Correct, and I am one of the players who also believes that, however this is not one of those situations. If we rolled over on every issue a group of players takes up with us, this forum would be a mess and unusable. Rules are rules, and we are often very leniant.

Joking aside, your personal opinion does not alter an empirical tendency of poorly moderated MMOs to fail to reach the critical mass and go under.
And I cannot see for the life of me why posting an ASCII text in a celebration thread makes the community worse. This might be because it is not, but I am open to new arguments other than "it is bad because we say so with our infinite wisdom."
Being an academician who converses with Nobel prize laureates every now and then, I would appreciate an articulate response. But what would I know. After all, random moderators on the internet are more qualified to reach certain verdicts than me.

The rules were made by Sheepy to avoid witch hunting and disrespect. They will not be changed I'm afraid so that's the last question I will answer on this particular topic. I understand that you guys are upset by this whole ordeal but constantly arguing against the mods and disregarding the rules in this community is only going to get all of you eventually banned by the sheer amount of warns.

And if you maintain this mentality, you will only see this community diminish.
When a browser-game does not reach a critical mass, it vanishes without a trace.
It is known to many MMO players that poor moderation lies at the heart of the dissolution of many MMOs, because it destroys community.
I honestly wish that it will not be the case for P&W, but given the substance of the replies and actions in the past few days, I am skeptical.

Because, whilst you may have worded it differently it boils down to you discussing the same issue the last 5 threads had been, and it made more sense to just lock them and wait for a final word from sheepy, which was had.
No, it does not boil down to discussing the same issue. I have raised an argument about what maximizes the growth of the P&W player-base. I have provided arguments as to why the recent act might detract from the growth. It received no reply or instigated no discussion because it was locked.
You thinking it was answered is not the same as it being answered.

Topics are locked when the question has clearly been answered and is now simply being ignored and repeated.
That is obviously not the case regarding my post. It was locked without being read. It was locked to prevent further discussion. The mod locking my thread locked it 3 to 4 minutes after I posted it, citing me and making an incorrect inference. I don't believe he had read it in 3-4 minutes given his comprehension errors.
So why is it not unlocked?

There has been several topics regarding :::CENSORED:::. I cannot write the name of the topic because in that case I would be :::CENSORED::: and this thread would be locked.
I would like to ask our moderation team and our glorious admin why topics in moderation support are locked when they have not received any satisfactory answer.
In some cases, such as the case seen here, the moderator has not even bothered to read the post, and locked the discussion, promising that it would be unlocked when Sheepy was back. Yet it was a lie. It was not unlocked.

I provided a reasonable discussion here. It was locked 4 MINUTES LATER by a mod whose post clearly exhibits that he has not read my post at all. He says things are different here when I never made any references to modding anywhere other than P&W. If this is how you run things, I am pretty depressed about the future of this game's community.
Stuff might be against your rules and bla bla. Yes, we have to respect it. Yes, this is not a democracy.
Tell me then: what does it speak of a moderation team when the said team has to lock topics in the forum section called "Moderation Support" even when you do not have a democracy?
I will leave the answer to that question to the readers.

