YeshuaChrist
The NSA has come under scrutiny recently for the reason that it is keeping tabs on your personal internet search habits, but is it really that bad? The Paranoia of the NSA is founded from one reason and one reason only: They know you look at pornography and other related material. So, what is the government going to do with this information? Perhaps expose it to your closest friends and family? absolutely not, The NSA exists for security reasons whether someone is planning to plot a coup against the government or an incoming terrorist attack. Due to the NSA, we can prevent these attacks much more effectively than without it. Another worry is that America will become like the society portrayed by George Orwell in 1984. One should know that this situation is highly unlikely and that Orwell used this technique because he really hated totalitarianism. Dystopian fiction should not be the cornerstone of one's values and beliefs. One should also know that the United States is not a totalitarian state; it can see this via Gay Rights Movements and the legalization of Marijuana in Colorado. So, Why is your privacy an issue when dealing with the state? They are not actively involved in your personal life feeding discrediting info to that one girl/guy you like. The State doesn't interfere with the life of the individual unless it directly threatens the state. Is it simply because Privacy is a right? Is the individual really that selfish that he doesn't have a sense of duty to the state? Is the state oppressive when it asks a little back? TL;DR: The NSA isn't an evil spying organization and most Americans aren't that patriotic when it comes to citizen duties.
cxcxxxxx
I would have to agree entirely. In fact this isnt a recent happening, governemts have conducted espionage since the time when we were struggling to carve out existance in the Fertile crescent. Most of the anti-NSA movement, atleast on the internet seems to stem from people who wish to portray themselves as more intelligent, or that they are free thinkers. "Im not part of the many, IM resisting" is with out a doubt the most fallacious thing ever said. By resisting your showcasing how little you actually know of politics, patriotism and life itself. dissonanz
It doesn't matter whether it harms us or not. Privacy and freedom are essential human rights which cannot be traded for anything else. I would have to agree entirely. In fact this isnt a recent happening, governemts have conducted espionage since the time when we were struggling to carve out existance in the Fertile crescent. What a ridiculous argument. It's fine because it always happened? That's like saying "murder is fine, don't punish it, it happens anyway" How awfully backwards of you. If we never critized the way things are, if we never pushed for freedom we'd still be stuck in dark times. And stop that strawmanning. Nobody tries to be a special snowflake. In fact we pride ourselves on being part of the many since it means that the authoritarian brainwashing doesn't work anymore. Although it is just as fallacious to suggest that as it has always been done, it is correct to continue to do so...an argument of tradition! As a modern libertarian I think this act is egregious as one of our fundamental human rights is being able to bat one to the most horrendous, eye-wrenching tentacle pornography without our coworkers or even THE GOVERNMENT giving us a dirty look from Jen's cubicle over the other side of the room. !@#$ Jen. *******THIS IS A PERSONAL ATTACK ZONE BEWARE****** . Hereno
Is the individual really that selfish that he doesn't have a sense of duty to the state? A sense of duty in return for what? Propping up the wealthy at the expense of the masses? Global imperialism and world wars? If people ought to have any "duty" in regard to the state it should be to abolish it. You don't really expect the masses to cooperate on their own without some type of governing body do you? Whenever humans decide to cooperate, they agree to work within certain boundaries, i.e: Laws. WISD0MTREE
The government shouldn't know what we are doing, unless they have a suspicion and get a warrant. I don't like people going through my life. It's not computers collecting the info, it's people. People analyze it and find if I am a threat. They see everything I do online. What comes next? Drones in more states? Then more cops. Then airport security at Walmart. Really want that?

Man is inherently neutral, and our to do whatever promises the most profit. This has nothing to do with psychopaths. Good or evil don't exist. Only profit matters. We have certain values because they give us advantages and we discard others because they don't. The free market can applied to everything. If the values you promote as "good" don't offer enough they disappear. Deal with it. People like you are why the terrorists have won. Nope. It's people like YOU! They want to kill Americans and have them live in fear, also called suffering. The people who supposedly did 9/11 were on the FBI watch list. Now, if you don't mind people stalking you, give me your address so I can come over and watch you.
