a dignitous life. The Latvian people have the right to a house, a job and participation in the political and public life of the country. For this reason, the Government of Latvia has ordered the construction of new public housing buildings, which will be completed in record times, to provide its homeless and its impoverished citizens a shelter. This measure, as part of the Act for the the dignity of the Latvian People, along with unemployment benefits and vocational training, is set to restore our dignity as a Nation, and put the needs of the Latvian people as the first priority of my Government." In a move that is set to spark outrage among the supporters of free market, the Government has nationalized the Central Bank of Latvia, the Latvian Hydrocarbons and Energy Company and the Latvian Railway Company. "Latvians have the right to control the companies that provide basic services, such as energy, transportation and financial loans. The aforementioned companies will never again pursue the interests of their foreign shareholders, or the interests of their CEOs. From this day, the companies that provide vital services for the Latvian Nation will be under direct control of the democratically elected Government of Latvia, in the interest of latvian workers." Dankers added. While the opposition as labeled Prime Minister Dankers' measure as "utterly populist", the Latvian National Front defends the Act as "The most important and decivise effort for the dignity and the well-being of the workers and the poor.". As expected, a survey showed a plebiscite of 98,6% of citizens support the reform and praised Prime Minister Dankers for his efforts and his political and social agenda.
  10. The Republic of Latvia will send Ambassador Vilis Spandegs to represent Latvia in Kressnian Yugoslavia, and will gladly welcome your Ambassador here in Riga. Signed, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Latvia thanks the United Kingdoms of France for their formal recognition. We will provide France a suitable building in Riga to open the French Embassy, and we will also send Rudolf Klinsons as Latvian Ambassador in France. Signed, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia
  11. Oskars Dankers, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia "I would like to thank with all the strenght of my Latvian heart, the hundreds of thousands of Latvians who voted for the popular nationalist movement: the Latvian National Front, who turned their backs to the defamation by TV channels, and the liberal press. They were against us all this time. They accused us in the worst possible way. On their TVs they showed only people who didn't receive one third of the votes we got. They despised the Latvian people, and the Latvian people despised them. In brief: the attempts of the liberal elites to subdue the Latvian Nation continues. The national resistance of the Latvian National Front against the liberal elites will continue too. Both inside and outside the parliament, we will continue the struggle for a Latvia liberated from speculators and corrupt politicians and public functionaries. For a Latvia independent and proud. For a Latvia without the slavery of poverty, and the surrender of our national sovereignty to the occult powers of Capitalism. For a Latvia that will not be a social jungle because of the increasing crime rates and the thousands of latvians living in conditions of extreme poverty. For a Latvia that will not tolerate the fact 1 child out of 4 cannot afford education. For a Latvia that will not tolerate the fact 1 Latvian family out of 3 lacks the money to provide their children a high protein meal at least once a day. For a Latvia where youth unemployment has reached 50%. For a Latvia where its own citizens are left behind, struggling to meet the end of the month, whereas banks and multinational companies exploit its natural resources. I have a phrase to tell you. And for those who will not understand it, i will be more specific: 'Veni, vidi, vici!'. It means: you accused me, you defamed me, you silenced me, I defeated you. The victory of the Latvian National Front is a victory against the tyrantship of the liberal elites and the mass media. Against the junta of political correctness and their liberal press, the fight of the Latvian people will continue. In the end, i want to dedicate this victory to all of our brave lads, who wear the black shirts with the ancient Odal rune, symbolising several values of which are of central importance for the Latvian National Front: kinship, family and blood unity. I dedicate this victory to the men and women of the Latvian National Front were running in villages, waving the Latvian flag, for the Latvian National Front. For Latvia! The new golden century of the Latvian people is rising. For those who betray this homeland, the time has come to fear. We are coming! That's all i had to say, and nothing more. Shame on our sychophants! Shame on our accusers! We are Latvian patriots, we are nationalists, and we don't let anyone question that. The fight continues even stronger, inside and outside the parliament. Heil Latvia! Strong and Free!" The Comment on "Latvia Today", the country's most important newspaper. RIGA (Latvia) - Oskars Dankers’s victory in November’s election came as a shock to many in Latvia’s political establishment. But among ordinary Latvians, his rise on a Latvia-first, anti-liberal, anti-globalization platform was much less surprising. That’s because the right-wing nationalist party has boomed in popularity in the small Baltic country since the economic crisis and the more recent food crisis. While the far-right party had long had a foothold in rural Latvia, nationalists have rapidly gained ground in the main urban settlements where such groups have historically had little sway. Even in Riga, where far-right nationalism has been taboo since the Second World War, the Anti-Capitalist, Anti-Globalisation Latvian National Front party won an absolute majority of the vote in general elections earlier in November. The Latvian Liberal Party has failed, according to Prime Minister Dankers, to address the anger and the frustration of the Latvian people. “This election result gives courage for the Latvian People†read Prime Minister Dankers’s statement on November 25. "The Latvians did not believe the manipulations of their mainstream media, and Latvian citizens had the courage to make their decision in the election booth themselves and not to remain resigned at home.†The Latvian National Front platform is a collection of populist national and socialist right-wing themes: Welfare reform, nationalization of banks, closed borders and a return to the Latvia of yesteryear, before what many of its members and supporters refer to as the “Impoverishment†of Latvia. The party seeks to reduce unemployment by establishing government control over the economy, and poverty by granting privileges and priority to latvian citizens who filled a request for an apartment in one of the country's public housing buildings.
