The management of the Athretvari Jellyfish would like to thank you for highlighting this issue!

A simple formula might be 10% of host's ticket sales (not winnings, just 10% of earnings for hosting) for the losing away team.

  2. -when-

It's not paranoia at all when you realise that GPA has total economic superiority and a stupid magical immunity from military action.

Our banks are bleed dry from epic battles and we are always concerned about being attacked at any given moment.

Not so for GPA! They profit from the wars, and their bank has almost never experienced hardship.

Isn't this evidence that 'war just for war's sake' philosophy is actually damaging, and not constructive, to your own nation's and alliance's development?
  3. Burke wiped the sweat from his forehead. He wasn’t looking forward to giving Elena Ripley the news, but he was happy it was the small cost he had to pay for getting out of the task himself.

Elena’s luxury apartment block overlooked a small marina choked with large sleek yachts. She lived in the posh Paloma district of Cantos d’Aves, reserved for the Technate’s second-tier officials. He could barely see the first ocean breakwall far off in the distance.

Elena opened her door, “Burke? What are you doing here?â€

“Can I come in? I’ve got some news.â€

    .

Burke hesitantly placed a hand on Elena’s shoulder to comfort her.

“Don’t touch me you coward. I know they gave you this assignment. How’d you get out of it you little weasle?â€

“Elena! Seriously! I had nothing to do with it. I...â€

    “Get out.†She opened the door.

Burke dropped a thick dossier on her breakfast table, “Everything we have on the Citadel and Mad Max.†He turned to her, “Be caref...â€

    “Get out!â€

  4. To the Government of Mad Max, The Citadel

From Elena Ripley, Chief Secretary of the Department of Cultural Interaction of the Athretvar Ministry of Foreign Interactions

Respecting Participation in The Citadel Cultural Event

    Dear Excellencies,

Greetings and salutations from the Government of Athretvari. We are a relatively small but cultured nation just emerging upon the international stage, being very desirous of further understanding the many diverse cultures and civilizations of Orbis.

The Government of Athretvari would greatly appreciate an opportunity to participate in this event, in the hopes of gaining a better appreciation of Mad Max and the great nation he leads from halls of The Citadel.

We appreciate this opportunity and thank his excellency Mad Max.

    Sincerely,

    E.R., Cs-DCIMFI

  5. Give this a try. Previous RPs have no set rules and military was very vague because the RP hosts didn't established the rules., so I am going to host RP with written rules and how to play it. If you have ideas, shoot me.

    https://politicsandwar.com/forums/index.php?/topic/11802-rp-world-map/

If you're starting a new RP, you should have two threads—one Out-of-Character thread for rules, sign-ups and OOC discussion, then a second thread for the actual In-Character RP posts. This will keep it "clean" and more manageable for you.
  6. I will be joining your roleplay then. Not that I have a choice...

    You have my support.

    Woo! NationStates!

I actually recall seeing several tags of that group during my far-too-many years at NationStates (I personally stayed at A Modern World (AMW) & Atlas.)

    +1, will side with.

Well, we already have three people wanting to join the new RP, success is just over the horizon...

Cool beans. I'll get to work then and get in contact with some queries and details soon.

    *snip*

For when you're interested in seeing what a real RP looks like—

    Part I (Pre-Nuclear War): http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=240539

    Part II (Post-Nuclear War): http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=284492

  7. Except I just did.

This Here is my Show, and you can forget if you think I'm going to let some two-bit nation-states playing noob come in here and take that away from me. >:(

You can keep your "RP", if you desire to call it that. LOL... I'm not at all interested in participating with god-modders. This one is all yours, bud. But maybe I will start my own, and we can compare which is still running and better in the long run. Up for the challenge?

  8. The problem with this is two-fold;

The game allows people's nations to be placed practically on top of one another, as well as nations to be thrown into the sea.

    Also, to point out another flaw with this otherwise alright concept;

The game employs continent-specific resources. This means that if you want to occupy another nation in the roleplay, you're hurting your actual in-game nation's economics or resource exploitation if it's on another continent which houses resources that you don't want to mine/etc.

    Either way, though..

I don't know a proper answer to this issue, other than to in my iteration of the map 'be reasonable'.

I'unno. I think part of the problem comes from the fact that it's a world map of Earth, as opposed to a map of something fictive.

