Suggestion for new Military mechanic

I've seen that work cool on MMOs that actually use the distances of a map. How would it work here?

Alex detailed some sort of 'offensive and defensive' troop placement for a future update, where you can allocate a percentage of your troops to attack, and the rest to defend. This was to vary the wars a bit more rather than 100% attack and then when someone attacks you, suddenly all your troops are back home.

 

Maybe this feature could coincide with the future update.
