The Implication, starring BK and TCW (inspired by this)
    C9MudxZ.jpg

*TCW and BK meet at the start of the war*

TCW: What do you mean, what do we need a meatshield for?

BK: Why in the hell do you think we just spent all political capital on a sphere? The whole purpose of forming a sphere in the first place was to get the micros all nice and treatied topside so we can take em down to a nice winnable war in the midtier… and you know they can’t refuse – because of the implication.

TCW: Oh. Uhhhh ok. You had me going there for the first part, the uh second part kind of threw me.

BK: Dude, dude. Think about it, they’re out in the middle of nowhere with some alliance they barely know, you know, they look around and what do they see? Nothing but enemy alliances! ‘Ah, there’s no where for me to run, what am I gonna do, refuse to fight?’ *laughing*

TCW: Ok… that just seems really dark.

BK: No, no it’s not dark, you’re misunderstanding me bro.

    TCW: I, I think I am yeah.

BK: Yeah, you are. Because if the alliance refused to fight, then the answer obviously is no. But the thing is, they’re not gonna say no, they would never say no, because of the implication.

TCW: Now you…you’ve said that word implication a couple of times… what implication?

BK: The implication that things might go wrong for them if they refuse to fight for me. You know, not that things are gonna go wrong for them, but they’re thinking they will.

TCW: *quietly* But… it sounds like they don’t want to fight for you…

BK: Why are you not understanding? They don’t know whether or not they want to fight, that’s not the issue!

TCW: Are you going to hurt these alliances?

BK: *angrily* No I’m not going to hurt these alliances! Why would I ever hurt these alliances, I feel like you’re not getting this at all! Goddamn!

*pan to Fark staring at them*

BK: Well don’t you look at me like that, you certainly wouldn’t be in any danger! *laughs*

TCW: So they are in danger!

BK: No one’s in any danger! How can I make that any more clear to you? It’s the implication of danger! You know what, let’s drop it. Just sign your treaties and go!

Nuclear Attack should work exactly the same as the other options.

My best guess is that it's some sort of issue on your end. If the other options are working, that suggests that JavaScript is enabled and working properly (which would be troubleshooting step #1.)

Can you try another browser to see if that fixes the problem? If so, it's likely an issue on your end. My best guess as to what the issue would be is some sort of add-on or extension interfering with how the page is loading/operating.

I'll try Chrome and see if the issue pops up again and report back here if so.

  3. This is probably an Alex request (in that some database queries might be necessary), but I was wondering if anyone has done a study of the percentage of nukes that successfully land when the target nation has Vital Defense System.  The "advertised" success rate of interceptions has always been 20%, but anecdotally at least, the percentage of intercepts has gone up fairly dramatically over the past year or so, and it would be interesting to see some numbers on a month by month basis since VDS was introduced into the game to see if that is in fact the case, or if people are simply complaining more about it.

  4. In Wars, when choosing Nuclear Attack option from the Select Action menu, nothing happens.  Selecting another option immediately loads that page, then browsing back to the Wars menu and selecting Nuclear Attack again results in the appropriate page loading.

It is a random thing in that it doesn't happen every time, but often enough that it is noticeable.  Using Win 10 and version 68.0.1 of the Firefox browser if that helps troubleshooting.

Is attacking someone who was planning to roll you aggressive or defensive? I’d argue that completely solid proof that someone is about to hit you warrants a defensive strike.

Hypothetically speaking, since I will not confirm any of your assumptions, if I knew a hit was planned, I'd pull out my trusty copy of the treaty web and have a long talk with my allies.  Traditionally around here, the treaty web favors the defense.  Planning and executing a successful offensive war is much more work, even if you are already stripped score inflating infra and have a full military.  The attack on BK and TC was much more spur of the moment.  So either those involved quickly figured that their diplomatic position was just that weak, and they might as well go out with a bang, or they acted in haste and now they'll pay the price.

I love how BK needs basically the entire treaty web to beat 3 spheres, 2 of which just emerged from a huge war.

Two of which just emerged from a huge war and went in offensively against BK and TC, knowing the treaty web implications.  You kinda of left that very important point out there, chief.  Not sure if very brave or very stupid.  We'll find out in the end.  ?

Not surprised. BK/Cov would never take a fair fight cause they know they would lose.

They’re like the one kid who talks shit then comes bawling to daddy when someone hits them back lul

Nah man, it's simple.  You're treating this as a playground.  We're treating this as a gunfight.