You can deal with the "continent specific resource" issue by just assigning a player's actual in-game resources to whichever territory he/she occupy on the RP map. OR create a new planet with continents with their own mix of resources. (That's if resources will actually mean anything practical in the RP, for example if the OP rules state you must account for resources, then they are important. Otherwise, they are just RP fluff and it can be assumed that players get their resources "some how".)

The best bet would be a non-Earth map that basically "resets" what territory is truly valuable in the grand sceme of the RP and what's not. The premise of the RP could be a near future colonization, forcing each player to "start from scratch" and keeping the tech level within understanding.

  9. Seems like the expert has come to save us....

I was the OP and cartographer for an open RP that ran three years straight on Nationstates.

    Our map: http://www.gothamloki.com/nconmap.htm

Sadly ended when a bunch of newbies demanded RP rule-changes to off-set the fact they needed to start off small while there were many big established nations already in the RP. The OOC debate got so heated it destroyed the RP.

But this is totally off topic. My bad.

  10. RP AMATUERS, The whole lot of ya! :)

1: The person who draws the map, owns the map. (Usually the OP.)

2: The OP of the RP is god of the RP in that he/she sets the rules of the RP.

3: The OP's rules must address two basic RP actions—initial claim, and how to expand.

4: OP's rules must also address Military Size. This can be done two ways—Use in-game numbers, OR allow each nation at sign-up to declare a population and a max military of 10% thereof. (The second option is only advised for a small group of players that know and respect each other. Otherwise, in-game stats are best in that they are most “impartialâ€.)

5: The OP must enforce the RP rules and moderate battles.

6: Players must consent to battles. Either an agreement before each RP war, OR players understand that by being on the RP map, they automatically give that consent. (The first option is only advised for a small group of players that know and respect each other. Otherwise, the second option is best to keep the RP “moving alongâ€.)

7: Unless otherwise stated in the OP’s RP rules, anything possible in the real-world should be possible in the RP. Same goes for restrictions on what is possible. (Example, conquering neighboring chunk of 1000 sq miles IS possible with just 50,000 soldiers and 1000 tanks. Conquering half of Africa with that number IS NOT possible.)

8: Address RP events, ie, a player conquering half of a continent, IN THE RP. (Ask, can that player defend all that territory? If not, ask/demand that the player define the position and strength of his/her forces, and then act accordingly.) Don’t let IC RP events spill over into OOC. This will guarantee/scare players from RPing with you in the first place.

9: If you have a tyrant or idiot for an OP, don’t join that RP. You’ll regret it and quit over time anyway.

  11. National project name: National Power Grid

Small description: Link your cities' power grids, allowing shared power-plant use.

Project effect: Cities can share use of their power plants. Best example, 1 nuclear power plant could power upto two cities at infra =< 1000, as opposed to currently needing 2 nuclear power plants, one to power each city. Power need is based on national need, not each city's need, and in process freeing up several infra-slots throughout nation.

    Resource cost: 500 x Steel

    500 x Aluminum

    Cash cost: 2,500,000

  12. The golden egg look upside down. Mind if you rotate it ?

The egg is actually symmetrical, but the vines (and the DRAFT) cause it to look asymmetrical. The vines, because they are not symmetrical, makes the egg look like it's not perfectly shaped, but trust me it is. It does look mush better without the DRAFT.

So are you actually interested in hiring me? I dont want to keep working on it if you're still shopping around for an artist. Hit me back with a private message or trade deal.

  13. Must it be using a Wacom? I can produce a very nice png version with transparent background. Let me know.

Oh, and what about the sparks/shards at the very bottom (surrounding blue gemstone)? Include them? What color are they?

  14. I'll request your services! Your work previously has always been wonderful.

I want in. But... I need a picture of Vorge.

When ready, post here or via private message with basic info like the five denominations desired, any images I should use (dont worry if you dont have any, I have a huge image library I can troll if you tell me what you're looking for), any text (as it'll appear), and any other basic info I should keep in mind while designing. I'll hit you back via private message to confirm and setup payment, then start work on creating something cool for you.

  15. What would be the point?  Without enough Shipyards, Factories and AFB's to house them, you won't be able to buy them anyway.  Sellers will want to make a profit, meaning market weps will cost more than if you just produced em... pointless. See above. Utterly pointless. See above. Maybe not...Constructive enough for you?

    No, but nice try.
