  1. Resistance isn't a back-and-forth mechanic. Both sides have a 'resistance' to the enemy, and when your resistance reaches 0, you give up. Your resistance is based on your nation's willingness to keep fighting, and so regardless of the damage you're doing to the opponent, when you're suffering losses on any front, your resistance is reduced.

It's intended to be a race to defeat your opponent, and that's exactly how the mechanics have it set up to be.

So the mechanics say that a defeat on your nation that destroys 5 infrastructure, and comes at the hand of 1 ship, is the demoralizing equivalent of being hit by 250 ships and losing whatever that kills, 800 infra? And your nations willingness to keep fighting will be completely wiped out, even if the enemy has one teeny tiny ship left and you are bombing their cities into dust.

Yep, makes perfect sense. Certainly more rational than a back and forth mechanic, because as we all know, morale is something that only ever moves in one direction and could never be influenced by rousing victories by deployed forces.

  2. i also agree with this point. which is why it is hard to code for realism in this respect. i was merely pointing to the other side of this situation where the game does not model a realistic behavior. i believe the game != realism argument has been had many times on this forum

It certainly has been made many times, mistakenly in my opinion, so I won't rehash it. For the internal logic of the game, it doesn't make sense for a nation with only 2 ships to have any viable path to defeat a fully built nation with everything but ships. Lets say the advantage swing happened towards the end of the round - Phiney and I were both pretty well built, smashing eachother, and then on day 4 Phiney got attacked and wiped clean. It would be fully possible - but ridiculous from the perspective of the games own logic - for him to still be able to beat me by getting "immense triumphs" against me with 2 ships.

Before anyone else offers me advice on how to not lose, thanks, I've got it, I'm not asking for advice.

This is intended - this was the buff to ships. Before no one used ships, these mechanics were intended to shift the meta game to get ships to be used more.

Alex, you can buff ships without making it possible to defeat someone in such a quixotic circumstance. Link ITs to a repair of a certain % or # of resistance points, and then the different weapons will all have a role to fill without allowing someone to have only one weapon and still win.

  3. if we are talking about being rational or realistic one could argue it isn't realistic for someone to be blockaded with several hundred ships and expect to get their airplanes across that front unimpeded to do their airstrikes on tanks/soldiers/ships

Or to have someone with a thousand planes be blockaded by 1 or 2 ships.

I think part of the point of this update was to make all units somewhat viable and have a spot in warfare. Why not just build 1 drydock and 1 ship per city. It's what I did to prevent that.

Sure - there are solutions, but they all also involve the substantial required use of fortify. I think the main point is that it doesn't make sense for two nations of vastly unequal power to have the same potential to demolish their opponents resistance. A solution might be to link the resistances in some way, or to repair resistance with IT attacks on an opponent, something like that.

  4. Realistically, planes should be able to bomb those ships.

Undoubtedly, but he can build ships in 2-3 increments forever... In this scenario, he started out with an advantage that pushed my resistance below his. I'm now comprehensively beating him because the advantage flipped to me, but I'm going to be forced to spend many MAPs on fortifying instead of continuing to dismantle him in detail.

  5. This may not be a bug per se, but I doubt it was a fully intended scenario so lets discuss:

I'm fighting two TEst guys (Phiney and DrKourin). As things stand, both of them have zero or close to zero military of any kind. But because I don't have ships right now, Phiney (with zero troops, zero tanks, zero planes and 1 -3 ships) is fully on his way to defeating me by lowering my resistance.

How is it rational to have one nation with 250k troops, 25k tanks and hundreds of airplanes be defeated by a guy with 2 ships? Why do my ground attacks on him lower his resistance and his ship attacks on me lower my resistance but the two have no effect on each other? If I am completely whipping his ass in the air and on the ground, shouldn't that contribute something positive to my resistance?

  6. Let me put this in perspective for you, because you obviously have no understanding about how the politics in this game works.

Firstly, even if EVERY SINGLE ALLIANCE, came together to in a sphere. It would not be enough to take down Syndisphere. It wouldn't match them in any way shape of form. Not membership, score, or cities. We wouldn't even have the top, mid, an we'd barely have the low tier.