  12. The Government of Latvia is will be pleased to open diplomatic relations with your Nation, and we will send Ludvigs Bolsteins as Ambassador of Latvia to the Kingdom of Evenstar. We will also provide an adequate building and location for the opening of your Embassy in the city of Riga. Signed, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Prime Minister Donkers gladly accepts Her Majesty's and His Majesty's invitation. Mr Donkers expresses profound admiration for the Swedish Nation, praising the friendly relationships between the Latvian and the Swedish people since the late XVIII Century. Signed, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia
  13. Whatever one thinks of Latvia’s Prime Minister Oskars Dankers and his party, the Latvian National Front, the overall condition of Latvia's economy and infrastructures looked much scarier. The small baltic Republic has suffered years of economic stagnation, high unemployment, rampant poverty and a dramatic increase of crime rates. On the streets of Riga, Latvia's capital city, the frustration of ordinary citizens is palpable. Almost two decades of corruption and political instability have angered the low and middle classes, prompting them to support the far-right movement which promised order, prosperity and peace. The Latvian National Front has a paramilitary wing, currently called the “Latvian Guardâ€, reminiscent of the Latvian Legion of the wartime period, famous for its struggle against the Soviet occupation. The Latvian National Front is also the most popular political group among young people, according to polls, and its leaders include savvy and charismatic politicians, who do not look out of place in any leading government role. Prime Minister Oskars Dankers, wearing the uniform of the "Latvian Guard" The Latvian National Front enjoys a constitutional majority in the Latvian Parliament, and uses its position to push a series of controversial reforms, including a new constitution, passed without any broader cross-party consensus. The party has also made moves toward a massive centralization of power, placing Latvian National Front loyalists in positions of influence even in nominally independent branches of government, such as the central bank. Latvia’s institutional backsliding is also evident from a number of other indicators, including its recent downgrade on a recent report which reclassified Latvia from the category of “Consolidated Democracies†to “Semi-Consolidated Democracies.†Their campaign strategies are superior to other parties, and they are tackling issues other parties dare not touch. Riga, for example, has been covered with posters addressed to immigrants, warning them not to take the Latvian people’s jobs, and asking them to respect Latvia’s culture and laws. Written in Latvian, their true audience seems to be Latvian nationalist voters. The government is also building a wall on border to stop the inflow of illegal immigrants, who — as Prime Minister Dankers suggested — should “be treated as criminals.†Oskars Dankers built up his image on a radical nationalist theme. His party associated with far-right movements and barely-legal political movements for years. Now with the new legitimated majority in Latvia's Parliament, only the packaging changed. Dankers’s leadership still associates itself with the radical paramilitary group "Latvian Guard". An MP of the Latvian National Front had the audacity to call for the listing of people with foreign origins and see how many of them poses a national security threat. This he did in the parliament and got away with it. As this the other MPs who praised the effort of collabirationist political figures and volunteers of the Latvian SS Legion during the German occupation of Latvia, spoke up against the immigrant community. "Guards" of the Latvian Guard parade in the streets of Riga President Karlis Ulmanis serves as a merely ceremonial figure, representing the unity of the Latvian Nation. He is subordinated to the will of the parliament of Latvia, the National Assembly. He is rarely involved in the political choices of the government, and he is often seen during public ceremonies. The people of Latvia respect him, and so does the National Assembly and the Latvian National Front, probably due to his lack of authority and control over the choices of Prime Minister Dankers rather than genuine admiration and respect for Latvia's Head of State. The Latvian Liberal Party holds less than 20% of the National Assembly and its activists seem quite pessimistic. They predict that Dankers might be on its way to becoming a fully fledged authoritarian leader, following his victory in November's elections.

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the re-establishment of the Republic, the country has experienced almost two decades of instability, economic stagnation, and worrisome civil unrest, which led to the rise of the national populist political party "Latvian National Front". In the recent general elections, the "Latvian National Front" seized the absolute majority of the National Assembly with 84,3% of the votes. The Party is characterized by strong nationalist and populist views. Latvia is not part of any international organization. The society of Latvia is closed and traditionalist.