You can blame TKR-side leadership for a lot of the slow down. There's been a plethora of times where there has been no activity in the peace talks channel for weeks at a time. They've also accepted terms, and then gone back and said no they don't accept those terms without anything changing from there. It's been made clear several times that the terms are not going to be removed, and the things which have held up talks the most are effing ridiculous. Protecting the "honor" of VM-ers because you're such a delicate pile of garbage that you don't like them being labeled as "war dodgers" and want to protect their VM-protected infra while sacrificing rebuild time/resources of hundreds. Wanting to keep your trade bot active and still requiring art for to return trades because of "tradition" is a bad joke. If TKR was not in these peace talks I'm confident the war would have ended at least a month ago, if not 2.

The fault for all of this rests on Adrienne. You're largely inactive in peace talks. Days and weeks go by without you making further effort. You cling to trying to protect your trash while doing disservice to the rest of the members. You're alliance has never really lost before, and are apparently incompetent as to how it works. As someone who has played these shit games for way too long, there are no harsh terms in the original surrender. Honestly the GoB one was the harshest of them, but even the child like reasoning skills of SRD were able to find a solution working with Ripper. But not Adrienne, you god damn dumpster fire of a leader. Step down. Give someone else the charge, you have 97 other members one of them is bound to have a brain because you sure as shit do not.

To Justin's point you can assign blame to either side, and while I might be biased some there lies a major issue. This is IQ's first time winning, really. Lets say they flinch and give in to white peace after making such a point about terms, it shows anyone can just stick it out if they really don't want the terms. You  can claim the same is TKR's side can be shown to give in to terms, but that's a part of losing. There was a hiccup in the TEst-Guardian term where we wanted them to write a couple paragraphs about something deity-flavored, they decided they didn't want to do the cosmetic/joke sort of term so we offered them 5B to get out of it or they could present a counter option in flavor with what was originally there. They simply chose to go with the original term. But that shows how quickly some of the speed bumps and stops can be resolved. Honestly it could have been done in a day or twos time should leadership been more active about it.

tl;dr Yes it's stupid things have gone on this long. The fault largely rests with TKR. I hope their allies leave them to burn in the trash heap they've left them to burn in for extra months.

Personally I think it should just be agreed both sides don’t declare new wars after both sides feel they got enough hits in & neither wants to do terms.

Ok, make the case for why it's essentially a draw.  Math says 'no', but let's hear it.

Ah, it's the old "Everyone in the coalition submit the terms you want and we'll just forward them all along"

Even if that were true, and it isn't, it'd be helpful if the other side made something resembling a serious counter offer, or even showed up in the formal Discord channel for peace talks.  Perhaps there is something going on in some back channel, but so far as I can see, the slaughter will continue for as long as people remain overly optimistic about their position.  I'm comfortable either way.

I’m gonna be the first to say it, this isn’t it chief. As much as I want to roll BC, I don’t see justifying burning an alliance for the idiocracy of the few. There’s plenty of good people in that alliance that don’t deserve it and the CB is non-existent. IQ has much better things to do than to kick someone while they’re down, but if they feel this is the right course of action then best of luck to both sides. Just don’t drag this out unnecessarily long, you’re only hurting them and yourself by doing so.

How many alliances have gotten rolled because of "the idiocy of a few"?  More than I care to count at the moment.  Hopefully those responsible for BC getting rolled (and you know who you are) learn from their mistakes.

Lots of Allies don’t mean lots of friends. Lack of allies doesn’t mean lack of friends.

Oh Kriegskoenig has lots of friends in addition to allies, but he also speaks truth.  It just struck me that Thrax seems envious that  Kriegskoenig's friends are happy to call him that in public, where Thrax has to resort to implying he has lots of friends, but few of them actually state so publicly, present company excluded.

  11. Acadia recognizes this as the second phase of a war that started with Terminal Jest and after a pause, continued.  Many of the same players were on the battlefield for both.

As such, I am proud of my alliance and how it performed through both phases, winning a decisive victory in the first phase, while accepting the consensus among the coalition that white peace and a lengthy NAP was best to end the second.  Sure we go back and review some of the individual wars and point out some flubs, goofs, head scratching moments, etc. but then every alliance that participated in either phase can say the same thing.

I'd like to thank our allies, and the members of the IQ coalition generally, and congratulate them all on a good effort.

To those we fought against, thanks for keeping it entertaining.

You refused to peace out the individual nations from IoM when they left JEst. You did not declare on IoM as an alliance.

Vosunda joined the Knights Templar after leaving JEst. I have been informed that you have not even attempted to go after him. This looks like a classic case of selective application of policy and flexing on the weak. Are you afraid?

It's almost like IoM sanctioned participation in JEst and had no intention of punishing anyone who went rogue and that fact was recognized and those not returning to the "nest" are having a different outcome.  Need some bleach to get the blood off your hands?  I recommend a good skin moisturizer after, bleach tends to dry the skin something terrible.
