Let players manually choose their nation's politics views rather than having the policies determine it.

That's fine, except for the fact that policy stances are not saved by the game. Only the end results (social/eco policy scale) are saved. So while the policies are a nice bit of flavour, especially if you don't know exactly where on the scale you'd stand, it's a bit of an inconvenience to deal with if you know what you want your nation to be.

 

A week or so ago I looked into solving the puzzle of which policy combinations result in what places on the spectrum, but because Sheepy sucks, I decided to put it on hold until things get patched.

Policies also effect taxing rates. I think either a manual selection would be ok, or just add more questions and then maintain the answers so others can see how you decided on...either way it would be a logistics nightmare I'm sure.