I would like to share my opinions on using alliance memes in celebration threads and how they are moderated.
The thread in question titled "Politics and War Awards Results for February" is regarding the announcement of awards given in various categories as a result of players voting on the forum. Mensa HQ has won the award "Best alliance of February." The rest of the thread contains comments that can be classified under "friendly banter" and "celebration." Obviously, no real discussion is going on: People just comment on the results, and celebrate if they are the winners. In particular, members of Mensa HQ have copy-pasted the same ASCII text depicting a flag to celebrate their victory.How you define spam depends on the context. According to my interpretation of "common sense" (which is sadly extremely uncommon), copy-pasting an ASCII text once in a celebration thread should be regarded as "contribution" since it is not derailing the thread. If the same ASCII text was posted once by each member on a discussion regarding whether missiles were OP, it would be considered spam. The context matters.How can we interpret copy-pasting the Dio flag? Look at real life: What do sports fans do in a game? They chant. They cheer. They wave flags and wear colors in uniformity. That is how they show their support. That is how they feel the part of a community. That is how they try to impress other groups: by showing that they are united and that they are enjoying themselves. In my opinion, it is much better than flinging insults or arrogantly declaring their supremacy. Creating symbols and replicating them/using them in unison is arguably a very harmless way of creating and fostering the feeling of community.Obviously, the interpretations above are my personal opinions. I think they make sense, but someone else might not. Apparently some moderators had different opinions on how this case should be interpreted. They obviously have the right to make their own judgements. Them being moderators, and us being simple players, in the end what they say is the rule. I currently enjoy playin P&W, but it is essentially very simple. Given the formulas, it wouldn't take me a day to code an offline version of the game in any programming language. This is more or less true for any browser-based game. What makes player enjoy such games are interactions with other players. It is the community.eRepublik which we come from has become a horrible game. Bad moderation, broken systems, and the unlimited pay-to-win made it into a shadow of what it once was. Yet most of us still play it because it created a community of hundreds of thousands at the time. Now it is down to a little more than 10,000 active players. But we still play it, because of the community and the friendships we forged.I also play another browser game which is currently in beta. It is a very complicated game, satisfying even a detail maniac like me. However, there are 5 active players (no typo, five). Obviously, it turned into a single player game for me. I am considering leaving it.Back to our case: P&W is what it is because of its community. If the community gets larger, P&W gets better. If it shrinks, it gets worse.In such a case, if I were Sheepy, I would expect my moderators to act such that they maximize the long-run size of the community. That is only possible by keeping the community happy. Declaring alliance memes in celebration threads as spam, and moderating against it hurts the enjoyment of the community (This is a fact for players in Mensa HQ. I wouldn't know about others, but I think it would be the same). Hence, from this point of view, the moderator actions discussed above have hurt the game.

Since it just requires two consenting adults and some money, prostitution will *always* happen.
If you legalize and regulate it, the prostitutes will have legal rights and protection. It can help in reducing exploitation and spread of diseases.
If you criminalize it, you have no control over prostitution. It will still happen. People will be exploited, and will have nowhere to go to, because their work is illegal. Diseases will spread.
It is really a settled question in most civilized countries. Some are lagging behind because "muh religion".

The average prices in the game are determined between player to player based on how much they all are selling them for, adding an equation to the cost is pointless because the players should be able to choose what they want to buy and sell things for, not an automated system equation.

I am not asking for the addition of an equation. Rather, I am asking a question about some graphs that are being displayed here, and suggesting new graphs to provide more information to the players. Currently we cannot see trade volume, volatility, etc. They can be easily calculated and added as additional options to display there.
It does not affect the current market structure.

Hi Sheepy,
I recently joined your game and I find it quite exciting. I have a question and some suggestions. I see that there are some average price indices being stored by the game. However, I don't know how they are calculated. As an Econ PhD, I would calculate them in the following way:
The last line is a bonus (price volatility). Can you please confirm that the average prices are calculated as I described? If not, can you please also calculate the values I listed above and make it possible to display them as graphs? Having those 4 graphs for each commodity would be wonderful! What would be even more wonderful is an option to be able to see the historical data as a table that can be copy-pasted to spreadsheets rather than a graph.
One last request would be to keep track of lowest sell price, highest buy price, and the range in between divided by the average price (giving us a measure of the spread between buy and sell offers). I hope that's not asking for too much!

Another beautiful thing about the internet in general is that although people do not believe who you are even when you are ready to provide credentials, you are still yourself, and enjoy the full advantages of being yourself. What is more beautiful in this particular case is that you could not answer my direct question in sentence 3, and resorted to use a pseudo ad hominem technique in order to be able to answer my post with a straight face.
To prevent such an answer in the future, I am asking you a direct question: Why do you lock topics on this board when they aren't answered? Why have some moderators promised to unlock said topics when Sheepy returns, and have failed to do so?
Pre-emptive response to the obvious answer: No, my thread was NOT about the recent ruling. The rules regarding the illegality of ASCII images are extremely clear even if the rationale behind eludes me. It was about whether the recent ruling was contributing to the growth and happiness of the existing player-base. That question was not answered.