On top of that, we can't pull alliances away from you either. No alliance will sign an outside treaty with someone in the opposite sphere. As for those alliances who maybe want to create their own sphere, you guys have rolled EVERY SINGLE ALLIANCE that dropped a treaty with your sphere. You also just got finished rolling GoT, TC, and Paperless. Why would they leave when its almost certain they'd get rolled?

You guys literally roll anything that moves, I wouldn't be surprised if in a month when TC NAP ends you guys rolled TC + Lordaeron. Because you've taken a "This is our game and we don't give af what everyone thinks of us, come get a dub" FA policy that literally doesn't help the game, nor really you.

Lets take for example, Obelisk and The Commonwealth. 2 Alliances that could literally have went anywhere, chose to ally into OO. Then Consolidate even more by allying each other. Then the Cornerstone-BoC MDP, along with the tTO-BK MDP do the same. Then Rose signed Obelisk with their only MD treaty outside Syndisphere is Lordaeron. I mean, there's nothing anyone outside Syndisphere can do except wait to get rolled.

The saddening thing is Syndisphere's motto has always been "Don't mess with us, we won't mess with you" but then you rolled GoT and Paperless with little to no CB. You're just bored and you're going to roll people until there's no one left to roll. Its a sad thing that this game has came too, but I guess thats what it is.

Even if Acadia, NPO, and UPN got together to do something, they don't even equal TKR in score.

You've lost it. We signed Rose, right after we fought a war against them. We noticed that Pre and his new sphere was claiming the #1 spot and being aggressive where he thought he could get away with it. Deciding to fight him on our terms is not "rolling everything that moves." Newer alliances joining our sphere instead of allying with you? Don't blame us for your FA sucking. Offer them something compelling, like a plan. I don't know how people come up with this feeling that your opponent beating you is unfair. You have the same playing field, you just need to play better.

  7. I'm willing to bet that the British Empires collective IQ is quite high

I'm also guessing that Lordaerons collective IQ is quite low, but don't tell anyone

I like Chola, but they have one nation that is "Imperial Empire du France" - sort of like saying "National Nation." Can't be doing much for their average...

  8. I won't lie, I !@#$ lost it after you posted that picture.  I know what you did!  You googled up Hippo penis then found that image!  I posted it up months back in the same manner, in some other thread, and after that I realized it was a rhino.

Yeah, I googled Hippo dick. I realized it was a rhino before I posted it, but also concluded that I didn't really care.

  9. inb4 Clarke posts to say he's the smartest person, maybe in the whole world.

Also, I know this has been mentioned before, but the name "Mensa HQ" is intended to be ironic. We had a thread asking for everyones IQ years ago, and virtually the entire forum posted numbers from 140 to 200.

  10. It was put in the test server though.

What you're missing is that fortifying allows you to completely destroy an opponent's infra. Otherwise, it's not possible.

So you've two choices, you can either fortify and lose all your infra most definitely, or not fortify, get to beige fairly quickly, limiting your infrastructure lost. Keep in mind air/ships attacks previously did not count towards a beige, now they do. Hell, in many instances, I would be happy if the opponent keeps on fortifying himself. It will cost him a lot more in infra than it would in resources!

I think it opens up opportunities to lay out strategies by such holding out till help can arrive, limiting your infra losses, sacrificing infra for resources, going early into beige for hitting again opportunities, etc etc.

Every game change creates new possible strategies. This is an inevitable side effect, not necessarily a beneficial feature. Its hard for us to ever know which "new strategies" are intended by Alex's updates and which are not, and which will become considered harmful exploits once they are used to substantial effect.

  11. This thread is a mess. Two general principles some Mensa posters should consider adopting:

    1) Sometimes less is more.

    2) Arguing on the Internet is a waste of time.

Others might learn the difference between taking advantage of game mechanics and manipulating the game admin.

  12. A few alliances have more SJW morons than others, not sure about Charming Friends as I haven't really seen them but I suppose they could be the worst snowflakes but they just don't talk publicly about it much. Others probably hold the title for SJW's.

Charming Friends is an interesting case, I wonder how many minority members are in it and what positions they hold.

You seem like a really nice and good person. I hear government agencies are starting to look for people just like you.

As to Rozalia... His ego appears to ride on his self-perceived success arguing with others in a subforum of a subforum of a seriously obscure browser game. That's a low, low starting point from which to claim greatness.
