Vicente Martinez
Following a meeting of the military council of Brazil, the Brazilian air force has decided to decommission 50 of it's HP-65 VTOL jets,a model that was first launched in 1965,the plane was once the staple of the Brazilian fighter arsenal, with 500 models manufactured between 1965-1985 (and 440 scrapped or sold). The decision made after the military realized that these planes were obsolete and were not worth the yearly costs of maintenance, upgrading and repairs, which amounted from 10 million to 15 million dollars annually. The money saved from the planes will go towards developing infrastructure in many rural settlements across Brazil, including roads, housing, schools and clinics, and a quarter of the money will go towards subsidies for small and medium farmers, however there is some controversy regarding this plan as cocoa farmers are excluded from receiving the subsidies due to the current drug crackdown.
